- In this BONUS episode of the Suzuki intruder VS1400 Teardown, I demonstrate how to remove the head from the cylinder by ways of manually compressing the cam chain tensioner. No special tools required for the removal of the head BUT you will need to think ahead to ensure you can get everything put back together with the tools you have.

This is the biggest project I have taken on, The bike will be completely stripped down to the frame, the engine will be removed for new piston rings to be installed, the wiring harness is going to be rewired and the entire bike overhauled, ready for spring 2020....I hope.

In the Clymer repair book, they show how to use a modified zip tie to act as a holder. Leaving the tail facing upward for removal after installing the cam chains. Looks kinda crude, but I guess it will work.
Maybe it's a good idea to add Part 19 to the vid's name. It took me a while to find out that this was the follow up of part 18. Love your channel about the Intruder stuff! Cheers!
Thanks for finding this error Tristan, i'll change that for you now :D
Man! You are the MAN! You helped me to figure out why I wasn't able to pull apart the head on my VL800 when I was absolutely lost! While the bolts are a bit different under the cap, the two on the side are the same, and have to be removed in order to seperate. I am not worried about the chain though, I have a magnet wand that I use to reach down in the hole and drag it back up.
Glad I could help! Hope the rebuild goes well for you brother!
@ Well, io broke a bolt putting it back on, so going to have to remove that, and have a broken wire I am going to have to fix, but my own fault
Igot a maruder 800 sukui pulling apart a little ball and sring fell out i cannot see where ot goes thanks
I myself own a 1991 1400 and have found that aftermarket performance products are non existent, no carbs, no cams, no 4130 forged rotating assembly, all I have found is exhaust systems and ignition module which I've done both. So why no aftermarket love for the Intruder 1400? If I'm missing something let me know please. The Intruder is a unappreciated fun riding torque monster that's very low maintenance, except for the buckhorn handlebars what's not to like.
PS I like these videos
I come from riding Harley Evos for 30 years. Now as my last one had a massive engine knock out, I found a 87 intruder with 4000 original miles in stock condition ,perfectly stored since 1990. Harley guys might laugh about this bike, but I think this is a real classic factory chopper, that doesnt need anything. Its fantastic, that there are cool guys around, showing the internals of the intruder. I can imagine, that with decent care and maintenance these bikes will last forever.
I have a cam chain tensioner, and the arm on it wiggles a LOT, is that normal or does it have to be tight?
Best thing to do would be to find me on Facebook and ping me a video of what you need some guidance on my friend :)
@ i actually dont have facebook 😅
