      @@gilfordmoore706 well, the ukulele is the direct descendant of the renaissance guitar, itself a descendant of the lute. Little changed between the renaissance guitar and the modern ukulele. The courses became singles, the frets became fixed, the friction pegs became tuning machines, and it got all the technological improvements that guitars also got in the bracing, neck and bridge and that's about it. The tuning is the same and the technique and sound are similar.

    As a woodworker, I wanted to build a string instrument for a long time. I had hesitated between luth and ukulele, they both looks cool I though. The later is certainly easier to make, and your ukulele playlist which I listen to from time to time is a great evidence that ukulele sounds great. Your greensleeves is perfect.
    So I built my first ukulele during lockdown, and now I'm trying to learn how to make music with it. Not easy, but I'm enjoying it. Still struggling on easy pieces, I went back here to listen at what motivated me. Marvelous. But I think I'll try find an simplified version to learn! :P

  • @lt1caprice57l
    @lt1caprice57l Před 2 lety +3

    The ukulele sounds so amazing with this type of music because it is the most direct descendant of the renaissance guitar of the 1500s - it uses the same tuning, and is similar in size. Key difference is a real renaissance guitar had unison courses for the G - C - E strings and a single A string, a 7 stringed instrument. The RG also had movable gut frets rather than fixed frets as in the ukulele.
    Buy an 8 string tenor, change the octave C to a unison, and remove one of the A strings, and you essentially have a modernized renaissance guitar.

    • @danbluedeer
      @danbluedeer  Před 2 lety +2

    OK this is officially my favorite version of Greensleeves I've ever heard. I learned the ukulele underground version which is absolutely basic although they labeled it intermediate for some reason. I absolutely love the fact you fit in so many techniques, and styles then 'pacabel cannon-ized' the whole thing into your own. Just because I want to play your version really badly, I know it's probably WAY above my skill lol. (I'm sadly a delusional beginner who says "I can totally play that!" - No, really can't. I try though.) If you ever decide to share sheet music with tabs preferably, I'd buy them in a second. Tabs or not. I can probably tab sheet music myself given enough time. (Maybe.)
    Things like this are my idealized version of learning and practicing styles and techniques in a fun way. This past month started doing something sort of similar but since i'm a newbie it's mainly just exploring tones on my new tiny tenor and murdering the original song playing it different ways. Despite all that, it's a blast!
    Anyway, I can't give this enough love. I also need to figure out that little cool sounding walk -up thing before the trills you do and the one near the end. Babbled enough LOL! Consider this a standing ovation in text! 😁
