There's a mod on switch lite to install an oled screen, footage on Taki Udon channel. It's in community tab.
Yeah I was thinking the same. We'll definitely be getting an OLED mod for LCD models switches soon
ait so a drop in LCD to OLED conversion would likely be very hard. LCD draws a lot more power than an OLED and even if you could plug it in, you'll likely damage the OLED, and the display controller would also be unlikely to handle it. you'd need to either desolder the chip or use some sort of tag-on flex to compensate for the differences.

Nah, if the connector pins are in same number, it would work with soldering. And oleds in general at peak brightness use more power because they are efficient and can be run without damage.
@@drushed7387 that's considering the pins are wired the same way, and an LCD is controlled differently than an OLED. LCD has a backlight, with OLED; each pixel dims individually. so no, that wouldn't work in 99% of cases.
@@Nurf it works in 99% of the case, if you don't know, there are literally industry standards and protocols for displays. They explain how to wire a display, how to send it specific signals, how are they arranged in order. Also there are specific number of pins used for a range of display resolution, 1080p and 720p use the same number of pins, you can literally change the display between any of these and would just need to update drivers. All of these things are open source. It doesn't matter if a display has oled or lcd. When connected from a source it has another controller that turns the given signal to required image, the same board has all the power management circuitry... Oled just uses it directly while lcd uses the power to light up the backlight.
That's how there are 100s of off brand screen replacement for phones which are not original quality oled or are lcd but still used in oled phones, some Chinese modders add oled in lcd phones or laptops. It's actually super easy to get a oled display on laptop. 99.9% of the time you can get it by just searching for the screen size and number of pins/ connector

That is the touchscreen connector. The LCD connector sits underneath the game card slot.
I was also going to mention even if that was the case what's stopping him from changing the slot out and soldering the one, he wants in. it's been done with other consoles. I don't really see why this would be an exception.

Wanna know the funniest part? The Switch Lite actually can be upgraded to OLED since there's third party OLED screens made for it, or they're upcoming, I don't remember
Switch Lite OLED makes more sense than the full size Switch OLED, since the major advantage of OLED screen is battery saving.
There is an upgrade kit for the switch Lite though. It's pretty sick.
I really wish they could make the same for the regular one. Sure, I could sell my switch and buy an OLED, but that's incredibly stupid and wasteful compared to just swapping a component. Probably hard to find a compatible panel though :/

@@altonb.1396 given how many breaks in compatibility there have been over time, how their for-free compatibility has been entirely down to the fact that most of these compatible systems share very similar specifications, and that their cross-architectural compatibility "efforts" have been lazy, low quality and designed to maximize profits at minimal cost for them, yes, I would say so. It's entirely possible that the Switch successor will be backwards compatible, and it's entirely possible that it won't be - the could break it as easily as by changing the shape of the cart slot. Until there is some degree of confirmation, I see no reason to trust that they wouldn't try to squeeze us into buying our games again for the new platform.
The cable you showed in the switch is actually for the Digitizer. The LCD connector is on the main board and is actually similar in size.

Not surprising they're completely different boards. The Steam Deck has the same issue when you try to upgrade the screen to OLED. While yes OLED is more efficient it actually uses more power when at max brightness with full screen usage, and thus requires different power circuitry to function.

You're wrong. You can't replace the LCD screen with the OLED from the OLED Switch. You can buy a previously prepared OLED screen to put on the V1, V2 or Lite Switch
The reason why the insides are so much different is because the OLED has a bunch of stuff making sure you can't mod it the LCD is fairly easy apparently

I once bought a backbone controller that connects to a phone. It was a ps4 colored style controller. I liked that version far better than the Xbox black version. But for some reason, the ps4 version is only for the iPhone (Lightning cable USB), and the Xbox is only for Android (USB type C). Is it possible to remove the lightning cable and put a USB type C there?

Unrelated, my Nintendo switch got left on top of my car (in my basic case) and flew off when I went uphill at 35mph, and it bounced off the pavement and onto the sidewalk, some fucking how, it survived with no issues (no game cards broken either). Nintendo knows how to make a durable product. (Or the basic case was too strong)
