Dr Stefani Kappel says research shows these supplements do improve the skin as long as you're doing something to stimulate collagen production, such as using tretinoin. She seemed to mean that if you're not doing anything to actively stimulate collagen then the collagen peptides won't get to where they need to be. This may of course be wrong, but how is the average person supposed to know which info to believe?
I’d take the hundreds of testimonies of people who say it’s worked for them all by itself in a comments section before listening to a doctor that claims it only works with a specific product their field benefits from.
I think generally we need to remember "supplement" means "in addition to a healthy regimen." They help, but they aren't the sole reason people are healthy. You can't take a pill that makes you a marathon runner, for example. For skincare, you have both dermatological interventions and lifestyle changes that complement them. I hope that helps.
I feel like there's some degree of truth to this. Another doctor on YT was talking about a research that concluded something similar. She said that the collagen you ingest doesn't exactly get deposited into your skin but rather it signals the skin to form more collagen of its own. So it makes sense why ingredients like retinol and vitamin c might help facilitate that process.
