@@fyrelite07 got to experience it on a hot day with full trains. My god. The Quad-down is *mental.* You just keep picking up speed, and with each hill, it feels like it's trying to rip itself off of the hillside. I've never felt a coaster treat me like this lmfao
So sad to read that but glad you got one last great ride in!! I know how you feel, had a disc replacement back in 2009 which sucked and didn't help in some ways worse pain now!! Would not recommend if it can be avoided. Anyway two years later I was able to still ride nice smooth decent steel coasters without issues, depending on the seating and restraint type etc, had found that hanging ones like the Batman and similar ones like at Worlds of Fun in Kansas city were very comfortable!! I’m a wood coaster hobbyist & it’s so rare to hear anything negative anymore about steel coasters in general. You are correct! I enjoy many steel coasters but they largely lack personality & soul. B&M coasters started feeling all the same long ago. Same with RMC, they have some fantastic features & ride amazing, but they’re generally the same gimmicks one to the next. They’re too perfect & overly-engineered. I can look at any steel coaster before my first ride & tell you exactly what it’ll feel like from start to finish. Predictable. And yes, record speed, height, inversions & new technology has only meant problems and downtime. Lightning Rod in this video is a prime example, it’s spent much of its life not operating because of the technical complexity of its launch. It’s getting a new, simpler lift hill this year. It’s also not a wood coaster anymore since about half of the wood track was replaced with steel track not long ago. Still a great ride! Sorry so long, you got me riled up!
@@kameeI the launch is unreliable and causes the coaster to be closed quite frequently. (not as profitable) But at least the chainlift is going to be high speed (according to sources)
Plan your day well. get there early! Dollywood has a very confusing lay-out, and sometimes you can spend an hour just trying to find your ride; then hours waiting on line. But some truly great rides.
That's gotta be the most unique launch experience ever. Not just the fact that you go uphill while accelerating, but that you're already starting to floor it before going up the hill; that's gotta be a weird positive G moment.
they switched it from a wood coaster to a ibox track coaster, so its technically not considered a wooden coaster anymore, but it is still one of my favorite rmc's at my home park, dollywood!
Lightning Rod _is_ fun, but I go mainly for Thunderhead, one of the greatest wood coasters in the country. I recently completed all wood coasters in the U.S. & many in Europe & Asia and 32 defunct woodies since 1981. Thunderhead is one of the best, but it’s fresh off of a total re-tracking & used to be uncomfortably rough.
@@crooked-halo I haven't been on nearly as many coasters as you have, but I knew Thunderhead was great midway through my first ride. There isn't more than 20 feet of straight on the whole thing. Riders really get the feeling of being spun and twisted and thrown around like Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz.
@@crooked-halo My rides on a partially retracked Thunderhead in June 2022 were amazing. I love GCI coasters but that one, holy crap. Thunderhead is my favorite wooden coaster by far. It's truly incredible.
That was a fun ride! This is the closest I'll ever be on one, sitting here watching! And my stomach still churns when I watch these! Wow, but what FUN!😬😲😂😜🎃👻👻👻😊😳
from what I've seen in some reviews, it runs through the course juust about the same as before, just minus the awesome experience of the launch. Have fun!
The airtime on that must be insane
I’ve been on it before, I can confirm even early in the day that the airtime on the quad-down is absolutely insane!
It really is. It's as tasty as the cinnamon bread around the corner.

The back is the best tho on any coaster imho
LIGHTNING Rod!!! DollyWood - Pigeon Forge, TN👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I love pigeon Forge
Only idiots go here. Charging people 30 dollars to park to go inside and spend more money. All of their rides suck especially this one
Looks amazing
Awesome and smooth had the old ones feel like thing is going to come apart so much weight and pressure .
That quad down section at the end is really legendary
I would love to ride that one. So much fun.❤
DollyWood, Lightning Rod is a crazy RMC with it’s awesome triple down (I think)
