    I worked on Musicology as an Engineer in Los Angeles at Pacifique. The Marrying Kind, If Eye was the Man in Your Life, and On The Couch were all recorded as 1 song on the same tape. They were only split up with song ID's for the CD. We did receive 2" Master tapes flown in from Minneapolis and one of those was from the late 90's (97 or 98) so it probably was A Million Days. It was a really amazing time, I worked on that a few months and have so many memories and stories. United States of Division was great, he spent a lot of time on that. I saw the tour and a lot of great intimate shows during that time

    In the early 2000's I was slaving away at a Cafe I helped create but my boss was taking advantage of me at. His brother came in from Michigan to work there too and his brother was a big Prince fan. He had told me all about the Musicology album and he played it for me. So on those nights I was left slaving alone I used to kill that album playing it over and over as well as The Exodus.

    The last time I saw Prince live was during the Musicology Tour. He and the NPG tore the roof off of the Toyota Center! And, yes…I was still a member of the NPGMC, so I had a REALLY good seat close to the stage.

    I saw the Reno warmup show of this tour and didn’t know where my seats were until I picked them up at will call. It was my first time getting front row tickets! My seats were right next to John Blackwell’s setup. The tickets bus NPGMC were only $77 each. It’s an incredible memory.

    The first Prince album I listened to. I was 7 years old, I heard “Call My Name” on the radio. I asked my pops who was that person with the high voice, and he told me about Prince. From that moment I’ve been hooked. Everything from my style and the music I listen to, has been inspired by Prince in someway. Hell, I even play guitar, drums and piano because of him. This video was great! Peace and be wild💜

    Yes, attended the tour June 25 Rosemont Horizon, amazing energy, I love that the excitment & promo around this record felt similiar to the kind of excitement for P in the mid 80s.. that's how it felt to me, P reminding the world of what all of us already knew, he was the greatest.

    "Musicology" is special to me because it was the one and only time I saw Prince live on tour. I got the album (cd) free with the ticket. My favorite track is the title track but I also like "Illusion, Coma, Pimp And Circumstance," "Call My Name" and "On The Couch."💜

    While RAVE UN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC will always have a special place in my heart, as it came out when I met my wife, I love MUSICOLOGY. A MILLION DAYS helped me a lot when I was in the hospital in 2014 because I could only see Laura (my wife) A couple of hours a day in that period. CINNAMON GIRL is another of my all-time favorite tracks on the album. It calms our cat Jadis when she's nervous.

    One of the best times to have ever been a Prince fan. From Grammy’s 2004 to Grammy’s 2005, Prince was all over the place and I missed that so much. Musicology the album was so dope! I played it on a regular basis, even when I was in the military in Iraq. Seeing Prince on the cover of Entertainment Weekly & Rolling Stone was incredible & rewarding but the tour, maaaaaannnnnn that tour was something special to behold. I saw him do 2 shows in L.A., a show in NYC & an after show at the House of Blues in L.A. The only thing that I wish happened was Prince having a song all over the radio here in the states. We were cheated out of that but it didn’t take away from how incredible 2004 was. We as Prince fans were fed GOOD that year and it’s a year I’ll never forget!

    I had kind of stopped paying close attention after in my opinion the sub-par Emancipation and Jam Of The Year Tour but came back onboard for this album and tour. I saw him at the Club Black aftershow in NYC the night he got inducted into the RRHOF and then saw 3 Musicology shows which were all amazing, especially the solo acoustic section in the middle of each show. I was lucky enough to see him 5 more times before he passed, all bangers.

    Great series! Please continue them!
    Unfortunately for me this was just another album he released after 2000 that didn't hold my attention...
    I was a huge fan and collector for al long time until the release of Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, that was the moment for me when he started to release music that was not exicting enough for me anymore. Maybe by that time my music taste started to differ, I don't know. Anyone else recognizes this?

    • @jonzaremba
      @jonzaremba Před rokem

      I feel exactly the same way. Prince always had an edge. And he lost it when all of his music became G-rated. It's difficult to remain so sexually charged when someone reaches middle age, but there are other ways to be edgy. I think he kept an edge with The Rainbow Children, just by being controversial and keeping things heavy. But that was the last album for me.

  • @ericcampbell6370
    @ericcampbell6370 Před rokem +3

    I thought that Musicology was okay but I don't listen to it much. It veers towards the mainstream without the inventiveness of his hit making past.
    I recall critics proclaiming it to be his best work since who knows when. Personally, I was more interested in The Rainbow Children and N.E.W.S. and felt that he'd been doing great work all along. The masses just weren't paying attention.
    I think that this album's warmer reception had everything to do with the timing. He had just been inducted into the RRHOF and had also made a high profile appearance at the Grammys. It reminded some of the more casual listeners that Prince was still a viable entity.
    The most memorable moment for me was Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance.

    Musicology 2004ever! I remember dancing on the floor of Madison Square Garden in New York City soaking up all of His Royal Badness’ Purple Majesty. After everything that Prince had gone through it was a triumphant return to arenas that turned out to be Prince’s 2nd biggest tour in the US after Purple Rain. The NPGMUSIC CLUB presale setup for tickets was fantastic and incredibly convenient for fans. Get a copy of the album with your ticket? Genius! Such a magnificent time. P.S. Silver Tongue is a fantastic virtual B-side. One of my favorites. A personal classic. I absolutely love both Prince’s version and Nikki Costa’s. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

    I had a similar experience to your Metal Works sessions. In 98 my friend asked me to go with him to Paris to help him co produce and mix an album for French Hip Hop group KDD. The studio we went to was Studio Davout. So after we finish and come back to NYC, I pick up Crystal Ball. Low and behold besides Paisley Park, Studio Davout is listed as where some of the stuff was recorded

    One interesting Reno item from the tour. Prince opened it here and rehearsed in the arena on the UNR campus (where it took place) for a week. One night after rehearsals, he went back to his hotel (the Grand Sierra Resort) and had a late-night jam on soul and rock songs with the band that played the late shift there. Pretty wild!

    Salute to @the violet reality. I really enjoyed the Musicology album. Musicology, Call My Name, A Million Days, and What Do U Want Me 2 Do is some of my favorites off the album. It's definitely one of my favorite post Warner era released albums. I did attend the Musicology Tour in 2004 also. It's my one and only time that I got to see Prince live and it was worth it. I love it. I like this era because although 2004 meant so much to us as fan with it being the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain and Prince getting honored into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. This still was about Musicology, school's in. He was definitely one of my highlights in 2004. He made a strong statement thru out the year, which was simple: I'm still that dude.😎Musicology4Ever💜
