The Artist wrote many classic songs, but he also wrote songs for other artists like The Bangles, No Doubt, Cyndi Lauper and Sinead O'Connor. Prince definitely had more talent than he knew what to do with and it's showcased in songs like Nothing Compares 2 U, Manic Monday and many more.
For this list, we’re focusing on musical numbers that Prince wrote but became bigger hits by other artists. While he did play background instruments on some of the following tracks, the primary vocals were delivered by fellow pop singers.

Prince wasnt that a great producer. He was a great musician and music creator.
But lots of his tunes could be covered for better renditions.
You cannot do that with mj tunes which were greatly produced and arranged.

@Honesty First So yes... and no. Prince knew how to record as good as anyone else, and he would prep 'demos' that were very good quality. but he also hired the best producers and recording engineers in the business. check out some interviews with Sylvia Massey and others who worked with him. yeah, he knew his shit. yeah, he'd tell them exactly what he wanted and what recording techniques and gear to use most of the time. but he did still hire the best to do it. recording yourself is extremely tedious. recording others is genuinely fun. being recorded is reasonably fun. yes, he was able to record himself, and sometimes did... but usually he'd call in some help. it's just a lot to do.

People laughed at me when I said he was an even bigger genius than Mozart. I told them that Mozart didn't play as many instruments as Prince. Prince played every instrument on one of his albums. Prince could play guitar, piano, saxophone, bass, flute and drums and he played them all very well but he was probably best on the guitar. Prince also had a wonderful voice of multiple octaves, pretty rare. He also wrote thousands of songs, most are in a vault and may never be heard by the public. Motzart was great but I think Prince was greater, I wonder if Mozart could dance like Prince. Heh.

    • @johnslade7540
      @johnslade7540 Před 7 lety +17

It's not JUST the number of instruments but the fact that he played them well enough to make hit songs. He played all the instruments on one of his albums and it was great. Dancing is a great thing and he did it well. You can see what great dancing is when you look at James Brown. Prince had many talents and a great voice too. But his mental genius is what made him truly great, he wrote thousands of songs, many that may never see the light of day.

As it is with most musical/artistic geniuses, he left us way too early. I have always held the theory that the depth of feeling it takes to create true genius oftentimes is too overwhelming. Exceptional artists feel more deeply, live inside their heads, use their pain, loneliness, loss, fear, to create beautiful art, but that same beauty is a poison which over time takes them from us.

Anyone else find it annoying when Watchmojo pronounces Celine Dion's name like that?

    • @WulfKatt

She is French Canadian and he is attempting to pronounce it in the way it is meant to be pronounced. I sincerely appreciate the effort. I have a French name and it does matter when someone is courteous and at least attempts to pronounce my name correctly. In the US, people tend to not really try (this is my experience growing up here). And even make fun of people for trying and of people with accents trying to pronounce American names. Why is that a thing? When people like me have listened to my name butchered all these years...we appreciate people like this guy. I make every effort to pronounce a person's name in their native tongue (even if i fail) out of respect. Folks can dismiss him all they like for being pretentious. I've been called pretentious for HAVING A FRENCH NAME. Rather silly, honestly.
Here are the 2 different accents: French (France) and French (Canada). forvo.com/word/c%C3%A9line_dion/

I don't mind that he's trying to use the French phonics but he's way off base 😂 it sounds
like "Seh-lin Zi-ohw" when it should be more like "Se-leen Dee-ohn"

Super Bowl 2022 required multiple singers to carry a halftime show. Prince was a solo act.

Prince wrote “nothing compares 2 u” for chris Cornell. He just didn’t know it at the time. If you haven’t heard that I suggest you do so immediately!!!!! Now chris can sing it for him all the time. R.I.P. to the greats.

I'd be honored if some Prince fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of PURPLE RAIN and DIAMONDS & PEARLS on my YT channel in tribute to the greatest songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist of all time. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and RESPECT to the genius of Prince.

He wrote “shhh” for Tevin Campbell and that is my favorite! When Prince sung it himself he leveled it up even more! Both sung it beautifully!
