I am so glad I didn't opt for an ECM motor on my new installation. Over a decade and no issue, so far. The standard induction motor is proven technology and is not over complicated. There is nothing efficient about a machine with a higher failure rate of more expensive components. Keep it simple, keep it reliable.
The government doesn't care about reliability 🤷♂️
Cut and dry, good job as always. Seems like those ecm modules have more trouble than the regular motors, but changing the module is so much easier to change instead of the whole motor. I guess it's six one way, half a dozen the other. The old one from '99, wow, going on 25 years old, still running. To me that is not much short of a miracle. Why would someone put the wrong refrigerant in it? That is just plain stupid. I know it's expensive, but a working unit is worth it to me.
The safety is working like a champ on the new unit.relief OMW.
Great work curtis 👍
Thanks 👍
Where is your new dog Raleigh ?
Another great job Curtis. I learn something almost every time. Thanks for taking us along!
My pleasure
Nice job 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Looks like some DIY satellite dish install right there, 1:16 - 1:18. :)
Ratchet type crimper is so much easier, they release when crimped.
Nice work Curtis.
Good video Curtis 👍 Au
Thanks 👍
Merry Christmas Curtis and Riley take care...
HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL FAMILY AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. 👍👍👍😃😃😃😃
Have a wonderful Christmas in your new digs Curtis, and may the New Year bring you and your family health and happiness.👍👍🇨🇦
Good stuff
I can't help but notice you've been replacing quite a lot of those motor modules, and often those units are fairly new.
It would be interesting to investigate further as to the cause of these failures. That's probably not your area of expertise, but one would think the manufacturers would want to know exactly why there are so many warranty claims for motor controllers (especially the Accounting Department). Poorly-rated components running on the razor's edge of tolerances? Moisture ingress? Crap circuit engineering?
Merry Christmas from Connecticut! We'll be sitting comfortably in the 50s during the day, and upper 30s at night, rain showers on the 26th and 27th, so no White Christmas this year.
Man I agree, that unit is only 3 years old. Seems like quality today is just not there.
usually either power surges or moisture takes them out
Without taking one of those units apart, I guess It's properly either one of the chips or bad caps. I bet it's the caps
Can the module be repaired
Nice work in my opinion if it’s under warranty I recommend replacing both just to make sure 👍🏼 doesn’t have a problem.😊
I tend to agree, but isn't that the beauty of it, to be able to just change the module?
Great video! When ohming out the windings to each other on that ecm motor what is max difference in resistance allowed on those motors and three phase motors in general?
Are you using the gentec evergreen any? I'm having good luck so far but I haven't replaced too many. Most x13 have been under warranty. I'm seeing r410a mixed in with r22. I think they are doing it on purpose to simulate a bad compressor..
Didn't see what you were testing when you omed out the motor
Which Veto Pac do you use? Thinking about finally getting one.
Hi bro from west Alabama merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
@@HVACGUY are u ok
@@jamierushingall is well.
@@HVACGUY ok cool
Seems to me as ECM MOTORS ARE PURE JUNK, IVE SURE SEEMS LIKE YOU CHANGE LOTS OF THEM EVEN ON NEWER EQUIPMENT.
ANOTHER WONDERFUL IDEA TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT.
Do we need to replace the filter drier if someone puts in the wrong refrigerant? I would assume we blow the system out with nitrogen before pulling a vacuum.
I don't really understand how someone could do that, but I am still learning trade. Maybe they were just in a hurry and distracted.
I would. Who knows what else is in the system?
Many believe they can top them off with that MO99. I don't think that is good practice.
I recall you mentioning that those Modules were not available ??
Depends on the manufacturer
@@HVACGUY OK, TNX...
Great Video! Are you planning to purge and refill the R-12 unit? Hard for me to hear today...😊
No. It’s not worth it.
@@HVACGUYThanks, I forgot about the cost💰 I enjoyed the Video
You meant r22 I'm sure. Why someone mixed those refrigerants beats me.@@hinspect
@@jthonnMy mistake, just got home from the Hospital and was watching Curtis on my TV instead of a cell phone, I did mean R-22
Oh I know and didn't mean any disrespect. I hope it wasn't too serious and you get well soon. I know first hand, I battled with cancer, so far I'm good. I was in restaurant for years, and they did use r-12 many years ago. They came out with R-22 because it was better for the environment, sound familiar?@@hinspect
Be careful pulling those 24volt wires off the contactor with power energized. You touch the wire to line in a blink of the eye the board is fried.
Nothing Beats a RUUD ? 🤔 This Unit is from 2020 but the $ 64,000 question is which Module was used in this Blower Motor Fan ? Disappointing Failure. 🤪👎
Personally I don’t like heat pumps give me a gas fired furnace or oil fired I’ll be good every day! But it’s a good skill to learn…only 3 minutes in between the ecm motor is bad, they always go bad Who puts a whip in front of an access panel like that 🤦♂️
Intermittent fasting is a good thing, "we" eat too much too often.
I feel a lot gooder.
Yep and a lot more better.
Another ECM control head bites the dust. Expensive and very susceptible to surges. I despise those things.
Man dont you just love how people ran their high volt in front of a panel you need to 5o removed instead of routing the high volt nice and neatly away from any panels.
