- Ina Garten is here to remind you that this Thanksgiving, store-bought is just fine. To make the holiday easier for home cooks, we asked the culinary contessa to create a menu that lets premade ingredients do much of the work. Follow along at Ina’s East Hampton home as she shows us the new recipes she came up with: Parmesan Mashed Potatoes, Chunky Cranberry Sauce, Mushroom and Gruyère Bread Pudding, Make-Ahead Roast Turkey and Gravy With Onions and Sage, Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie, and - of course - Cranberry Martinis.

About NYT Cooking:
All the food that’s fit to eat (yes, it’s an official New York Times production). - Jak na to + styl
There's something about this video not only showcasing Ina, but also the staff working behind the scenes and Ina's interaction with them. This video could've easily just been Ina prepping dishes and table settings, but this warm and easygoing atmosphere albeit at work mimics what people want to achieve during Thanksgiving with their families. NYT Cooking made a really good decision here!
she's so nice and profesh!
NYT if so good at storytelling!💗
Yeah it shows you that you can't make her Thanksgiving dinner without a crew of 20 people, lol...
NYT Cooking made a terrible decision when they decided to charge for access to the recipes. The NYT all the recipes you can pay for. On Thanksgiving!
@@sharonthompson816 They always charge for their articles and recipes and I subscribed to both, it's like $4 a month and worth it. You can't expect all the content in the world to be free.
There's just something about Ina. She is so charismatic and warm. It makes me want to cook absolutely everything she talks about.
“it’s the sides everyone loves” and that’s on period
the queen has given us permission to buy storebought 😂🥰 fantastic video. I love her so much.
Ina Garten. National treasure.
The semi-homemade barefoot contessa spiritual mashup I never knew I needed ❤
Yup! ❤😊
I thought the exact same thing! Sandra Lee never got enough credit.
I was waiting for Sandra Lee to jump out of the pantry. LOL
My Mom has forever been considered the best cook in the family. Truth be told all of her siblings and a few of the grandchildren are all amazing cooks. My Mom’s secret, keep it simple. Homemade mashed potatoes, Pepperidge farm dressing with fresh ingredients thrown in, homemade pie (store bought crust) bakery rolls, fresh vegetable. The key is using quality ingredients not just choosing the cheapest. Ina is the queen and if she AND my mom agree then that’s what I’m doing ❤️.
You are in that small cult of cooks who know how to make great food but not destroy themselves in the kitchen making every single thing from scratch
“Storebought’ll do just fine” 💖
"I'm 'one-take Garten'." Love it!
I love Ina. I swear she never ages. God bless her.
Ina is the best! I remember when I was newly married and preparing to cook my first Thanksgiving dinner, my mom wrote down all my favorite recipes and a sheet of instructions, including what things I should buy from the store to make life easier. The best piece of advice I can pass on that I learned from my mom is to make as much ahead of time as possible, so I make the stuffing, mashed potatoes, pie crust and filling (separately, then I bake it in the morning before the turkey goes in), etc. all the day before. While the turkey is resting, I put the stuffing and mashed potatoes in the oven to reheat, bake the biscuits and make a salad and violá! Dinner is served. Happy Thanksgiving!
I think I'll do the same, thanks. 👨🍳
This woman is timeless
Ina had her drink right away….lol 😂
Thank you for this video. I am laid up this year from rotator cuff surgery so our entire meal will be store-bought, with the exception of my husband’s smoked turkey. Looking forward to relaxing and having someone else do the prepping. have a wonderful thanksgiving, everyone!
I remember watching Ina on food network with my mom when I was a toddler, I loved watched her cook and bake. Such a core memory
This was very relaxing and lovely to watch. Thanks for the good vibes.
Although I'm in Canada and already had thanksgiving in October, it's still good to know not EVERYTHING needs to be from scratch! Especially since I'm not much of a baker, and neither is my partner, we have NO ISSUES getting store-bought pie crust or rolls! Especially when I'm in grad school right now and don't have much time to fuss around with large meals. Yay for simplicity!
I actually love the Bob Evans mashed potatoes for a quick dinner side, but for Thanksgiving steam and mash is where it’s at. It’s in the freezer section and it’s potato cubes that you steam in the bag. Can you literally put them in a bowl and mash them and mix in your favorite stuff and it comes out just like fresh mashed. It’s so easy and it really does taste like you made them from scratch, it’s all the work out and leaves you just a fun bit of seasoning and perfecting what you like in them at the end! The only downside is the bags aren’t very big so if you’re serving a crowd you’re going to have to buy two or three bags. Still it’s our go to the mashed potatoes or if we’re craving real homemade tasting mashed potatoes.
Or you can just boil potatoes and make your own, fresh for less.
Omg. That is THE BEST tip! Thank you!!!!!
@@MrCallDesigns you know with water and potatoes you can get a similar type of mashed potato right? just put the potatoes in water
I love Ina. Yes we love watching Ina cook involved recipes but store bought options are always a reality. Thanks for keeping it real Ina.
How can you not love this woman?
i will be on my own for the holiday, and i have embraced it by deciding to basically have everything simple from a box. instant potatoes (Idahoan is great), stove top dressing, store bought pie and hawaiian rolls. All i have to do is cook the turkey breast, which wont take much.
Check out some of the recipes for slow-cooker turkey breast. So much less to deal with than doing it in the oven.
One of my favorite thanksgiving's was a warm and rowdy Friendsgiving with co-workers after we did the store prep for Black Friday. We popped into a 24 hour market after shift and grabbed a rotisserie chicken, premade mash etc. Took a nap on the floor of my Apartment then served out food and made stuffing while drinking and watching Die Hard😂
frozen mashed potatoes are way better than instant.
@@lynnscott9657 That depends on what gastrointestinal issues you may have.
You should get Bob Evans mashed potatoes. The instant ones are OK but they’re not the best. And get a rotisserie chicken instead of a turkey.
Ina is EVERYTHING
If Ina thinks of herself as "not a confident cook " there is hope for us all. We are all probably much better than we give ourselves credit for.
This is such a refreshing concept and wonderful reminder to make it easier on yourself to actually enjoy and be present. Us perfectionists need to hear it from someone else!❤
Love her. Always great recipes and down to earth attitude. Beautiful simple table.
Casseroles are the perfect place to use store bought ingredients because the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
I love this! I love buying some products that are already made and some fresh and mix them. sometimes I just dont want to cook everything and doctoring some store bought items is an easy way to do it. Ill also cook it differently. Like most items will say microwave which is the main culprit of ruining food so taking those mashed potatoes and just stove top cooking them instead of microwaving will make it taste better and its still easier because you didnt have to wash, peel, dice, boil, drain, and mash them first. I love that chefs like Ina are sharing that because not a store bought items are terrible. its just how you use it.
I love her so much, she speaks so honestly about being a home cook. I’ll definitely be taking inspiration from this for the holidays ❤
I love Ina! And her saying she's not a confident cook 🤯 shes amazing
This is great! A good reminder to not stress over everything being perfectly handmade. For people like me who work long hours but love to cook, this is a great video. ^^
Ina is a legend! I love her!
" I'm one-take Garten" is the best line in the whole video. What an ad lib!
I love you Ina. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
Thank you, all the Thanksgiving tips no one knows how to put a table together like you. Ina Garten 🏡🦃🥰
All hail the queen
Such a humble and gracious lady. 🙏🏻💜
This is how my grandma has alway done thanksgiving. Stove top stuffing, pre maid pie crust is all in how you put it together!
Everything looks so amazing!! 😋😍
I have been doing the mash potato thing for years. Thanks for letting me know it is actually Ina approved. What a relief!
I love her!! She’s so real
One of my Fav. chef!
Whenever I need to feel comforted, I turn to Ina Garten. I just love her. 💗💗💗💗💗💗
sandra lee is shaking rn
Miss Ina is coming for her gig!
If you don't have butter infused with the tears of virgin Dutch milkmaids, store-bought is fine. 😂
I’ve always loved Ina!!! Been watching her since I learned how to cook😍
As long as it tastes good, that’s all that matters😊
Thank you for all the Thanksgiving tips.
Love all your videos Ina Garton. 🥰🦃
This year for Thanksgiving, we're doing Chinese takeout. I'm super excited. Super excited!
Did she really just say "I'm really not a confident cook"? Crap, where does that leave the rest of us?!? 😂
Love you so much. Have all your cookbooks. Love you 😍
I love Ina!!
The idea that homemade is always vastly better than store bought is a few decades out of date. Food science has made tremendous improvements in recent years, and now store bought mass produced items are in many cases just as good as what the home cook can realistically make, or better. Frozen vegetables are often the freshest you can get. There needs to be a wider embrace of store bought products, instead of insisting that you just HAVE to make your own stock and whatnot.
“One take Garten.” Gotta love her!
I just love Ina ❤
Mrs. Garten
Happy holidays to you & Mr. Jeffrey🫶🏿!
I have watched you through the decades Lady Looking Good.
All the Best to You and Yours.
Wayne

Ina is the greatest ❤
For large gatherings: set the table the day before without the glasses. Cover with clean table clothes overnight. Set out glasses the next day. Saves so much time.
I love her!
I love Ina ‼️❤️💯
I just love Ina. That's all.
Definitely sides are the best!
Love Ina
The Queen.
“When you can buy something out of the store, there’s no need to make it at home” that’s my sister’s philosophy too.
Your outfit is so, so pretty!!
Love Ina ❤❤
That house is to die for
Happy thanksgiving
I love Ina
I still love your bbq sauce!!!
Great video! Your bread pudding is Southern dressing. No need to change the name! ;).
Love you Ina❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Those orange couches are so beautiful
She’s a gift from god ❤
The QUEEN has spoken!
Thank you so much l love your recipes Happy thanksgiving 🍁 🥰🍸🍸🍸🍸❤️💫💫💫
That's Mother right there
Tbh going back to the early barefoot contessa shows she’s always said make two, buy the third when it comes to courses.
Ina said, the size that everybody loves 😂😅 everybody agrees with that! 🎉
Thank you so much for this. Like in the great novel "Like Water for Chocolate," the cook's mood/emotions definitely are felt in the food. Was the cook anxious? Bitter? Then the food will taste anxious and bitter. Is the cook in love and relaxed? The guests and family will know. Happy Thanksgiving!
Sandra Lee but good lol
Those Bob Evans mashed potatoes are actually good
“And nobody will know” unless they watch this ! then everyone will know 😂😂😂
It’s ok even if YES everyone knows. You’re the host or hostess. You did the planning, shopping, garnishing, heating or chilling and presenting. Your work, your party, your effort for your guests! 👏
I love her
Delicious
Garten is hilarious. People have already been doing this since the 70’s. My mother used to call it “doctoring” or a “doctored” this or that. Adding quality bits to an already prepared product elevates it all. One year I took 4 wild rice pre par cooked packets mixed it with a bag 3 bags of seasoned stuffing, chopped 3 cans tinned chestnuts, sautéed celery & onions, olive oil, some orange zest some pumpkin pie spice garlic salt , chopped parsley, cracked pepper, chicken stock and threw in the whole thing of some precooked bacon chopped up. And BAM. People thought I slaved over it all. The hardest part was the sauté of the veg. It was that easy literally mixing the entire thing in the same baking dish.
