Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer: Testing the Wind Deflector

  • Having experienced lots of buffeting on the Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer and especially strong wind noise on audio recordings, it was time to try a cheap wind deflector to see, hear and feel what difference it makes.
A motorcycle ride out to Scarborough and down the east coast to Bridlington before going across the Yorkshire wolds.
Lowering the seat to a low position has improved the ride quality as well.

I ditched the stock screen & Chinese deflector (it did help) in favour of a WRS screen slightly wider, slightly taller. This week I’ll be adding Puig upper front wind deflectors (you’ll need to hold your nerve when buying them and probably a stiff whisky), they improve things apparently (22 GT Pro).
Have to ask have you experienced any unexpected stalling (sporadically) when moving off?

      Thanks Andrew.
I did look at expensive options screens but thought that for £15 I'll try that first, and keep the sock screen.
I don't have any issues stalling when setting off. Only stalled once, downhill experimenting with hil hold.
Uphill no issues, but I don't think it liked what I tried. 😁
I think I read somewhere that the new triple engines had an anti stall feature... maybe it was just on the new speed triple and not the t-plane triple of the Tiger
      Thx

Where did you buy your screen deflector ?
Is it just a cheap Ebay jobbie ?

Did you get the 2 lower deflectors? I put some on my 1200 GTX and couldn't tell any difference. Save your $$

They were on the bike as standard, so couldn't comment.
But certainly the top deflector works a treat for removing the wind buffeting, and thus some of the noise the microphone picks up.
Not 100% but enough for me.
      Thx

You said the range was down to almost 0 when you pulled into the fuel station. How many
liters, did it take to fill it up? I'm curious how much reserve I have when the range says 0.

Hiya, yeah the fuel light comes on at about 4 litres remaining. I've just checked the receipt for that fuel and I'd put 27.23 litres in the tank. So there was at least 3ltr more fuel when I filled up.
On my Speed Triple 1050 RS I have reached zero miles range in the tank and still managed another 5 mile to the petrol station. It was downhill most of the way but I did panic a bit. 😁
      Thx
