  • After a brief look around the Triumph motorcycles showroom in Nottingham, I take out the all new Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro for a test ride. I was thoroughly looking forward to having a go on this machine & it didn't disappoint.
    The new 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 is lighter & faster than the market leading BMW1250 GS. So as a GS rider myself, as a lay person here's my New Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro review.

    I just got a question from Qinghui ; 'Is this bike manufactured in the UK'.
    I think its a good question & followed some research this is the answer I can provide;
    In February 2020 Triumph announced they would be moving the remainder of large scale motorcycle production, including the Tiger 1200 and Speed Triple production lines to their Thailand factories, leaving only the specialist Triumph Factory Customs and prototype builds remaining in the UK. Fast forward to 2022 & there has been a resurgence of Triumph motorcycle sales, in particular their mass market Trident 660 & Tiger 900 range. Coupled with their launch in China & other markets in the Philippines & South Korea. There has also been more demand in Europe. This European demand has led to a increase in production in the UK. Triumph's Paul Stroud has quoted as saying '''We'll still be producing Tiger 1200's & 900's over in Thailand, but also producing more locally to sell to the local markets''.

    Great review, thank you. I just test rode the GT Pro here in the US this past Saturday and really liked it. I'm currently riding a 2019 R1250RT and love that bike so not sure I'm ready to make the switch yet. Maybe in another year? :)

    • @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips

      Hi fleuger, yes it's a great bike Triumph have done a great job raising the bar to compete in this sector. I met an Italian couple on tour in Wales recently on a RT, that bike does look impressive & looks just ideally suited for long distance touring. This Triumph GT Pro like the RT can push out the miles too but has the added multi purpose option for going off road. The Market is competition in this niche but that's good for us consumers to have choice, like you say it's just deciding which one! Holding out and having a longer think is always wise, let me know what you opt for in the end. I just test ridden the Pan American 1250 Special today, that's a fine first entry adventure bike for HD.

    • @fleuger99
      @fleuger99 Před 2 lety

      @@DazmatronMotorcycleTrips Yes, the RT is an excellent bike for long trips, after switching to a better seat, the stock seat is terrible for long distance riding.
      How was the Pan American? I've never been a fan of HD bikes, designs and engine seem ancient but watched several good reviews of the Pan America. If I went adventure bike, I'd go Triumph though.

    • @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips
      @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips  Před 2 lety

      It was surprisingly good I only took it for 2 hrs road riding but for a first time entry for a adventure bike they have done a reasonable job. Of course it's all subjective, I'll throw a vid together to show how I got on with it. I have a feeling there's a Tiger in the pipeline for you though lol

    Hi another interesting video I did think the handlebars unless it’s the camera view looked a bit thin/cheap, also like you say you can’t get a proper feel for a bike over a short amount of time and I think the engine if it does give vibration might Cause fatigue over longer journeys. Although I’m not a biker anymore they’re just my thoughts, have to say though the technology has come a long way since I last had a bike.keep up the good work Ally.

    • @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips
      @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips  Před 2 lety +1

      I forgot to comment on the handlebars but agree with u. I prefer the GS Chunky bars & they are vibration free at top end! Was my first bike review but mainly as I was eyeing it up potentially as my next bike. In short I'm going to utilise my warranty on the GS which is 3 years then see. (Next time I'll get off the bike & get some shots of it!! Soz)

      @@DazmatronMotorcycleTrips Hi, no all good I really like watching your videos. I Think you’re making the right decision with the GS though cause you’ve got the kudos of it being a BMW, and in a couple of years who knows what they may bring out.

  • @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff

    You say the GS suspension is better. Unfortunaly with your limited time with the bike you don't get to delve tooo deep. In every rider mode Triumph have a preset suggested damping setting but without getting too deep into the menu you can select one of nine damping levels on every rider mode. And if you don't like preset damping levels at all you can disassociate damping from rider modes and have it in any one of the nine levels regardless of which rider mode you are in. It is a fabulous bike but a tiny bit too tall for me, just placed an order for a LRH GS.

    • @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips
      @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips  Před rokem +1

      True Terence i didn't get as much time as I would have liked on the bike, but thanks for sharing the fact that there are 9 different damping levels on each ride mode. Seems like there's enough options there then. I recall when I test rode the bike it was in 'Road Mode' so opted to not fiddle with anything else as mainly I was road riding it. It was only a slight noticeable difference comparing to the GS but not of any great margin & just an observation. Like you say though perhaps a couple of clicks on the dampening may have softened it a bit? Thanks for your comment really appreciate it, ride safe...

    Thanks very much for your useful follow-up. And I have another question re production in Thailand. What's the driver behind to push most of the players in the market to move their lines to Thailand. Cost should be one of the utmost. But are there any other you can observe? Thanks.

    • @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips
      @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips  Před 2 lety

      Hi Qinghui I am no economist or expert in this field but I would imagine one of the main factors is the labour cost. As demand is ramping up it would make sense to continue production in Thailand to serve that area of the world. As mentioned production has started again at the Triumph headquarters in England which will supply Europe, that would also make sense with import & shipping costs. Are you going to buy one??
