"When I'm gone,

It was written by Brian May
We will try to be strong for you, Freddie

Japanese fan here - just wanted to comment that the Japanese lyrics in this song is inexplicably gentle, sophisticated and beautiful. Not exactly the “modern” words we would use in daily life, but more like those of a quiet prayer. Thank you, Queen.
Beautiful

There was a story about a Japanese fan flying all the way to London just to go to Freddie's door bow to him and give him a flower and leave.

Your English is fine:-) I think you're right - Freddie seemed to really love Japanese people and culture. Amazed how well Freddie spoke Japanese. Such a rare westerner - at least as much as I know - who can tackle your language. He was amazing, wasn't he?

+Royalbigness I think it's Brain's lyric.
+Bajor Robert That's correct. This song was written by Brian May. This was one of the rare songs that he let Freddie sing.
I was a ticket inspector at St. Pancras Station in London many years ago. A Japanese lady arrived at the barrier, and we spoke in English. When she told me she was from Japan I began singing the Japanese chorus and she joined in. I will take that moment to my grave.
Freddie was a very big fan of Japanese culture. Even in the last days of his life while bedridden, he was still ordering Japanese artwork to add to his collection even though he couldn't appreciate it himself. This song is a love letter to Japanese fans.

My Fairy King, Nevermore, Love Of My Life, Teo Torriatte, My Melancholy Blues, Save Me, Who Wants to Live Forever, These Are the Days of Our Lives, Is This the World We Created, Too Much Love Will Kill You ..... Queen had always something extra from other rock bands .. these songs can touch the heart of man ... Freddie had so crystal voice, achieves amazing high notes, he has an amazing feeling. It's good reading everybody's comments and seeing that there's a new generation of Queen fans discovering these great songs for the first time. I grew up listening to Queen back in the 70's and 80's and their music sounds just as fresh today as it did back then.
oh I wonder what that feels like !! :)
Michael Brooks lucky. I wish I grew up then.
Michael Brooks Im 23yrs old and I was raised on this stuff. QUEEN, The Beatles, and David Bowie are proof that todays music is shit. We will sadly never get songs like this ever again. Thank God for these recordings
I'm 40 years old. I'm thinking the exact same thing. Queen were, are and always will be a legend. Kudos to all you kids who like this band. Shows what good taste in music you have. Freddie Mercury will live forever. ❤
I didn't grow up with Queen in quite the same fashion, but I still can recall listening to News of the World from the cassette player of my dad's van when I was six. Never stopped listening to them.
I am Japanese. When I first saw the title of this song, for some reason, I thought it was a Queen's song with Latin title (*Japanese language has its own characters). As I was listening to the song, I was surprised to hear Freddie singing in Japanese with perfect Japanese accent. What a beautiful song. Japanese translation just sounds like a real Japanese song which is keeping the poetic essence. Good job. Very natural.
That is Brian singing.

At this point in Queen's career, they could sing the Boston Phone Book and it'd been terrific.

much the same meaning as english chorus, except for the first line "Teo Torriate" which actually means "hand in hand together". hope this helps you.
Don't forget Brian May. He wrote the song after all.
Thanks for the confirmation. I've always wondered myself. Actually, everything means more or less the same then, since "hand in hand together" kind of has the same meaning with "let us cling together."
I am 77 years old, to this day I am totally in awe of everything, even the telephone book album if there was such a thing, sung or written by Queen. Dr. Brian May is still amazing and sooo intelligent, Freddie Mercury's talent is so far above any musician born in the 20th century and I have enjoyed or endured them all. Roger Taylor, I don't dare get started on my admiration and adoration for the singer/drummer, he too has no equal. John Deacon must have been the best bassist in the universe for the others to choose and keep him in the group always. He was/is so low key he's hard to know, but respect for him is unending. I could go on and on and on, but I'm sure you get an old lady's take on perfection.

My Dad was a huge Queen Fan. When he died we wanted this song to be one of his funeral songs, as it was one of his favorites. No matter what we or the funeral officials did, the song wouldn’t play - not even in the restaurant we had the „dinner“ in, after. Couple months later my sister and I were alone at home, sad, wishing dad was here when the DVD player started on its own - the cd was in it, but it was not song #1 on the cd... It was like track 4 or 5. It started. We felt so scared and reassured at the same time, it was unreal. We are convinced our dad didn’t want us to associate this song with his death that he stopped it playin during his funeral, but started it to comfort and console us. Thank you Queen and Daddy ❤️

This song touches me on so many levels... personal levels. In 1999 my Granny was suffering from Ovarian cancer that metastasized to her liver and bones. The morphine couldn't even provide her with "comfort" at that point. My Granny actually introduced me to Queen. She was born in 1929. Even though she was in a pain that was beyond angony and anguish I would sit with her for hours and we would listen to Queen together. This song was a very special song for the both of us. Even in the pain she was in she would try her best to sing along with me and Queen and hold my hand to assure me that even after her passing she would always be with me. I should have been comforting her but she was comforting me. I miss you, Granny.

And yes this song is far better than BoRhap.
My girlfriend is Japanese, and this song makes me think of her. During a darker point in my life when I was confused with my gender, I recorded myself singing and playing this for her, accompanied by a suicide note. I reflected and thought of how Brian May went through a similar state as well, but ultimately got through it. I never ended up attempting, nor did I ever get help, but I’m beginning to accept myself as transgender and Queen has helped me through this. The name Brian means so much to me now for what his music has helped me through, especially this song.
