Pentatonix has 10 years of songs for you to explore and I can confidently say that you can pick any song and it'll be great. They're probably best known for their seven Christmas albums, with originals and creative takes on standard holiday songs. They also do covers of pop songs from a variety of decades and styles, from 40's swing to Motown to K-pop, and "Evolutions" and medleys that combine dozens of songs into a 4-minute track. They also have two albums of original songs, with all group members contributing songs in their own style. And most of the group members have side projects and albums.

This was their first music video! They recorded the song and the video on Kevin and Avi's apartment. They spent $400 on the video and they won a Grammy!
If you want to see Mitch's range, check out PTX doing A Ha live at the Star Vista in Singapore (Avi blew out the speakers with an "omfg how low is that???" note at the beginning, then Mitch proceeds to go completely off the chain. It's from a fan's phone, and they're an absolute legend for getting this once in a lifetime performance and uploading it!
There's also Superfruit, which is Mitch's and Scott's side project. Their cover of Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked is just crazy (and shows off Scott's higher range too!). And with Superfruit, you always have to watch to the end, because there's bloopers (if you want to see them be complete goofballs, the Yoga Challenge video is just off the charts hilarity and Mitch over sharing a wee bit). They also have original songs, that are so much fun!

There are three top a cappella groups in the reactors' world - Pentatonix is one of them. The others are Home Free and Voiceplay. They all have their own style and are great in different ways. Please add the other two groups to your list (not to rank or compare them, but enjoy all three). Really enjoyed your enthusiasm for the discovery, we'll enjoy following the journey. No disrespect. I'm not talking about quality since that's subjective and if you like Homefree and Voiceplay in the same way i totally understand and respect that. But international stars and small bands can't be put in a top 3 as if they somehow rank close to each other.

This song won them their first Grammy. Filmed in a kitchen and recorded in a closet!!! The amazingness of Queen Mitch can not be overstated. When a person is first introduced to Mitch, it's usually him doign something insane with his voice and the look of shock, eyes bugged out, mouth hanging loose, is colluquially known as being Mitch Slapped. Get used to it, it will happen a LOT. Scott is the tall blonde he's a baritone, Kevin the beatboxer is incredible. He also plays cello, and went to Yale. He also beatboxes and cello at the SAME time! Which is called celloboxing. Avi the bass, he'll blow your eardrums as easily as he does speakers. And Kirstie, our angel. You have earned yourself a new subscriber, and I can't WAIT for your journey down the PTX rabbit hole.

To perfect this sound, Mitch and Kirstie admitted in an interview that they have many, many days that are 12+ hours long. That was a huge factor in their choice of a bass to replace Avi. They needed someone who was familiar with acapella, and the amount of work that sound takes. Matt Sallee had just graduated with his degree in vocal performance from the Berkelee College of Music in Boston. He had years experience with acapella. And he’s done great since he joined the group in late 2017. And by the way, they made this video in a kitchen closet for $400!

I'm sure you've heard this already, but this video won them a Grammy - and yet it was recorded in the apartment shared by beatboxer Kevin and bass guy Avi, and filmed in their closet, on a budget of about $400. THAT'S how good they were even back then - and they've just got better and better since. Of course you HAVE to see their 'Bohemian Rhapsody' cover now - so good, even Brian May of Queen himself tweeted a link to their video with the word "Enjoy." And yes, they do have their own, original songs too. 'Love Again' is a similar dance-tech vibe to this one (and really showcases what Mitch and Avi can do,) and there's also 'Sing,' 'On My Way Home,' 'Natural Disaster' and 'Standing By.' Oh, and some of their best later ones (with Matt replacing Avi as bass) include 'Coffee In Bed,' 'Happy Now,' 'Be My Eyes' and 'Love Me When I Don't.'

Mitch is the guy with the very high voice, you’ll continue to be amazed by him (all of them, but especially him), Scott is the tall blonde, baritone. Kirstie is the girl (that’s how she used to refer to herself, she’s a lot more than that obviously) she’s the soprano. Kevin is the amazing beat boxer (arguably the most talented, he can cello box, sing, play drums, piano, rap etc..) Avi (Ah Vee) is the bass, he left the group in 2017 (under the best, most amicable circumstances, he creates also solo music) Matt is the new bass since 2018, he has a different bass voice, but he’s absolutely amazing, has a perfect smooth singing voice and he is the most joyful individual ever, he’s a great addition to the group. I'll help you out.
So you can wrap your head around it, in the video at 4:31 where they are all in separate boxes, they are, in order:
Scott (white hair/eyebrows)-- Mitch (brown short hair) -- Kirstin (face makup/blue wig) -- Avi (moustache/goatee) -- Kevin (black eye visor).
I hope you watched to the very end of the video when they saiy "HEY!" They are, from left to right:
    1. Mitch Grassi (tenor lead and backing vocals) in the teal shirt with black stripes (back row)
    2. Avi Kaplan (vocal bass, vocal percussion, bass lead and backing vocals) in the black button-up shirt wearing the hat (front row)
    3. Scott Hoying (baritone lead and backing vocals) in the black V-neck shirt (back row)
    4. Kevin Olusola (vocal percussion, beatboxing, backing vocals) in the brown collared shirt wearing a necklace (front row)
    5. Kirstin Maldonado (soprano lead and backing vocals) in the black tank-top wearing earrings (also, the ONLY GIRL)
In September 2017, Avi Kaplan, the group’s original bass, left the group amicably and was replaced by Matt Sallee (not pictured here).
Pentatonix have won three Grammy Awards: they were the first a cappella act to win Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella, doing so in 2015 and 2016,[17] and Best Country Duo/Group Performance in 2017.
So now you see them in makeup and costume and what they look like in real life. Those ARE their REAL VOICES, the singing style with voices ONLY, no instruments is called "a cappella", and they are all friends with 3 originally from Arlington, TX.

I'm so glad you've enjoyed Pentatonix sound! This featured a medley of the band Daft Punk's biggest hits in a futuristic groove you can't possibly ignore. They started off in my country, USA, on an a cappella competition called "The Sing-Off"; they themselves being a collection of singers, musicians, & overall homebodies trying- no, succeeding in 'making it big'. I find it fun you thought of Imagination Dragons with this group because they did a cover of Imagination Dragons' song "Radioactive" & feature violin artist Lindsey Sterling in their video- a very apocalyptic take on the feature, plus you get to see some of Kevin's roots (he was your beatbox extraordinaire) in sound AND cello!
I know they have done some original work, mostly on their separately released albums, though their unique approach to 'remixing a cappella' is enough to be original in my book, so take that as you will. Another couple of recommendations I would suggest are: "Video Killed the Radio Star" which they performed on the competition The Sing-Off, which really planted them on the map of creative minds... & their take on "Somebody That I Used To Know"- a more direct approach to their covers & the versatility shown in each of their members.
Side fact: first time viewer, will not be the last- I love seeing your excitement. Point blank, a first reaction never gets old & it doesn't matter how soon or late something comes out; when it's this good, it's timeless.

First, they always give you a little side smile, because they know precisely how good they are and how much they are about to absolutely blow your mind. Second, they did this without ANY special effects, auto tune, or instruments. Not only that, but they recorded and edited on an iPad in their closet and kitchen for like $400. Third, their is another video of them performing this live with nothing more than a couple microphones in a hotel conference room for a handful of VIP fans. They pride themselves on being able to perform all of their music live and completely acapella. Lastly, they actually won their first Grammy for this remix of several Daft Punk songs. I love your reactions, and that you finally fell down the Pentatonix rabbit hole with the rest of us Pentaholics. I could tell they had you hooked 10 seconds into the first video.

    answering all of your questions
all of the sounds you hear is them :DDDD yes they have their own music :)) They mostly do covers but if you want to get some of their original songs check "sing" or "Misbehavin".
So they are a group of friends met in school times and won a talent show as pentatonix.
Mitch - the guy with high voice, very talented, changes his appearance often so its easy to confuse him for new people😂
Kirstin - the girl also crazy talented with very cute smile
Avi - guy with the beard and long hair, incredibly talented, known from his very deep voice but he also has an amazing singing voice which i think people often miss by being focused only on his "low" parts of singing. he sadly left the group for personal family reasons and he does some music on his own now.
Scott - blonde hair guy as talented as all of them in the group, in "hallelujah" people often miss how good he carried the low parts with his deep voice meanwhile avi was singing his part ;)))
Kevin - beatboxing dude, he has lot more to show than just beatboxing, an amazing singer and he is crazy good at playing cello.
few of my fav songs for you to check out -
"dance of the sugar plum fairy" - its just ART and you HAVE TO see it. a really good one to see what Mitch and Avi do with their voices
"bohemian rhapsody" - work of art, the singing, the clip, its just a one big presentation of what they are capable of
"90s dance medley" - very cool mix of old 90s songs i love it
"imagine" - touching song and their voices just making it better, you can also get to know them a bit more on clip
"little drummer boy" - a really good song to show what kevin can do with his voice
"silent night" - live pure singing recorded in church.
"Mary did you know" also a good one, crazy how they use their voices, i think they dont own a bad song
if you read it all i am very thankfull 😂 man i just finished whole nf journey and you come with PENTATONIX??? you kidding me im addicted to these two. love your reactions, keep being yourself we love you like this!

It's 7 songs by Daft Punk, the French EDM duo (recently retired), put together in a DJ style mix.
They did an original EDM song : Love Again.
In terms of crazy/impossible, they did a version of Bohemian Rhapsody that was recommended by Brian May.
Do you like Imagine Dragons? Try Radioactive. They got some help from a dancing violinist.
Their Havana has excellent atmosphere so you just get sucked into the mood.
Lots more. When Christmas comes around again, they have 4 or 5 albums of that. Some traditional, some modern, some originals.

This won them their first Grammy-so yes-respect! You will end up with down a rabbit hole with some of the most loyal fans ever-Pentaholics! 😁
The one who’s voice you love so much is Mitch-his look changes ALL the time but he is an original member who is in all their songs-and the way you felt when he sang in Hallelujah-we call that being Mitch-slapped!
The girl is Kirstie (Kirsten) and she also ALWAYS changes her looks too but has been there since the beginning.
Scott is the tall blonde guy who covers the bass when their bass sings and has an amazing range and hit runs with the best of em!
Kevin is their beatboxed who is also amazing at the cello (he beatboxes with it and calls it cello-boxing), speaks mandarin and was premed when he left school to join Pentatonix.
Avi is their bass-or was until he left (on good terms and the only change in the original lineup) in 2017 and has one of the deepest voices you will hear-but sings beautiful as well
Lastly-Matt-which you haven’t met him yet-was the bass who Avi helped find that replaced him in 2018. He is young, soulful and a different feel than Avi but a great replacement in his own rights!
For some really good ones by them, check out amazing Grace, radioactive (you said imagine dragons and Kevin cello-boxes), imagine, evolution of Michael Jackson and ANY of their Christmas stuff. They also won Grammy’s for their version of dance of the sugar plum fairies and Jolene with Dolly Parton. Just LOVE your joy at discovering Pentatonix! You commented about how much they were enjoying themselves but you need to understand that not only are they supreme vocal artists, they're also wonderful actors - or at the very least, superb emoters. In "Daft Punk Medley", you saw the joy; in "Love Again" (an original), the distoptian disaffect; in "The Prayer" & "Amazing Grace", an unswerving faith; in "Say Something", utter sadness; & "Mad World", such depression! Additionally, the videos are so well done that they often add to the whole feeling of the music. For instance, "Mad World" is shot on a black background. Each of the singers is alone in the frame, though all are singing. Facially, the people are . . . if not slack-faced, then without affect. There are "ghost" images of the singers walking behind the solid singers. Not all their music is so dramatic though. Fun, & possibly a not-so-subtle poke in the nose of the well-off, "My Favorite Things" is a marvelous take on the Julie Andrew's song from the "Sound of Music". SO many others: "My Heart with You"; Ariana Grande's "Problem"; "Radioactive", with KO (Kevin Olusola) on cello & Lindsey Sterling on violin; "Making Christmas" from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (GREAT fun); a mash-up: "New Rules x Are You That Somebody"; & their inimitible version of "Bohemian Rhapsody". Seems like a ridiculously long comment, but I left out so many, like "90s Dance Medley", "Come Along", & Kiiara's "Gold". Can you tell I'm proudly a Pentaholic? So glad to see you've found the Rabbit Hole. I've liked & subscribed. Looking forward to seeing you often. (Oh, yeah. "Imagine" is remarkable.)

Kevin the beatboxer dropped out of Yale where he was studying Pre-Med. He is also a classically trained Cellist. They found him on you tube doing what he did Cello Boxing. He also speaks fluent Mandarin.
