  • Reform UK has secured a fifth seat as the final election result in England was declared at South Basildon and East Thurrock, following a recount.
    James McMurdock narrowly defeated the Labour candidate by 98 votes, replacing Conservative Stephen Metcalfe.
    He joins leader Nigel Farage as the second Reform UK MP in Essex after Farage's victory in Clacton.

    James McMurdock is a local lad from where he has been elected and has a degree in finance. He has worked in investment banking and has "facilitated billions of dollars in business deals across sectors including energy, infrastructure and manufacturing for both global corporations and developing countries governments" He is 38 years old.
