BIGGEST TRACTOR on my farm, the CAT powered White 4-225

- Spring is finally here, time to drive them instead of fix them. We have been wet, but with the combination of sunshine, wind and sandy soil, I was able to get out with the White 4-225 and start discing corn stubble that will eventually planted to soybeans. So sit back and enjoy the music of the 3208 CAT engine and the sounds of disc blades cutting the soil. There's even some commentary, but not much as a spring cold is having its way with my voice.

I am from Australia, we used to see these tractors at the farm shows in the 80s ,they are such a well styled cool machine and my dream tractor. We had a 4-150 and loved it .We farmed around 800 acres and the 150 handled it easily.

We had a great oliver white dealer in.my small village. Great for parts and service. Only problems they encoutered was not keeping up with growing farms their biggest horsepower

I agree, but I do recall talking to older farmers that didn't care for it at first. Adding the red to the decals really helped in my opinion.

My neighbors got 2 of them non turbo 4 _ 210s there in pretty good condition they been working them on about the same set up there dairy farmers lots of whites and Oliver's looks great and enjoyment at its finest 👍

I bet you wish you and your dad could have gotten your hands on one of those 4-375's. A 3406 is a powerful mill. I bet those thing could rip ground like no ones business.
It would have been bigger than we needed, but I bet we could have found someone to put behind it.

Not trying to "one up anyone" but we had the 185- and 445-disc chisel out one day, the last week of Feb.
I got two txt from neighbors with in the hour after leaving some dirt on the road pulling out. It worked nice. Not much action here. Tractors serviced, planter out and keep wrenching. Fun vid kiddo!
It's funny how that works. I tell people about farmer peer pressure, but most think I'm joking. The struggle is real. 😂
@@ThatOliverGuyChris As much as I hate to admit it, it does work on or in your head. There is something about being the first in the field each spring. Some manure being hauled here and fertilizer being spread.

Friend of mine's got a 4-225. I spent a lot of hours in that tractor pulling a chisel. He completely restored it and rebuilt it from one end to the other. She sure is pretty. He runs all white tractors. Get to feeling better guy see you next time.

Ran 1 for a friend. They will get the job done, definitely not green. He took it to the local college every winter to have them work on it. What I thought was funny, no park. Had to park it like a M.

Happy Easter. I always enjoyed disking fluffing up the soil and smoothing it out . I found it satisfying.
I find it satisfying. Not much pressure, just driving a tractor and enjoying the day.
Chris, you need some of Old Doc Brians's cough syrup. His secret recipe had Cherry syrup, Whiskey, ???, and his nephew, my uncle who inherited all of Doc's office equipment and included some big glass jugs of cough syrup, claimed there was a touch of Cresote in the syrup. I remember getting a dose of it when I was a kid and I guarantee you it worked. Mainly because it cured you ever wanting to cough again so that you did not get a dose of it again. Another thing we got as a kid was penicillin whenever we got bad colds. Grandpa would go to the vet, get a prescription for penicillin to use on his dogs, get the penicillin from the drugstore and we got shots. Grandpa was a diabetic and had to give himself insulin every day. That was back in the day when injection needles were large bore needles. He would hone the needles sharp every few days and Grandma would boil the glass syringe every night. OH DID THAT NEEDLE HURT!!!! It is a wonder that one of us grandkids or our parents was not killed due to a penicillin reaction.
Great video, you should sell tickets where people could drive real equipment like that and had to actually steer it and not watch video screens depicting what was happening. Actually White was probably the first with digital readouts.
When I was a kid and we had both cattle and hogs, there was always antibiotics in the fridge. We never used them on us, but I might try it now. Feeling crappy and it's going to be a beautiful week.

Thanks. The cold didn't get better, but with enough medication that says don't drive heavy equipment, I'll be out there driving heavy equipment.
There were very few White 4 wheel drive tractors in my area. Most farms had either Versatile or Massey.
We had two Masseys, 1500 and 1505. The Cat engines were good.
We didn't sell many, but a dealer to the west of us sold a lot of 4-150s. There used to be a lot them around, and there probably still is, in the fence line behind the barn.

I'm doing better today. Yesterday was a little rough, but me and the 4-225 still disced over 100 acres. Must be the cab therapy is working!

I can remember when i was a kid seeing the White equipment ads in the Progressive Farmer magazine and i always thought they were really beautiful tractors with their styling and color. I bet that dirt was smelling good.

3208turbo, Cat quit building them over 20 years ago, still supply many of the parts, got one on the dyno and another one going together. Sell 'em to Bluebird Wanderlodge end users, still a lot of marine use too.
I've heard Cat still offers factory reman 3208s.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris Not according to Fabick Cat in Milwaukee where I get most of my parts. OH kits come from Interstate McBee in Cleveland. Cat parts I use are reman connecting rods @ 2 grand a set exchange, injection nozzles and you have to watch the adapters in the cylinder heads that fit between the injection lines and nozzles under the valve cover. They go bad and cause a dead miss. Cat has no soul. Used their reman cylinder heads a couple times, can do as well @ better price w/local shop. Had to return a Cat head last go round due to surface finish. Had to exhange one con rod due to the big end being .002 out of round, I'm pretty sure they use an outside shop for that sort of thing, but they have the hook up on the pin bushing install. Watch your valve lash and valve spring pressures, they love to drop valves, that's what happens to many of my customers. Your turbo S/N prefix is 02Z, important if you want the parts guy to get busy and I'd suggest you keep the RPMs @ 2400, just saying.

I think we got less rain. We went to my sister-in-law in Grand Ledge for Easter dinner and there's a lot more standing water over your way. Throw in the sand and things can dry out quick.
Our cruise ship was between the Florida Keys and Havana and we had gone up top to play miniature golf, when all of the sudden this roar keeps getting louder to the point that people are covering their ears. That's when the fighter jet buzzed our cruise ship, pretty much Top Gun style. He pulled up and came back around giving another pass that wasn't as close and flew away. They guy next to me says, " I don't think that was one of ours" i agreed and said it was probably Cuban. Wish I had thought to take a picture. Our first thoughts were, the world has finally gone nuts, but at least we're on a cruise ship. 😂

To bad more 4-225 were not sold originally. Makes them almost impossible to find today. Was a White dealer in the local town back in the day. I have come across a 4-210 in the area but never seen a 4-225/
I saw some production numbers at one time, and can't remember them now, but the 4-225 was a very low number.

Sandy ground. We also had some dry spells last year, so this corn didn't do quite as well as the rest. Have you started putting seed in the ground yet?

I do have some hay left, some is sold and they come and get it as they need it. Things really greened up fast after Tuesday. It was 70 and rain. I'm a little concerned that the trees might flower too soon and then we get a frost and the fruit crop is ruined.

What was the reason for the company getting in trouble. The dealer in town seemed to sell quite a few tractors? Thanks for the videos.
In a nutshell, mismanagement. Texas Investment Corporation had bought the White Fatm Equipment company from White Motor arund 1982. That came with a lot of outstanding debt from the mismanagement of the 1970s. The 80s farm crisis got into full swing shortly after TIC bought WFE making things worse. I can see where selling the combine line raised capital, but discontinuing the articulated line did no such thing. They couldn't sell the line because it used many of the same components as the 2wd tractors. So it just stopped. That doesn't make sense to me but I'm sure they could show on paper why it was a good idea.
I see that White made a 4-325 powered by a Cat 3406. Have you thought about getting one of those?
There were only 4 built, so it would be a tough one to get, but I'd try if one became available.
4 built and only 3 left in existence. 2 are owned by the same farm in Iowa and the 3rd I believe is either in Indiana or Ohio. Not sure about that, I'd have to watch Ethans video again to be sure.

That's a 2 way radio near the clutch. The heat and air conditioning are built unto the console just behind the operator on each side.
White was bought by AGCO in 1991. They kept making White tractors until 2000 when the name was dropped. They still make planters with the White name on them.

That Super 55 belongs to a friend. It needs tires, and a wiring harness. I bought a harness and should get around and pull it up to the shop to get it running. It would make for good CZcams.

There are a couple of 4-270s in the area, so maybe I can get one someday. A lot of the powershift parts are no longer available, so they can be pricey or near impossible to repair.
There was a special version of the White 4wds called the Slope Boss. They had terra tires on all 4 corners and were sold mostly in Vermont to ski resorts for maintenance. I should do a video on them. I have quite a few pictures and even some literature. Do a Google search for White Slope Boss, you'll find pictures.
Very nice tractor! I picked up a 4-150 to play with this winter. Have you considered no-till? Here in NE we are 100% no-till.
Thank you I no till my corn, but I like to give the bean ground a discing to break up the corn fodder, smooth out rough spots, and to get some weed control. It seems to work, my spray guy said last week that I'm their only customer that they go across once for weeds in beans.

How did the brakes on those white work?? Was it a big disc brake like the versatiles and stuff?
I don't know how the Versatile is set up, but this has a large single brake disc between the differential and planetary final drives. It only has them on the front axles, but it's full time 4 wheel drive, so it stops them all.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris the exact same way…. Guess I’ll pass on a white too…. Lol caught my versatile on fire when their stupid design failed and the brake got stuck…. 🤢
The white brake is a wet brake if that makes a difference.

There was a 4-270, and they were just getting geared up to make the 4-325 when they decided to get out of the articulated tractor business.
