Thanks Robbie,it was nice to see some Jeep content again.💪👍👍
Happy to see you’re posting Robbie! Digging the WJ so far
Mine has that same air intake that you replaced! Can't wait to get rid of it. Bought it at an auction, also came with a bunch of cheesy led lights. Also came with some kind of lift and a touch of Death Wobble.
So glad to see a video detailing this install!! I too have a 2001 V8 WJ and have been wanting an intake solution for years. I eagerly anticipated when THOR was prepping this intake, but then got leery of it seeing the cutting needed. But, this makes me excited to order and utilize this intake.
Thanks. The cutting is a little intimidating, but there is not much to cut out. I have been impressed how well the filter is protected from dust. Been doing many backgrounds trips and the filter stays pretty clean. Get the pre-filter though. It helps a lot.
Put some Cams from an 08 or later, those will really wake it up. I run a set from an 09 Ram in my 04, noticeable power increase especially past 3500.
I put Thor cowl induction on my 4.0l Jeep WJ about 2 years ago. It performs great! I have a pre-filter it stays clean compared to being in the engine bay. The whooshing and whistling noise behind the glove box take a bit of getting used to.😂
Gonna mis my 00 Grand Cherokee limited patriot blue forced to sale got colon cancer at the beginning of last year it's whooping my arse fellas she's still here but on her way out IL still watch and maybe get another one later down the road good video my brother
I have that exact Grand Cherokee.
Great video brother. I’ve been debating on one of these for the last year or so for my 4.7l and I think it’s a perfect solution. Frees up that extra space up front and keeps the filter clear from debris.
I like it so far. It's loud inside, but does good at keeping the filter clean. Get the pre-filter for sure
@@MuddyBeards4X4 oh no worries there. I rode around with no cat/ muffler for a few months last summer until I throw my flowmaster 44 on there. I think that sound paired with the intake will be mint!
sweet wheels!
Wanted to do this but the cowl is a good catch all for debris and water. Good idea but some extra engineering could definitely benefit
I'm totally with you #wheelingoffthewrench
Thank you for the video Robbie, I have an XJ and was strongly thinking about this system. I have a snorkel I ordered, it’s been in the box, in the garage for over a year now and the negatives out weighs the positive for me.
Negatives being cut hole in the fender, snorkel hanging out to potentially get knocked off by trees or rocks, grafting it into the factory air box and hoping it does not leak, or bypassing the air box and running a tiny in line aftermarket 3” tube with filter installed , which I also purchased.
So thank you for showing me a good option to avoid all of that, to get the same if not better end results. Can’t wait to see the completion of the trail plug for testing purposes.
I feel on the 4 door XJ moving the axle back like your going is great option for more tire clearance to sit lower and have a better departure angle.
I know you are busy like we all are… I really appreciate your content.
Can you pair this with a 2008 intake? Din't think so. Kinda solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Hold your hand in front of the intake duct and see how much draw a V8 pulls. That rain gutter isn't gonna cut the mustard. AFE is loud but that and an 08 intake with matched Throttle body and you're gaining 20+hp and 35ftlbs of Torque. Does sound nice.
Are you still happy with this? Pros or cons you want to tell us about? Thumb up for the video. 😎
Nice, may do it to my 00 wj 4.7. 1 question, how well does it handle engine torque with one end fixed to the fire wall?
I really like the idea, but how well does it really work? Im still running the stock intake, but am wanting to upgrade, how does it handle water?
Doing this or all the way into the firewall seems like it would be beneficial to any offroad vehicle.
Need to wake up my 3.8L JK. Maybe someday.
The cold air intakes aren't really all that like they say.
Maybe design a hood scope type thing from carbon fibre, thats what I'm going to do.
That could be really cool
Ported throttle body and intake manifold, do really wake up these 4.7
Really like your video's and your wj have a question about what size of rims and tires are you running?
Thanks. They are a 17x8 kansei wheel and 33 inch tires
Would this still work with a cabin filter?
So i live here in Washington over in the rain forest area ish and before i go to buy this i was hoping what you think about it with all the rain that Washington gets
It's get some wet debris in the cowl. But the filter stays mostly dry. That shield deflects the water pretty well. I have had no issues.
I wanted to do this mod on my ZJ but couldnt justify the price and not sure about the location for the filter in the cowl as I live in a snowy and wet area of the world. So it would be cool to see your opinion on this mod after a year or so!!
been running one for a while on my zj, through last years heavy snow (where we live) and had zero issues. Lots of people concerned but even with my cowl intake, and hood louvers with the trip tray removed, no electrical issues, and no water in my intake. win win for colder air in the engine, and more heat exiting the engine bay
Wow that’s good to know. 👊
Hey Robbie, good video! I have a 2000 WJ, I was considering the same install, looks easy enough. I did put cooling louvers on the hood & I think the hot air from the engine/exhaust goes into that vent area. Because of that my A/C isn't as cool.
Hmm interesting. Wouldn't think that would effect your ac
Since inside cabin air is pulled from the cowl I assume he may be noticing more engine heat coming into the cabin thru the cabin filter. This should be omitted if running with recirc button on. The THOR doesn't seem to create a tight seal and... Maybe his cutting was different than yours.
I like the concept alot. I have a 2002 Overland and would love the underhood space opened up.
Hey man love your wj videos/build you got going. So how are you liking the intake now that it's been installed for a few weeks? What are any if noticeable differences of this kit vs the stock air box?
I really don't think there has been a noticeable power gain. Filter is staying dry though, and I really think I'm going to enjoy the extra space under the hood when I do my dual battery and switch gang under the hood
@@MuddyBeards4X4 Nice. I hope to see a video on how you add the second battery. I've got a project this weekend for my 04 wj that I cant wait to get done but also dreading the job. Ha ha oil pan and gasket time. My wj has just under 250k. Leaking like a sieve. Wish me luck!
@@drewbelansky9427you are not gonna like the oil pan removal, you most likely need to remove the exhaust to get it out of vehicle and the transmission bracket between oil pan and transmission to get all the bolts out.
Use RTV the gaskets only work so long.
Great video what's going on with the trail plug 1 ton swap haven't seen it in along time ? Any plans for finishing it up in 2023?
Thanks. And yes I have been working on it. I'm am for sure going to have it done this summer
I love that build
I want to do this mod to my 4.0, one to gain space in the engine bay for additional battery, possibly better MPG, and cleaner air. But I wonder if it conflicts with the cabin filter mod, can you confirm that?
that's what I was wondering?
Cutting into the firewall was a huge hell no for me, i was interested until i saw that horrifying part of the vid lol
Yep that's a hot air intake. Lol. Any power gained from flow is lost by hotter air. 10 degrees cooler air is 1 hp typically
Right
Are you gonna post a video on the xj
I am working on it yes.
This cherokee needs a snow wheeling/camp out!
I agree
Probably can’t use that filter if you have a cabin air filter.
Great idea, but, I gotta tell ya my dude, in reality I truly wouldn’t rely on it. Not without somehow completely sealing off the cowling area around the large opening cut into the firewall from the engine compartment. Water intrusion level is really no better with the THOR setup, quite possibly even worse, than that of the previous intake.
Do you plan to slap axles ?
Not at this point no. They should hold up to what I want to do
@@MuddyBeards4X4 I run 33s with a similar suspension set up (diesel 3.9 gears) and it is fine. Also the IRO steering is a nice upgrade.
I plan on doing the iro steering here real soon
Hate to tell ya but, that ain’t no belt squeak my dude….that’s a bearing. 💯
News reporter does repairs. Gg
Sorry, but this is not a good place for a air filter. Cover brkt will not protect the Filter to get wet. Also all the water will run out of this big cut out 😢
We have had some torrential down pours and snow. Both driving and parked it's stayed bone dry. That cover diverts the water and from there the cowl does its job and channels the water out. Guess I am just lucky 🤷♂️
1st :)
