Installing Upgraded Intake Manifold on 4.7 Jeep, Dodge

- A detailed description of how to install the 2008 and later 4.7L Intake Manifold in 2007 (8 spark plug V8's) and earlier Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Ram, Dakota, and Durango. This is the part number for the Intake Manifold 53034229AA and the same used in this video. The 53032761AJ is the manifold that came out in 2008 and was then replaced with 53034229AA in 2011. Both manifolds work great. Chrysler made small changes in 2011, I noticed that the runners and entrance are smoother on the later model.
Note if installing the 08 and later intake manifold on a 4.7 with knock sensors make sure that the knock sensor wire harness points straight back to the rear of the engine or the sensor may make contact with the intake runner and the intake manifold will not properly aline with the cylinder heads.

You are the man dude. Im no mechanic and everytime i watch one of your videos i learn something I needed to know for my Dodge im working on.
Thank you I really appreciate that. I'm glad you liked them and found them helpful.
Just wanted to thank you for this video which helped me with the issue i had with my 2005 ram 1500 4.7 which had been the pcv located in the back of the intake manifold.
I'm glad you liked it and found it helpful thank you for watching.
Awesome you had a helper.. Good Dad.
That is a memory you will have always.
Yeah it was nice when she'd want to come out and give me a hand but now that she's a teenager it takes quite a bit of persuasion to come out and give me a hand like the other day.
Outstanding!! You do a great service to those of us JGC 4.7 and newer Owners! Thank You!
Congratulations Martin. Thank you for more this class of mechanics prepared for us followers and admirers here in Brazil.
To avoid waisting gas and cautions you can remove the fuel pump relay and turn your key off and on 2-3 times and it will remove the pressure from your rail so you don’t have to do the step you mentioned. Test it out and thank me later. 👍🏼
Performed this swap yesterday on my 2001 durango and ran into few issues thanks to your video. It was incredibly helpful! love the extra power, keep up the great work 👍
@al carr no difference in MPG however you can feel the power gains in the midrange. the injector swap works well too.
@al carr swap took about 5 hours. if youre going to upgrade injectors and the intake i recommend doing them both at the same time since you have to remove the fuel rail anyhow. the upgraded injectors are the Denso 12582704. you can find reman ones on ebay for about $100 for 8. as for the throttle body, the newer 2008+ intakes used a different throttle body which requires an adapter. the adapter cost me $175. ill send you a link to the guy on Ebay who makes them : www.ebay.com/itm/1999-2007-Dodge-4-7-2008-and-up-Intake-Manifold-Adapter-plates/303142636356?hash=item4694b58b44:g:ltQAAOSwOh5cfXOs
also, you can reuse your stock air box assembly when you install the newer style intake. at least it worked on my durango with no issue. hope this helps, feel free to ask any more questions about the swap if you need
Bradley Hetland do you know if there would be any advantage to running an aftermarket injector or coils on my 05 grand Cherokee limited 4.7? If so which ones? Not doing the 08 intake swap, yet atleast. Still looking for a billet or looking to have one built. Jus looking to get injectors and do coils as well
2005 4.7L mopar Cai ,single chamber corsa dumped at rear axle , borla high flow cats, upgraded torque converter and transgo shift kit "not that tranny mods matter" just letting you know current status so you can better answer my injector and coil question. Thanks
What kind of issues did you go through? I have an '03 Durango with the 4.7
Finished install today, ran into some issues with removing fuel rail for 03 Dakota SLT , ended up being able to disconnect the left side of fuel rail to fit in the new intake, I was unable to disconnect all the right side injectors due to corrosion, the connectors were just disintegrating . Also had to disconnect the metal A/C pipes that sit over top of the intake for removal and installation of the intake manifold. This video was a lifesaver @martinbuilt thank you! Snapped my cruise control cable and my vacuum hose from the intake but she running good now!
Those are not AC pipes....that's the Heater hose pipes
Stefan are you still running that truck? If so how has this modification held up? I want to do the same thing to my 03 Dakota SLT...
I sure would love to hear what this thing dynoed after all your small booster mods
I admire your passion for speed Martin.
Excellent work Martin, greetings from Argentina. I just buy a 2001 Grand Cherokee 4.7lts and some of your vids help me a lot. Thanks!!
Thank you for all the wonderful work you do for the Jeep community! I own a 05 WK 4.7 and your videos have help change my Jeep for the better. Could you please make a quick video on the ram hood scoop and install? Thanks again keep up the great work.
Thank you John appreciate the kind words. I do have some video footage of the hood scoop install. I've never put the video out because the footage was never a complete install on the scoop but I can put something together.
I very just gotten into top end motor work like this more. I got into it too late at my age. My shop owner held me back before I got the chance to manage the shop. I'm learning alot on my own. Stuff like this does hell. This own seems easy compared to some of the v6s I've been doing recently
Thanks for sharing
Assuming Shelby is your daughter, it's very nice to see her in the garage hanging out with Dad.
yeah I like teaching her about automotive stuff.
Great work my brother! I can tell that you take great pride in what you do. Way to go! Very instructive!
Thank you I appreciate that.
Favorite gearhead quote of all time, right out of the gate when he mentions the TB adaptor and cable bracket from AirRam: "now I made these....I'm gonna be honest with ya it A LOT of work". LMAO!! Never days another word about it!! Lolol!!
Great video Martin, This is the most detailed instruction videos of installing the 2008 intake on the 99-07 4.7L vehicles I have EVER seen! You shed a lot of light on one area most people have issues with and that's swapping over the hardware from the older intake to the 08 intake. I like your 3/4 pipe plug idea however I'm just concerned a back fire could pop it out causing an un-commanded/uncontrolled WOT situation.
wwwAIRRAMcom Thank you... No I don't think there's any concern with that plug coming out it fits in their extremely tight. If there's any backfire issue it's going to come right out through the throttle body.
not at this time
@Dino Piccinin
Dino sounds like you enjoy doing the mods on your 4.7 as well. I am also looking for a set of 08 camshafts. Did you do any mods to the cylinder heads like changing out the valve springs or anything like that. Yes I was going to go with either flying Ryan or airram.Com to get a tune.
@Dino Piccinin
Nice to hear from people that have done the 08 cams and have successfully ran it for a long-time with the stock non HO Springs. Thinking about sending a set of HO cams to Crane Cams they're the only ones that have responded and said that they would regrind them. Maybe someday I'll get around installing a set of ported HO cylinder heads. I would like to have HO block as well.
@Dino Piccinin which ones are you going to lose the low end on the 206 or the 08 cams.. yes so far I found three sets of ho cams. I let a set of 08 cams get away from me because I didn't know about them at the time. I'm keeping my eyes out for them... and yes the specs on the 08 cam are more aggressive than the 206 I believe the 08 cam has a wider angle of lobe Center though
Hey Martin,
Just discovered your video series on the 4.7 and I gotta say your segments are awesome! I ended up subscribing as I picked up an 03 Dodge Durango about 6 months ago with a toasted trans for $600. It is equipped with a 4.7, 545RFE trans, NV 233 t-case, 9.25 rear with limited slip 3.55 axle ratio. I have since replaced the trans and truthfully was gonna flip it for resale but, after 2 months of driving it I gotta admit I kinda like it so, I've decided to play with it a bit. After viewing your vids last night and this morning I hit the local Pull A Part and low and behold... I came home with a pair of the 08 cams (Left 53021979AA, Right 53021980AA) and the intake manifold (53032761AI) A quick note.....Your part number for the intake ends in AJ but, I think I have an earlier version as the Durango I pulled the parts from had a November of 07 build date. My 03 Durango only has 102K on it so, My plan is to install the cams and intake with the adapter and run my stock throttle body for now. A performance exhaust and cold air intake are also on the list as well. I have a source for Chevy Ecotec 12 hole injectors. I saw that you installed them in your WJ. How do they work with the 08 intake and cams? Thank you for the vids and the inspiration!
you got all the right stuff, sounds like a great day at Pull a Part. The Ecotec injector works great with this combination. Thank you for subscribing
Love the mods and all the work you put in to your jeep.
Again excellent work! When I did my manifold swap for the PCV, I grabbed a steel brake line with a bore about the same as the factory rubber. I ran it back and under the manifold. It exits under the A/C compressor and wraps around to the PCV. It just made for a cleaner install.
curtis bradley I like that! I'll have to do that when I pulled the manifold off again to do a wire tuck on the right side valve cover
You did a really good job on that install and you're teaching your daughter well .
Thanks 👍
Hi Martin! As always, love your videos and I appreciate you putting them out there for us to use as guides. I wanted to share something though. I'm going through the process of installing an '08 intake manifold on my '01. The idea of lowering the engine down to get the new manifold in place didn't seem very appealing to me, so I was prepared to take the easy way out and cut the cowling just enough to get it to slide into place. Well, I set the manifold in as far as I could so I could see what needed to be cut, and wouldn't you know it, the '08 manifold slid right into place! I had to wiggle it and move it around some, but it went right in! No having to cut anything and I didn't have to lower the engine.
Thank you Leland , We're you installing this on a Grand Cherokee? And if so it's possible that your motor mounts are in need of replacing and that could possibly give you the additional room you needed. Nevertheless I'm glad you got it in there.
@@martinbuilt Yes, it's a Grand Cherokee. It's funny you mention the motor mounts, because as soon as I posted I thought to myself "maybe it's just my motor mounts are bad!" :-)
@@martinbuilt What did you end up doing for the air temp sensor?
@@lelandgray8996lol.. time for a set of martinbuilt polyurethane motor mounts.
@@lelandgray8996 I relocated it into the ram-air that I built
It's more work getting the manifold installed than installing the cams.
The IAC on the Oh-8 is wholly incompatible with the IAC circuit on the WJ
Yeah man! Thanks again for the heads up on the difference in manifold height, I'm of the same mind. I'd rather not cut my cowling or make any modifications at all other than the intended job at hand. Would it be easier to remove the motor mounts entirely with the four bolts rather than trying to massage them out of the rubber? Ive got a manifold coming. Again thanks for being a trail blazer. On the shoulders of Giants
Thank you, James. You are very welcome. Just so everybody understands You only need to remove the 2 motor mount bolts to lower the engine enough to get the intake manifold installed. Once the intake is installed the engine can be raised back up and the motor mount bolts returned.
@@martinbuilt Hello Martinbuilt, I've never had to pull the mounts , yet. Presumably the single bolt hole through the mount has a steel sleeve. I'd hate to be under there and try banging a bolt through solid rubber. A steel sleeve is hopefully inset for steel on steel. I might add the sound of your 4.7 is most auspicious and envy inducing.
I'd further like to add this video alone is responsible for the spike and absence of available 2008 WK intakes.
You make everything look so easy. Well done.
Thank you I really appreciate that. I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks for this video, I could not see how to get the plastic slide off the other throttle ball (Cruise Control) cable. I did not notice it had a notch in the back and it just slides off. (Details)! Cheers!
Agree.
I thank the lord for your video. U am currently stranded in boise Idaho. Some guy came by and pucked up a wrench and started trying go help me take out spark plugs (I was replacing them). Long story short...he dropped the socket info the manifold. Ive tried everything. Magnets...everything. I undid my manifold but the top wont come off. I sat there and stared at it for a long gime and started to cry. In 900 miles from home and dong know a soul here. Single woman....i am a little intimidated. Wish me luck. I am going to do this. I bought new gaskets. What else do you recommend replacing while undone. I alrwadt did the iac and the throttle sensor and cleaned fhw theottle body.
sorry to hear that, I wish you were closer, I help you out. I would think you should be able to get it with a magnet, you'll need one that has a long wand on it to reach the socket. I doubt that socket would ever get sucks into the cylinders, it would just sit there on the bottom of the plenum.
He's put a lot into this jeep! Nice work!
Beautiful work! Lowering the engine by a half an inch reduces your center of gravity. Minimizing your rollover risk. Just saying there's additional benefits
Thank you. The engine only lowered temporarily to get the intake manifold installed and then raised back up and bolted to the motor mounts.
@@martinbuilt my bad, I didn't finish watching the entire video. I thought perhaps you fabricated some brackets to maintain the motor height.
Excited to see the new modified throttle body
Grant Miller hope you can be a little patient. I actually started this project over a year ago. So I have to go through video, put it all in order from a year ago until now.
Due to the IAC issue I returned to the 68mm with the back honed to 70mm. It works great The guy I bought the intake from got the model years messed up. 3rd Strike. I bought so many parts from them I lost track myself. The IAC is crititcal for cold idle, mileage and proper metering of air entering the manifold. Mounting the MPS threades right into the left side of the intake and is very responsive a location.
Nice video sir 👍🏽 regarding pcv hose for my 07 jgc laredo 3.7 i need to replace it i think there leak from the left side elbow (p0507) i ordered the hose from amazon w two elbows on each side should be here Monday is that a simple plug and play installation i could do? Is there somethings i should know about b4 replacing the hose other than rerouting the hose up and behind the throttle body instead of under it like it was from factory?
Good video
Whatever your 4.7 is in makes me glad mines in a Ram. I got room for activities.
Thank you, yes I bet you have room under the hood of that Ram. You should see all I have done to this 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee to make room and to make the engine bay the best looking of any WJ and I'm not done yet.
My Dakota was already rigged with a noisy spacer, so may have the cable bracket issue allready taken care of.
I did this swap to my truck recently, but since then, my truck only revs to about 4k rpm and bounces like it's hitting a rev limiter, won't shift when it happens either until I let off the throttle. Any tips or advice would be really appreciated, hoping to have the rest of my rev range back if possible.
I pull the fuel pump relay/fuse and try and start the engine a few times to bleed off rail pressure
Thank you for creating this video. It is much appreciated.
My pleasure!
Great video. Only thing not shown was the 2 coolant lines that run over the intake were removed before filming
Thank you, there is no coolant line over the intake on a Grand Cherokee, you must have a Dodge.
Hello Mr Martin
I just seen Your episode
I have my Jeep 2004 4.7 v8 and am trying to install the same thing on my Jeep but I have missing the correct part or way to connect the pip of intake directly from the throttle body to the air box or without air box maybe.
And where is the pic sensors installation?
Could you please help me how to do that ?
shes has a great teacher... this guy knows his stuff. 👍
Thank You!
That is my daughter's name too. I hope she will help me out in the garage soon. Great video
Thank you, at the time my daughter was born I was a big Ford fan so of course I had a name Shelby. She's 13 now and I got to pretty much beg her to come out to the garage and give me a hand.
@@martinbuilt well, someday I hope to do a factory 5 AC Shelby Cobra kit car. Well whe she needs work done on her car, make the deal she has to be there helping
Excellent! I found an intake manifold from pull it yard on a 2008 4.7 cherokee and plan to install on my 2006 4.7 commander. when I got it home, I found small pieces of metal inside the manifold and I think I have them all out. Question: Can I submerge the manifold in water and flush it out to make sure there are no leaks and to get any additional junk out that might still be there? Pro's or Con's?
I flushed mine before I installed it with Purple Power but that was to remove any carbon and oil deposits. Sounds like the engine you got that from had a valve seat drop. That will cause the metal to go to all the cylinders through the intake manifold. If you have an inspection scope I would look inside the intake and make sure no metal particles are lodged into the plastic.
Just bought a 00 and just subbed
Congratulations and thank you.😎👍
Oh man, thank god I have a Dakota eh! Been a while since I've seen an old school DIY Dodge guy.
У мужика руки из нужного места ростут! Красавчик!
You are a awesome mechanic I recently bought a 2005 jeep grand Cherokee limited edition trail boss I payed 700.00 for it because it's overheating and they thought the rings were gone but I pulled the intake and the seals on the driver side were pressed in a lot more isn't that a sign that they tightened it to tight on one side
Fantastic video! In my case I have an egr valve on my 05 Ram. Therefore you will also need an 08 egr valve and tube. To make intake manifold work. As for map sensor I just bent fuel rail slightly. But your ideas for sensor is just as good if not better. I love my intake and 70mm tb. Get her tuned and you will be amazed!
Craig Heidelberger yes I'm very pleased with my intake and throttle body that I got on it right now which is not the one in the video. What did you do for a tuner?
Bought a Diablo sport tuner and used the software to send my tune file via email to a fella by the name of Jay Greene who knows how to computer tune. Im very happy and you will absolutely feel the difference.
Hey Craig I am also looking to do this with my 2005 dodge ram 1500 4.7. Where did you get your throttle body? If you could email with any info on the tune as well ryanbam101@gmail.com
I’m following your videos and this upgrade in particular I’ve been hearing about for years from Dakota drivers. I have a 2002 Dakota QC 4x4 with the 4.7engine. So I got an 08 intake from a Chrysler Aspen 4.7 and am in the process of cleaning it and fitting it. One issue arose that you touched on, but was confusing. The intake from the 08 Aspen didn’t come with the 8 double ended intake stud sleeves. Those 8 steel sleeves that get pounded into the perimeter of the intake to guide the studs down to bolt down the intake had to come from my stock intake. But your right. They don’t fit, except for 2 (1smaller one and 1 flat sided). An option is to drill out the other holes with a 1/2” bit ( IIRC LOL) and wobble the bit some to fatten it up on both ends. THEN, the sleeves will push down into the plastic most of the way and you can tap them in and reuse all your studs. One other thing is the PCV (NOT PVC LOL) set up. My intake came with a short PCV hose that connects to the intake and what looks like the same PCV you threaded into the drivers side head. So I’m getting that PCV (if UPS will stop losing it and deliver it) from your amazon link. So that’s a short run to that side of the engine. What about the other side? Can I just put a cone filter on the passenger side 5/8” pcv inlet? Or do I need to reuse some of the old tubing to run that passenger side pcv inlet to my double coned filter eBay intake? Does this passenger side even need vacuum also? BTW I’m going to be getting a oil fill hose WITHOUT the pcv valve in it and replace my stock one like you did that has it.
Hey Martin, been following for a few years now. Great work!
I have a 00 4.7, need to replace the intake manifold due to a broken MAP attachment point.
I’d like to swap it from an 02 HO however, WJJEEPS says the Cam shafts would need to be replaced together with the intake. That you cannot replace one without the other. Is this true? Am I better off to just grabbing the intake from a non HO? I’d like to not do camshafts is possible.
Thank you!
That is the first I've ever heard of that. Now for optimum performance you may want to run the ho cams with that intake. But I don't believe it is going to hurt you to run the ho intake without the cams.
Thank you for watching and subscribing all these years.
"Gonna be honest, it's a lot of work!!😨👍
but well worth it!
What I’ve learned from watching Martin, if he says it’s a lot of work, it’s going to be. But he still does it flawlessly
love your WORK BRO
Thank you I really appreciate that thank you for watching.
I love the videos and tha k you for sharing your knowledge. I have ordered the 08 intake manifold for my 02 WJ. I'm a little confused as to what hardware I will need to install it. Should I be looking for sleeves off of an 02 or 04?
Broke my ram's intake and can't find replacements that aren't $700 but i can find 08's and up so it looks like i'll be doing this and the TB upgrade if i can snag a TB from a junkyard.
I have one from my 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee if you're interested
@@martinbuilt intake? How much?
Would I have to program the compressor again if I remove it ?
Martin, where can you purchase the fuel hose that connects to the fuel rail, left side, that also connects just to the left of the transmission? Mine was broken during removal of the engine! I use to live in Veagas back in the 1980,s, loved the pick a part sites and videos!
I'm not sure where you would purchase that new I would recommend the pic-a- parts that's where I would go.. Vegas has changed a lot since the eighties if you haven't been here since you wouldn't even recognize it or know how to get around.
I've been here since late 93 and it has changed an incredible amount.
Hello, where did you get the throttle body adapter plate and bracket
This video is a bit of a cluster F, however I like the ingenuity and the home engineering. 8/10
how do you figure? you must be a cashier if you cant follow lol
Can you please tell me how you got that ground strap off your bell housing without taking the intake off?
Thanks Martin for all you do I took your advice and put on the 08 manifold on my 04 overland HO but the knock sensors hit so I tried to relocate him but I'm getting knock sensor codes where is a good place to relocate them thanks
I just tried both 08 and later intake manifold both fit with clearness as long as you turn the knock sensors straight back or slightly toward the cylinder head. Hope this helps.
Have watch your videos on your 04 WJ and incorporated many of the mods into my 04 WJ Overland 4.7 HO. Just finished my engine rebuild and installed the 08 cams and 08 intake off a Durango. I did not find a port for it on the intake I have. I built a port for the air temp in the PVC plug used to plug the EGR hole, seems to work. Where did you install the manifold temp sensor?
Hi thanks for your videos, do you have any video on crankcase ventilation maintenance on the 4.7 powertech engine? I have some problems with condensation in the oil filler tube
You're welcome, no I don't have a video on that mostly because I live in such a dry climate the problem doesn't exist. I did a little research on it and I did find this link that might be very helpful. dodgeram.info/tsb/2006/25-001-06.htm
Great video!!... Is there a different intake manifold from a different vehicle that would make it easier for us novices to install w/O having to drop the 2004 JGC 4.7 H.O freedom edition engine? Also do i need to order the custom part you made for the throttle body? And was this after you installed the 09 or newer camshafts from the durangos?
Thank you, There are some people that have been able to install the 08 and later intake without having to drop the engine most likely do to there Motor mounts being in poor condition. An HO engine is an HO engine no matter what model it comes from.
Yes you'll need to order the throttle plate adapter from someone that carries it like airram.com or I've also seen them on eBay now.
Yes I installed this intake before I ever did the 08 camshafts. I was running the HO Cam shafts at the time.
Lol nice work man. I got 07 and you made just the video I needed. TY buddy. BTW, you soft dad and cant keep a straight face with your goober!!
Glad I could help.
Absolutely fantastic video! Well done...
Thank you!
Would love to see before & after dyno numbers to see if this is worth it.
Believe me it's worth it I didn't need a dyno I could literally feel the difference.
Thanks Martin! Would the '08 air intake and cams work on my '99 as well?
Yes it will work on the 99 4.7
Thank you for watching.
Love your videos I wish you have a 5.9
I'm glad you like the content thank you for watching
Hey Martin do you have a link on where to get that adapter plate or do you build and ship some? Looking to do this on my 00 dakota
I have a quick question. I am grateful for your channel. I have a Jeep so, I look forward to upgrading like you do.
I over torqued the manifold intake bolt towards the front (right hand side, closes to the head light) and snapped the bolt in the head. Now, I took out the manifold intake to put in a new bolt in it's place but can't figure out how to get it off from the actual manifold, and is it possible without having to getting a new manifold? Thanks
Yes you should be able to drive that bolt out from the underside of the intake. Use a small deep socket and a hammer. Shouldn't take much effort.
Thank you, so much!!!
We’re all this work on an 05, dodge ram 1500 4.7 v8
Im going to do a install, but was there a hole in the back of your 08 intake manifold?
Thank ya sir. I have a 06 durango 4.7 an i wanna do the same thing. If it makes a big difference. Because I have a 66m turbo I was gonna stick on it. But don't want to blow it up lol.
Yeah, this intake manifold makes a huge difference compared to the factory original.
When I added the 75 millimeter throttle body that I built, it was very impressive.
Amazing channel man, was wondering if you could point me in the right direction on where the ho knock sensors are located?
adam25000 Jeep stuff thank you! there under the intake manifold. You probably didn't want to hear that.
So where were the knock sensors in this video...i didnt see them under the intake when u removed it...
@@CH-kk4rr i did noticed the same. NO knock sensors , hmm
Martinbuilt did you have to modify the side of the intake manifold where the throttle linkage goes? Could you show how you built the linkage bracket and throttle body adapter? Quality stuff from you as always.
Andrew Shealy
Didn't have to make any mods to the intake manifold at all. I don't have any video on the throttle cable bracket or throttle body adapter. Maybe someday I will do a video on that.
Great work. Did it improve the horsepower and if so, would you recommend changing the cams as well to match this improvement?
Yes it definitely improved horsepower and torque. I will be going with the 08 + cams as well hopefully soon. I have them already just finding the time to do the swap. And then I will me getting a flying Ryan tune

I’m going to be picking up my intake soon and I’m making my own throttle body adapter.do you think there will still be a pretty good gain with a factory throttle body on the 08+ intakes? Im doing the cams and injectors soon to pair with the intake.
yes, you will notice a definite improvement.
Good luck with your build.😎👍
So you only need to lower the engine temporarily to get the new intake in, and once that's done you can reinstall the factory motor mounts? You don't need new mounts that let it sit permanently lower?
yes just lower temporarily and depending on the condition of the motor mounts you may not have to lower the engine at all.
I had recently replaced the mounts which held the engine higher.
Guys. Your better off just buying a 2009-2012 4.7 . Rebuilt or used. 305hp 330trq.

Hey martin .. I just got done installing 08 + intake on my 04 overland... after seeing what you went through I was prepared to lower the engine but mine actually went in with no resistance... all I did was remove the weather Stripping and I got it in.. the intake I installed was Part # 53032761A1 and donor vehicle was a 2009 ram 1500.. maby the later ones were a little bigger? I have no clue.. but I did have a 1 problem and anybody in stalling 08+ intake on 4.7 H.O will have the same.. bank 2 knock sensor hits the bottom of intake and will prevent proper alignment of the intake.. so mine are now relocated to the outside of the block.. It's still like to know why mine dropped in and yours didn't...
It could be that your motor mounts are warm enough this causes the engine to set just low enough to get the intake manifold in. I had recently replaced my motor mounts and I think that is what the difference is.
I did install the newer 08 intake manifold and I do have knock sensors and had no problem installing it. The runners do look different on the bottom side from the earlier to later model intake manifolds. Thank you for the heads up.
Starting at 14:14 minutes of your video, you can see that you do not have knock sensors ... The HO engine has them under the intake manifold, but you do not have them in the video.
Thanks for this. Ran into a few issues. 3 manifold bolts snapped. 😔
I've never heard of any intake bolts ever snapping. The torque spec on though should be rather low.
Just looked it up it's a 105 inch pounds of torque not foot lbs just to be clear.
@@martinbuilt I had 1 of mine snap also and of course it was the last one of the passenger side
Well put video Martin. I was curious if this wuld wrk on a 04 durango 4.7l. Can I turbo it? Thx
Thank you, Yes it will work on your Durango 4.7. I would think you could turbo it.
Doing this swap on mine 1 question where do you relocate the air temp sensor this model doesn't have the same ?
Relocated into the air silencer Box or the Box or the air intake tube. You can also lengthen the wiring and relocate it to the air filter Box.
Nice work Randy Pobst.
Thanks ...who's Randy?
After I commented I had to Google and see who's Randy Pobst is I didn't realize he's a famous race car driver and much more.
Was this install done before or after the ho cam and solid lifter/lash adjuster install?
After the cams and lash adjusters.
Martin, I meant to ask, this is kinda backwards, but seeing the 08 intake fits older heads, I’m assuming that a 04 HO intake would fit a set of 08 heads. I guess what I’d like to know is, possible 08 engine in 04 WJ running on factory pcm, or even a 08 head/cam swap in the same jeep? I’m street car kinda guy and would love to get the power the 08+ Jeeps had
Yes, a HO intake would fit on a 08+ 4.7 engine.
And yes you could install 08+ heads and cams on an older 4.7
The 08 heads have larger intake and exhaust runners with the same valve size as the older 4.7
The 08+ heads do have a larger combustion chamber than the older 4.7
So you would lose some compression but increase the airflow with the larger runners. Check out this video where I cc the heads of an 08 head and an HO head. czcams.com/video/Bl8stV5VNvQ/video.html
@@martinbuilt would you think that 300ish Hp is obtainable with a head/cam swap or probably need a domed piston to regain some compression if not a lil more than oem compression
Just getting to this video, what is the company in Florida that makes the throttle body mount?
Airram.com
My question is, why? Whats the point of this? Im curious. Finally getting a 2nd WJ and will try to do mods for more power from the 4.7. My last 1 was also 4.7 but left it stock. Hoping there is a big bore kit, or other non power adder upgrades. Great video.
Well I can tell you after adding this 08 intake with the throttle body was the largest improvement in horsepower and torque out of any mod I've done so far.
I gained a lot from 3200 RPM and up with maybe a slight decrease in the bottom end.
@@martinbuilt Oh ok, cool. I was looking on some forums. 1 guy put a list of parts to put in the 4.7 to get a little over 300 hp to the wheels. Thats an improvement over stock. But I dont have any experience with that yet. When I get this Jeep, I have to focus on checking everything to be running right, before mods, but I really hope to be able to play with it. I will be checking out all your vids really soon. Have you denied your Jeep to get the power numbers yet? Looks great.
Hi Martin I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 , can you please tell me what parts off of a 2002 WJ 4.7 L high output I Should look out for at LKQ auto salvage?
The intake manifold is good but not as good as the 08, the camshafts, maybe the cylinder heads if your up to that and if you are building a performance engine I like the steel crankshaft.
Rebuilding my motor right now and planning on doing this as well as the HO upgrade...my question is this...do I have to use the plastic like PVC hoses? What if I use rubber hose? Will that cause any issues?
I think you'll be just fine using a rubber hose as long as it's oil resistant.
Well after trying for over a year to find a 2008/09 4.7 I finally came across one today...got the manifold...but the cams were fried
So can you tell me if this made enough difference or if it was moderate. I'm putting new 4.7 long block in mine and thought I'd do this - BUT just the parts to do this are almost as much as the whole install bill will be. at 500$ for just the intake, and then another 270 for the adapter!?! and 99 for a new 70mm TB... I'm wondering if its worth it? Thanks a bunch man!
It's a noticeable difference, but I wouldn't give $500 for the intake. Shop around, should be able to find a used one on eBay for around $150
@@martinbuilt Right - But the folks that are building my engine require a new one be installed or it voids the warranty. Of course I could do a used one and just clean it up real nice but thats not all together very honest. While not worried about them as much that Karma comes back around every time...lol. This might be the best tech video I've ever seen on You-Tube and I am with out question You-Tube certified... :-D
@@1badcj8 I was just cleaning a 08 intake this weekend. Then used an inspection scope to make sure everything checked out.
Yesser after looking at a few used ones on ebay and car-part I thought about doing that any way. What do you use to clean the inside, just blow it out or do you do any liquid in it?
@@1badcj8 funny you should ask I am working on the video for that. I used purple Power and a lint brush that you use to clean out dryer vents they're like 24 in Long. I pour straight Purple Power into it let it soak and then run the brush through the intake runners and rinse thoroughly.
So you only have to lower the motor on a grand cherokee? Ive got an 02 durango i wanna do this too.
yes, depending on the condition of the motor mounts. With old worn motor mounts the intake will go in without having to lower the engine to install the intake.
Hi there I have a 2006 Dodge Durango with the 4.7l, I'm kinda confused about the mounting sleeves, How many do I need of what size? thank you in advance.
5 of the ones with the small hole
