- Yunguilla Ecuador is home to amazing views and traditional Ecuadorian food that is difficult to find elsewhere in the country. It is a perfect Ecuador road trip, and along the way check out these spots.
Los Alamos in Naranjal is a bakery just on the side of the road on the way to Yunguilla valley and it is known to have some the best empanadas.
The empanada is actually super soft, almost like a pizza crust. I can see why this is one of the best places for empanadas in Ecuador.
Lácteos El Paso which is on the way to Yunguilla Valley. And we stopped here for yogurt and ice cream. In this region, there is probably eight billion dollars worth of gold below. And so Ecuador has kind of a not so great history of mining. Where mining companies, mostly from China and Canada, have come into different regions and have basically extracted what they wanted from the land, gave a little bit of opportunity and money to the community. But then left the land, basically destroyed
Here they learned from other regions and they do not want to give up their land, which is primarily dairy farming for the short term opportunity of gold and the promises that they know these mining companies are not going to keep.
Portete de Tarqui is a war monument, long history in Latin America, but basically, this one is for the war between Ecuador and Peru, which obviously no longer exists.
El Chorro actually doesn't mean waterfall, it means stream. And that's because there are so many big waterfalls in Ecuador that this is more like a stream. It's a 10 minute walk to this waterfall in Giron. Be sure to bring a rainjacket. Entry is $3 and money goes directly to the community.
La Fritada de la Union is a great spot for cascaritas and sancocho in Yunguilla Ecuador. Cascaritas are actually blow torched pork skin.
It has the texture of what it would be like if it were deep fried because it's very crispy but there's no oil added. It's just simply blowtorched. And so then you have this dish called sancocho is not like in Cuba or Colombia where it is a soup.
t's put into a large bronze pot and then it's cooked in its own pork lard. So, that is what we are here for. Cascaritas is like a pork chip. It's different than chicharron. It's almost like glass.
Sancocho is different than hornado. It's crispy on the outside. It almost has a little bit of a crust and then super tender in the middle. Hornado might be one of the most popular dishes in Ecuador. If you want to try something very traditional that you can't have anywhere, cascaritas and sancocho is definitely a dish you need to try.
Zafrah means sugarcane plantation and here you can try sugarcane juice, aguardiente, guarapo and mapanagua. It's a modern spot, which I like because it gives hope for continuing this tradition.
Cafeteria Sabor Oriental refers to the Orient in Ecuador. The owner here spent some time in the Amazon. We came for the bolon and for the yucca. Bolon is green plantain that has been mashed. On the interior you have cheese or also here you have fritada which is crispy bits of pork and of course you get salad.

Love Ecuador? You'll adore these Ecuador t-shirts: ecuador.myspreadshop.com/
My mouth is watering with the cascaritas. Enjoy more.
Cascaritas are the best
I'm impressed the Ecuadorians decided to value their land and people over short-term profits. All those views are so gorgeous!!
Ecuador really values nature and I think the country has been screwed over by so many foreign companies they've just become more savvy about the true cost of mining.
💛💛Awesome💙video♥️ 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽love them Mouth watering beautiful food We have been to 😍elChorro y Lácteos😋 must go back spots 🥳🇪🇨 certainly❣️thanks A lot for enjoying Ecuador and emphazing it’s very best👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Oh you've gone way back! Are you coming to the Q&A tomorrow?
@@ayngelina yes but I’ll be late I got to work
Hello i am an ecuadorian and love your videos

It is my greatest compliment when an Ecuadorian likes my videos.
Que rica empanada
El mejor!
I want the pork! Wow it’s so beautiful there! Keep showing us all the good food! I want to go to Ecuador!
So many great dishes here 😀
...you have a very good apetite ,I'll say👍...a had see dozens of vídeos of Ecuador, from other youtubers,..i have to say tours are the best...👍👍
Haha well traditional food is my passion and also what my website Bacon is Magic is about, I think the best way to show the culture of a country is through its food.
@@ayngelina totally agree with you,..thanks again for sharing such a beautiful places,..Ecuador sorpriced me with it's beauty, God bless you ,so you can keep traveling, and sharing your videos,...I understand now,..(the pig with wins 😁👍)
You are so so knowledgeable!
I wish. Andrés briefs me on each dish and then I communicate what I think people will find the most interesting.
I love your enthusiasm for the food, cant wait to taste in person.
So many incredible dishes.
@@ayngelina I will be starting my journey in Loja, have you ever been there?
@@highlanderabroad884 yes I have a video coming soon from Loja city and several in the province. It's an amazing spot to start.
@@ayngelina excellent, I look forward to seeing it....hopefully before I arrive on the 17th of October (hint hint). How much longer are you in Ecuador for?
@@highlanderabroad884 It will definitely be up by then. My mic broke while in Loja and so I have to record a voice over for this cooperative cafe in town but I'm doing that this week :) I'm here until Dec 6th. My 90 day tourist visa runs out so I'll go see my family for Christmas and will likely come back early January.
I had Sancocho in a form of a Soup. Sancocho de Pescado and Sancocho de res are one of favorites soups ever.
Yes i had completely forgotten about Ecuadorian sancocho so when Andrés said we were going for sancocho I said, like the Colombian soup? And later I realized pretty much every South American country has this soup. Whoops!
It’s all Good, but it’s Definitely worth trying when at the Coast too.
In Guayaquil and heading to Playas tomorrow for a night.
@@ayngelina Be careful in Guayaquil and on the coast basically.. The coastal region is a bit more intense than the mountains hehe
@@proyectonuevo7487 I spent five weeks in Canoa in 2013 and loved it but didn't go to Guayaquil because I was traveling solo. Thankfully this time I'm traveling with a local who has been to these spots before but I'm always looking for more recommendations if you have any.
Welcome aboard................I will be watching your videos....lots pf interesting stuff.
Thank you so much! Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like me to feature.
Yunguilla is the place i was born
You are so lucky, it is beautiful
Good luck..........
GREAT. ENJOY..in.my name .since I'm .out of my country
Que recomiendas en Yunguilla?
There is a soup called sancocho in Ecuador that is similar to the others in the Americas…
Yes you're right, although I don't think I've featured it in any of my videos yet.
@@ayngelina no…not yet…
This area was one we were considering to move to. I am really liking your food vids.
I really love Yunguilla. It has so many beautiful places.
I will let you know for sure.....you can start by answering questions about you,my dear....Hope to see that.....bye
Sure 😊what questions do you have?
The food looks so wonderful. Thank you.
I'm so glad you enjoyed?
What I like about your videos is that you explain the cultural history of the place. I am glad that you are so enthralled about eating pig, but a little goes very far for me. I am sure that if you emphasize a little more on non-pig food for the vegetarians and vegans out there, it would be great.
I hear what you are saying :) I do share traditional food and pork is a big part of the cuisine...and my website (my main job) is called Bacon is Magic. But I do feature a lot of vegetarian and vegan food there too as I love plant based dishes. However, if you check out my latest video on Cajas National Park I feature locro, which is a traditionally vegan soup and I mention that's why I wanted to share it :) Also I'm now on the Coast where there is lots of vegetarian based dishes like bolon and tigrillo, which is plantain, cheese (and egg).
I definitely want to try the blow-torched pork skin
One of my new favourite things 💜
No te preocupes.
Gorgeous views. Thanks for sharing this. Looking forward to the next one
Tomorrow morning!
@@ayngelina I anxiously await. I think you are getting me hooked on Ecuador. Lol
@@davecherrington2638 that's my plan
@@ayngelina ahhh. I see
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS IN THE BEAUTIFUL ECUADOR.
Thank you so much, it is such an amazing country.
Lindo yunguilla y muy buena comida
Me encanta Yunguilla!
So is it ok to have drinks with ice outside of Cuenca?
Yes they are made with purified water in restaurants as Ecuadorians don’t drink the water either.
Did you see big spiders in Yunguila????????? ❤
No have you?
Hi! What music do you have playing in the background around minute 5:45?
I can't remember exactly which song that is but I get all my music from Epidemic Sound. It's a subscription service I pay for.
Where was Day 2? Cannot find 😂
Day 2 ? This was just a day trip.
Its on me to eat in puerto moro
Oh where is Puerto Moro?
