That's like driving across the Nullabor in Australia-there's one highway, the 1000mi long Eyre Hwy, which is the main route from the west side of Australia to the East. Along that highway you're normally travelling upwards of 130mi between petrol stations.
A simple google search for "driving across nullabor petrol stations" will bring up a whole host of travel guides saying something along the lines of “You should never drive past a petrol station on the Nullarbor unless you know how far the next one is and you are sure that you can make it. Petrol stations are generally 200kms apart, but you should check this on the Fuel Map App to ensure you don't leave yourself stranded.”

That's a complete vacation experience. Maybe that's part of what makes your podcast so compelling. It's so refreshing in a world full of flakes and phonies (thanks hollywierd) to see real people with whatever foibles or flaws they may have doing real things encountering some of the joys as well as challenges shown for all to see rather than being galvanized in approved narrative as everything is today, forcing 'herd think' on the part of the viewers. I am continually amazed by the level of skill that goes into your recovery work, and also 4-wheeling skill, as exemplified in this video.
I'm a contented 2-wheel drive-r and after getting stuck in sand a few times on my adventures, I now tend to back out of dirt roads real quick if they get the slightest bit sketchy. I am happy on heavily traveled, highly maintained dirt roads. At the same time, I'm aware that even if I had the 4-wheeling skill and the rig to try to tackle rough roads, I would not have the interest in this, because to me it seems like a lot of work, stopping, figuring out how you're going to negotiate a tricky stretch, picking a line, perhaps failing a few times and quite possibly sustaining some damage to the vehicle in the attempt. That's not what I want to be doing on vacation. I'd much rather park my vehicle near the blacktop, and get out and go for a long hike, which would not require any of this mental work, and would feel physically exhilarating in a way that I couldn't obtain by driving.
But I do certainly see the attraction of putting your 4-wheeling, mechanical maneuvering and other mental skills and extensive vehicle knowledge to task with your recovery efforts, because you get to do work that is also fun in the outdoors. Hard to beat that!!

Got kind of freaky with little cell service and almost completely deserted roads. We slowed down to 30 mph to conserve gas. Needle was on E for 1/2 an hour! We finally limped into a open station on fumes.
Moral of the story: always carry a full emergency gas can, good walking shoes (bicycles are even better!) and lots of water!!

We filled up (14 gallons) plus two jerry cans in Placerville, drove to the 'Con, up that big mountain the long way into Wentworth springs, wheeled, fished and camped for 4 days. Drove the actual Rubicon trail for 2 days, about 20 hours of drive time and finally towed my cousin's broken yet 'built Jeep' up Cadillac hill. A true 'Yota moment' captured on film! That alone was worth a long walk and I'll never let him forget it! Haha!
