- Got a call from someone who had gone in camping before a snowfall and had been gotten stuck due to the storm being worse than expected. So we went in and tried out the new tire chains. They worked awesome and made quick work of pulling the 2WD van out. Then a little discussion between me and the guys about us. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

I’m putting all my money on Rory at the wreck her Olympics.
Edit: just after Rory started his shop I was in Moab with my first ever jeep with my wife and two kids. I broke my steering box on the first trail first mile. It was catching randomly enough just to nurse it off the Fins and into town. It literally stopped working in his entrance. I had called a friend to see where to take it. He told me your place. Since I was along way from arizona and a it was a weekend. Getting parts was impossible until Monday and then it was going to take time to get it there and install. Rory sourced a steering box from another jeep took it out of that one and installed it. He had us back on the road in a few hours. We were able to enjoy the rest of the day out on the trails and were able to stay over and ride 1/2 of Sunday before driving home to Phoenix area. I still have that steering box and I’ve not had any issues with it at all. Rory was super kind to stop whatever he was doing and took the time to take care of me and my family. He lent us his vehicle to go get my kids lunch while he fixed my jeep. What you see on this channel is the real deal. Rory is super kind, funny and took the time we would be safe and to make sure we could finish enjoying our time in Moab. I asked him what would have happened if I Cournoyer get my jeep off the trail myself? He laughed and said, “ oh I would got you off, it just would have cost you a lot more. Lol”. Thank you again Rory for what you did that day, you are a good man.
Only way Rory loses is if comfort and amenities are a consideration. Put some windows and some real doors in the thing.
Rory is the favorite, but I have been a fan of Eric and the BSF Recovery Team wreck for 8 or 9 years, so I’ll have Eric’s hat and t-shirt on at the wrecker games.
Matt's going to break. New rig and it is showing some weak points. Fab Rats is completely unknown. I don't think BFG is at all built for the rocks. OK, going with Rory. Now who wants to try and take some of my money?
I like all the people who are entered so it should be a great time. Wish I could be there in person but funds just won't allow it. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe time there.
Matt deff has a bad ass rig that once sorted should trump trailmater.. That being said Rory has a ton more seat time and refinement with hs rig. Matt still has quite a few more bugs to workout and improvements to be made. I think once the heavy wrecker is sorted it would be hard to touch lot of good parts into his rig for sure. Guy vs guy they both have a lot of experience and from the videos I've seen of both it would be a toss up between the two given similar rigs and simular seat time in that rig. I wish I could attend the wrecker games but I'm to broke for all that should i start a go fund me? lol I'm kidding about the go fund me part.
Also plot twist fab rats or merlin tows rory and matt back to their trailers. hahahaha would that be a hoot to be towed back "home" by the sorta under dogs at least from what I've seen.

It’s fun watching 3 guys getting along doing a great job, not everyone could deal with the stress and conditions your put into doing these recoveries. It’s alarming how many people are not aware how quick things go bad and not prepared, your crew are literally life savers in your area of expertise and knowledge of the trails, and driving. i wouldnt call them life savers, but they do save the search and rescue teams from having to deploy. it is cool to see the friendship and teamwork amongst the dozen or so channels. the benefit of filming is that they can edit out moments of frustration and anger, so just cuz we never see them upset doesnt mean they are never upset. they are humans after all

We are all responsible for the creation of new lives as well. (Regardless of your personal involvement in such.) Every life effects another... Every. Single. One. Even yours.
(Don't allow yourself to be thought-constricted into believing that the only life that matters is human...)
Think its amazing how unprepared people there are, try pulling people(non tourists) here(interior/norther Alaska) out of the ditch and off trails... thats what amazes me.
Mike you realize that it is only because you capture such good angles for the videos that Rory makes you stay out there running in the deep snow so much of the time!
The snow collecting on the back of the wrecker made TrailMater look like a cake with white frosting. The only reason Rory covered that back window opening was because the snow was starting to cover the SnapOn wrench shifter levers!
Getting established requires the skills and the crew to repeatedly succeed in each job. You all keep proving this while having great attitude and no hype! No BS claims, just results! And some fun thrown in there!
Yeah, I am gonna' love watching Rory give a training clinic in the Off Road Wrecker Games. My dark horse pick for 2nd place is the other well seasoned team (Eric and the BSF wrecker).

Utah native here, grew up in the Salt Lake area, remembering as a youngster how cool it was to go to Moab! The 2 gas stations, 3 restaurants and single grocery store! Boy Scout trips to Elephant Hill and Salt Creek in the Family Suburban! Being able to wheel Cain Creek in a stock Toyota pickup with 31" tires! Camping just about anywhere you wanted, and not seeing anyone for day's ! Riding dirt bikes on Slickrock before anyone even knew about it! Miss those times, but still can't stay away for to long!!
You guys are awesome! The highlight of 2023 so far was meeting you guys at the expo last week. I saw Shawn (sorry if that's not how you spell your name) when I was coming in and got to shake his hand and asked him where to buy tickets, he didn't know. Then I met Rory , freakin awesome down to earth guy! Mike was busy with a fan but I got to shake his hand before I left. It was kinda surreal. I watch you guys all the time on my phone and TV but was way cool to actually interact with you guys.

I watch all your off road recovery competition and you have the best( most difficult) recoveries and the best tow rig.
The stick shift is awesome and your transfer case to control front and rear drive is awesome.
Shawn made me laugh. We all point with our Lips instead of with a finger. Shawn is always in a laughing mood that's what so cool about him. Us Native's have good humor and like to tease each other and have fun. I'm from Wisconsin also and live on the Menomonee Indian Reservation. Lived here most of my life. I also lived in Milwaukee WI also. Good to see co workers have fun together and laughing.
Seems like Natives all over Canada do too. Neat to know.
Your camera work is incredible, I love the big scenery shots, you truely are in God's country down there, it's stunning to see. I loved how Trail Mater so effortlessly cruized through that deep snow and very impressed with those chains. I love your channel, your humor, banter and just great energy. I just want to say that I discovered Fab Rats which led to Merlin, Robbie and of course the red headed step child Matt. The Cheeze heads are great too but Rory you and your shenanigans are the best. It just reminds me of things that go on at our shop. I love it. Keep doing your thing. They don’t stand a chance in the Tow Truck Games.
I really enjoy you googans. I was paralyzed 3 years ago and believe it or not I’m learning how to walk again after totally paralyzed. I have terrible nerve pain but you have helped me pass some really tough times. You guys give us something that is real tv. I love it. I’m pulling for YALL 😏

I’m so sorry you had been paralyzed. But God bless your recovery. I was a 240lb guy till I got Maxillofacial surgery because of horrible sleep apnea. My face is still numb because it takes a month to regrow 1mm of nerve in my face. I lost 70LBS and feel like a young man again. I’m 60 and working hard and working out. Praise God for the intervention because I was about to a stoke out because of the lack of oxygen. I was choking out every 60 seconds! Now my air way is like a freeway. All my ailments went away after the surgery. I want to make my 82 ford city dump 4 wheel drive. I love that truck although it tops out at 65.

What great scenery Utah has! Miles and miles of flat snow covered desert with tall snow covered mountains in the distance and canyons with centuries of rock layers scattered here and there to vary the scenery. I wish I could travel so I could see it all in person.

Y’all are a breath of fresh air believe it or not. I’d love to sit around that wood stove they installed and talk a bunch of sht. Haven’t even watch the video of the install yet but that’s where I’m headed now. I’ve told y’all thanks for the videos before but thanks again.
X-Bar chains are the best for serious snow and ice. Yours are the easy ones to find and easy to put on. When we lived in the mountains and had to deal with it every winter, sometimes from October to May I got tired of breaking them. So got a set of very serious X-bar chains that had 3/8" chain, double the amount of crossbars and each chain weighted 40 pounds. Had to put them on and drive back and forth several times and then tighten them up. Went through snow deep enough to come up over the hood. Then put on a snowplow that came from a dump truck, heavier than a standard pickup plow by 3 or 4 to 1 weight of plow. Worked like a charm. Heard you bad mouth Fords. Mine was a 76 F-250 with heavier weight option when bought. Replaced engine with a bored out 390 Police Interceptor with a high torque Isky camshaft, 10.5 ratio compression. Kept up easy with several 454 Chevys of crazy friends. Moved to flatlands after forest fire burned us out and sold truck to a great son of a great neighbor and he loves it will living and worked in Grand Junction. Also F-250 had heavier springs installed to 11,750 pound capacity. It was a great old Ford and also was driven coast to coast. Love your CZcamss everyday. Keep'em rolling!!!

Q&A: What advice would you give to folks off-roading for the first time in the Moab area? What trail is great for views with a minimum of upgrades to your average 4x4? What trial would best be avoided by anyone without a "buggy" or "Wile-E"? Are there any companies or organizations that host trail crawls that folks book a spot on and show up on a date to do a trail?

When I was young I loved to play and work in the cold ,ice and snow. By mid 40s I started changing as arthritis pain started. Now over 70 I live to be by a nice fire and look through a window at the ice and snow . The only good thing about being cold is getting warm 👍

Spectacular views and good to understand some of your history.
Thanks again for showing how easy it is to insure success by putting tire chains on. I see so many people, both local and those in on off-road videos, where they go places where they know they can get stuck, and they don't carry tire chains. Is it a macho thing, to die not having chains? And too, the trick is to let the chains do the work, not the gas pedal. I don't go to the extreme your customers do, but I go alone mostly, so I'm ever watchful of my situation and my ability to get out of it. I carry tire chains, two hand winches - both with synthetic rope. Plus other ropes, chains, cables, pulleys, snatch blocks, and shackles. Heavy steel stakes for anchors if there are no rocks or trees, a big hammer, and a shovel. I never have far to go to get unstuck. Because I pay attention, so I don't have to spend all day getting unstuck.
Not carrying tire chains where you know you might get stuck, is like not carrying extra water on a hot day, on a long trek through a desert where you've never been before. Too many people go places in the snow unprepared. I know of several local people who died because they went beyond a road closure, and got stuck. People died only because they were not prepared for where they went. One woman was saved by a local rancher who saw the fresh tire tracks going in on a dead-end road. He first found the man who had tried to walk out for help. He was dead. The farmer went on following the tracks. He found the stuck vehicle. He saw foot prints heading off in a wrong direction. He followed them, and came to an abandoned cabin. There he found a woman without proper clothing. She had tried to start a fire, but couldn't. She was barely alive. but he got her to the hospital.
Another death was a woman, a county employee. Ironically she was a safety officer. She was headed home, but the main highway was closed. She took another highway and then tried a shortcut back to the first highway. But it was closed too. The same closure as the first incident. She went beyond the closure and got her Jeep stuck. She decided to try to walk the shortcut to the first highway, and safety. She didn't make it.
People who have never done it, don't understand how tiring it is to walk in deep snow. You can't go anywhere near as far as you think you can. The cold overtakes you in the end.
I've been in such circumstances. I once rode a bus to a lone intersection. I expected to be met by someone with a car. They didn't show. I had to walk 6 miles. It could have been easy if someone, anyone, would have come along and given me a ride. There was no traffic. It had been a warm day. I was in shirtsleeves. I realized right away the danger I was in. All I could do was to keep walking. My bare arms were totally numb from the cold, but I made it.
Another time I had gotten a ride to town from a ski resort. But I had to work early the next morning, so I changed my mind. I had them let me out in a blizzard, to walk back. They didn't want to leave me, but I said I had to go back. I thought I could make it easy. I thought to head cross country to save time. But I realized the snow would be a lot deeper going cross country. I probably wouldn't make it. I stayed following the road. The wind was blowing so hard the snow stung my face. I had to walk with my back to the wind. Looking forward every few steps to keep me headed properly. I barely made it. When I got inside the ski resort, friends didn't recognize me. I was covered head to toe with snow. They could only see my eyes. I learned from those two incidents, to not let myself get into such situations ever again. I'm here to tell you, I have never again risked my life doing such foolish things. I always go prepared.
Neat look into the histories there! My question is, do you guys have one recovery that stands out above the rest? It could be from how sketchy it was, how much fun yall had, how difficult it was, or maybe it's a recovery that taught you a valuable lesson!
Bonus question, how often do you guys get over halfway(or all the way) to a recovery only to find out that the customer got themselves out? Those of us who watch MORR have seen it a few times, I imagine it is incredibly frustrating.

G'Day Rory, Did you at any time have any other employees other than Sean and Mike. The three of you seem to hit it off so well and I've yet to see any ego's at play, any nasty sarcasm or the like. You guys just seem to click and pull as a team all the time, every time. It's pretty cool. You all come on as upfront, chilled blokes doing what you love and having a blast and I wonder if there were guys who tried out , but didn't cut it - it would take a special mindset to do what the three of you do so well together - get folks outa trouble - and have a blast whilst you're at it. Very impressive and very reassuring, cos that's what the three of you not only portray, but actually bring to the table. You guys carry on and have fun, but the professional part's of you are always at work, ensuring people's well-being and safety. You guys are so cool - you define it, really. Keep on truckin'!

I drove up Shafer Canyon in a Tahoe and was a bit scared . Would be like a walk in the park to Rory. You have built an amazing vehicle

On a total number basis, I'm going guess Jeeps because there seems to be millions of them everywhere. What about a percentage basis. I'm going to guess vehicles that had no business being where they were or can't forecast weather. Everyone seems to rag on Toyotas a bit in the state it seems. In Australia they're pretty much top of the pile. Cruisers are everywhere!
Thought for you…
With no doors on that and winter rescues you might consider getting heated seats as an easy install for some sort of warmth especially on longer cold jobs.
Get the ones that also have the cold option for the hot summer rescues and it would be a major comfort upgrade that should be bolt in out of a wrecked newer pickup.🤔👍

I have always loved pulling people out of the snow,mud,or just stuck in the Mountains. It would be my dream job to be a toe truck operator. Especially doing off road recoveries. I bet any amount of money I could get in Any one of your guys's tow trucks. Get the job don safely and efficiently and I have never ran a tow truck. Last Winter I pulled some kind of dodge car out of the ditch in 2' of snow There was a cop on scene and told me That my car wouldn't do. I pulled down in the Ditch with a 4' toe strap pulled the car up the embankment back on to the road. Proving that cop wrong put the biggest smile on my face.

I almost moved out to the 4 corners area several years ago but my job transfer ended up going in another direction.
This question is for Shawn, when I was visiting that area regularly, I met a lot of Navajo and noticed that the common surnames were Yazzie and Begay, is this true?
Wonderful to see Trail Mater as good in snow as in the hot desert. Not so many truck wreckers can do that and the scenery is unbelievably gorgeous! Oh and also loved the back story on your guys. Great stuff.
