The car got his problems, like the low payload in the 600, but that wasnt bad quality, it was just because of its heavy engine.
i buy an old 600 last week (in memory of my younf years i owned several w140) i found a beautiful S600 L of 1993 ..a buy it immediatly (for replace my AUdi A8 with quantity of failures)
i am 24 and i drive a W210 E200 K for 5 years ....but from when i was 12 i dream the W140 ...when i seee for the first time a W140 i remained with no words......sorry for my bad english ......mercedes it's the best

But I have major problem, now my w140 is already in shop because over heating when I stuck in traffic jam, so now my mom very upset because it only 1 week from I bought and it's broken, so now my mom tell me she gonna sell my sweetie w140, and change it to Japanese car again....I hate Japanese car!! It's not worth it for me!! Do you have advise to maintenance old mercedes?? Because many people compiling it get easily broken...please help me....so I can stay with my mercedes for last forever....😢😢

Over engineered indeed. For a 1980-1990 car, the offset crash was near modern day standard in maintaining body structure. And the technologies in the car in that timeframe was amazing.
this vid brings back memories of my old 1994 S500. It was my first Mercedes and my one true treasure. It was the safest car ive ever owned and also the most reliable. What a tank-car. It looks ugly now but back then it was the best looking thing on the road hand downs. I will always remember this car :)

That's why it's hard to believe that princess Diana died from that crash.. the car looks like it's been in a bad accident, that's it.. not a fatal one. Anyone seeing the car would not think it was fatal, especially for back seat passengers.. weird
I have a 2005 S 500 4Matic,I had a 2000 before that I also had an 1983 diesel,I think my 05 is the best one I've owned but if you are talking about the 2012 model I agree and have no desire for one.
Ein Auto was seiner Zeit definitiv derbe voraus war heute fällt er kaum auf wenn man mal einen sieht was ja immens selten geworden ist eben - wenn man heute ein Ford Mondeo nur sieht der sieht doch auch schon wuchtig genug aus z.B. - Diese S-Klasse W - 140 war von den Sitzen eine Wucht Megabequem vor allem die Coupe Einzelsitze im Fond es war ein völlig anderes Raumgefühl als im W - 124 und dennoch hatte die Optik eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit mit der damaligen Mittelklasse nur eben nicht böse gemeint nun als aufgepumpte Version aber eben sehr viel mehr Luxus und Technik (Can Bus u.a.) !!!! ....

w220 and w221 S classes are good too, mine uncle have w221 S320 cdi, and it passed 300k kilometers, and when u start it up, u can clearly say that is new car, u will never say that car passed that much, just u need to hear how that engine works :) btw i own w126 500se, i mean, S class was always been and will always been best car in the world...
She (and Fayid - however you spell that) died because they were not wearing seatbelts. The belts are why her security guard ( in the FRONT SEAT no less ) survived. Not sure about why the driver died. With this being said, Mercedes, BMW and Volvo are kickass cars specifically in the safety department. Have personally owned these cars. My Volvo saved my ex-wife's life (collision @ 50+ mph). No injury other than shoulder pain and airbag chafing.
But i Still tinking a 65mph crash is so slow to died like they died. Today popular cars crash at 100mhp and i see cases that People still alive. I feel really insecure about buy some w140, even loving them I
Didnt you hear the speed it was doing? Around 200kph from what i heard. Show me a car that will keep anyone safe at that speed when it hits a reasonable large solid object.
This car is great i have drive it but i dont owen it, i have drive 500S, and i have drive BMW 740IL, i think BMW more sporty and Daynamics, and better handiling,and i also found that mercedes 500s is more comfortable and silent, and the vibration level is alittel pit less than BMW, But mercedes W140 dosent have navigation system and TV screen, like BMW, the accelration of both car is simler
