Front Door with Sidelight Replacement - Masonite FAIL

- I ordered a replacement door with sidelight from Masonite last fall. Because of covid (so they say) it took far longer to deliver than expected and winter had arrived. So I found some time last week to finally install it, and having never done this before prepared myself for a challenge and lots of difficulties... Well, I wasn't disappointed. Masonite left me a nice surprise right for the end :(

Quick question... When you received your door, was the door able to close flush without any wobble? Or was it not able to close flush because it wasn't sturdy enough yet because it wasn't secured into the studs?
Precisely. I think any prehung door (door in a frame) won't close right in its frame until it's installed plumb level and square to everything around it. Those frames are very flexible, so it all needs to be set just right before the door will close properly. That's my experience anyway.
Hi there! I just wonder how wide your new door is? I can't decide between 34 and 36 inch. If I go with 36 will it make my sidelight too narrow? Thanks
In my case it was a 36"... And it was a while ago now but I want to say my rough opening was 53 or 54".
What did you do with the shims? Just cut them flush?
Yep right. I used my oscillating tool. The trim will then sit flush against the frame and all is hidden.
I dunno Steve . When that door falls out in about a year from now I'm pretty sure you'll be regretting not having paid a contractor thousands to have it installed properly 😢
