    Gerald - your son makes you work on Father's Day -- I would charge him triple time!! ;-)
    I worked for my dad from 13 yrs to 32 yrs old when he sold the company. He was fair but expected me to do more than most so I gave extra effort/time and it payed off.
    Love the videos - keep it up!!

    Thanks Josh for posting. Replacing my twin front doors with a single pre-hung with side lights. Opening is 68 5/8" x 83" and I believe with the 36" x 80" I need 63 1/4"x 83" for the opening, so there has to be some framing I guess. Since there is brick on top and sides, top actually has a 3x8" steel cross plate. Just hoping we don't run into any problems.

A chunk of wood was removed from the rear of the deadbolt striker plate and now I need to be able to repair/replace the jam, just not sure how and not interested in replacing the whole door if I don't need to. If I was you. I would put 2- 2x4 across the frame so you can free hands from outside. Then go inside put 4 blocks to hold the door in place. The adjust the Door without holding the door.

  • @darrensayer5116
    @darrensayer5116 Před rokem +1

    Never caulk nail or screw holes as caulk shrinks and you will see holes after painting... use silocone under the threshold, not liquid nails.... If you do not have a good over hang above the door, set the door in a pan first... Do not shim the jambs from one side as this can twist the jambs, shim equally from both sides...

I just did one of these double side light doors yesterday for a replacement……floor was all rotted under the old door…..repairing that and making sure the door was level,plum and straight was a ABSOLUTE PAIN IN THE ASS ……the door weights a half a ton ….to anyone planning on replacing an old double side light door that’s rotted on the floor you better plan the weekend

      @@jessecruz9641 yes I’m sure it’s a standard size door measure it up and run to home depot . ….just make sure sure that the sidelights aren’t rotted or even showing signs of age (which I’m sure they are) or you’ll be having to replace in the future…..a double side light door will run you on the cheap and ugly side about 1100$ and they go all the way up to 5k 😳( I know I couldn’t believe it either) ….I went with a door that was about 1600$ and the pan and trim and all the other shit like caulk , said and done about 2k per door …I replaced two in my house ….I replaced one and then the other one we had stood out like a sore thumb …I just had to replace it …it was driving me nuts looking at it
