- Need to paint some aluminum trim? Here are some tips and tricks that I have found to be helpful for a good results.
First, use Rust-Oleum Professional Series Aluminum Primer

Second, use a proper respirator while painting. Organic Vapor cartridges are what you will need for painting.

Thank you for your recommendations and video presentation. It was very helpful. Even though you did not offer alternative procedures, you were very clear in your presentation. And the experience you have had with results was very helpful.
Thanks for the video! Bottle label suggestion: placing a piece of clear packing tape over the writing will help protect it from the alcohol.
Best video I’ve watched, thank you for the detail.
Very informative. Thank you for posting this video.
Great pointers! Thanks!
Awesome vid. Try Brother P-Touch labels for labelling PP dispensers containing IPA or acetone. The adhesive is really flexible and stands up to the solvents well. Since the text isn’t ink based, it doesn’t wear off.
Got one after I did this video. They work great. Thanks for the suggestion.
Your idea is better than mine using duct tape
That’s a topic well covered
thanks man helped me heaps
Great Mate....Thanks
Great info on doing the job and getting successful results !
Wow, exceptionally valuable video.......if you try to find out the process (from prime to finish coat), there are poor instructions on Rustoleum cans! Thank you!!
For labeling dot-dot-dot it's an exacto knife and some fluorescent duct tape and cut out the name of the product or the molecular formula of the solution and stick it to the bottle. 😉👍
I didn't realize there was a special primer for aluminum and I definitely like the minimal overspray. Got a link for the respirator?
Best wishes,
Tom Z
I have links in the description for the body, and the cartridges. I like the MSA since that is what I have used as a firefighter for years, but check and see what your local welding shop stocks and I would go with that brand just for ease of resupply. I have particulate filters and the organic vapor and they are great. Thanks for checking out the video.
You have a hurricane going off in the back ground? Thanks for the video..
Good tips.
what If i want to dip the aluminum inside a solution that has color ? would it be okay
Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching Scott.
Thank you for the great tips!
Is the house roof still on? That wind is gusting like mad :)
6:07 - “respirators are like $8 bucks...they’re practically disposable.”
COVID-19 - “Hold my drink.”
sounds like a hurricane outside the building.
Sir ,Is Aluminium paint is resistance with water. That is it will bear the water resistant. ~
I want to repaint my aluminum kitchen cap board. What color would you advise me to use . thanks
Pink
I'm painting a 6061-T6 Aircraft Aluminum fuel door for my 2005 f150. I'll try this primer but what flat black paint should I use over this primer? Also how would you recommend I clean the fuel door first without scratching it?
can you paint aluminum without etching prime ?
should I chromate or use acetone
Could you link to the squirt bottles, please. Great video.
They are 20 years old. I have no idea who they are from. Thanks for watching.
Do you need to sand brand new aluminum or can you just put the primer on and then the paint? Just got new running boards for my truck and the underside is just bare aluminum I want to protect them more thanks
Protect from what? Aluminum doesn't rust
@@allanragnarson7898
It does oxidize, but the oxide layer is impermeable to oxygen, so a thin layer "rusts" preventing further rusting.
In his instance, I imagine that he is protecting it from road debris like gravel and salt, which together can pit the aluminum.
At the very least, the debris can remove the shine from polished aluminum.
I'm looking to find a high gloss pearl white paint that color shifts to electric blue only with no purple or other colors?
Also, I am seeking a pearl silver that color shifts to black pearl?
Is it okay to spray paint alluminum without the primer?
I didn't, and I wouldn't. The method that I showed has held up great for about 5 years now. Good luck with your project.
@@r.j.sworkshop7883 These are going indoors also, so outdoor stuff would probably start showing wear pretty quickly.
wow, costs of things have gone up a lot in the last 4-5 years
I love wind
how to remove the paint from aluminium? I am having difficulties to remove the paint from aluminium :(
paint stripper, or wire brush
Heat gun works, but is slow going as aluminum transfers heat very well.
But, that also means it is forgiving and localized.
If you use wire brush or wheel make sure to use one with stainless steel bristles. You don't want to embed another material into the aluminum.
I like the prices from 2017...
Your putting more trust in a brand name, than more proven product like etching primer or epoxy primer. one time i thought rustoleum high pro paint was recommended as it says its for masonary use, but it is not, & the hard finish cracks & peels off quickly compared to plastic or flex paints. also many reviews suggests very low quality failure of the specific labeled rustoleum etch primer, so use something good or mid class like Dupi etch primer with a mask, its temporary acidic. oil paint is fine unless it going through exstreams of expansion & contraction. a scotch pad & abrasive/powder or vinagear realy removes oxidazation before primer. neutralize vinegar or acids before painting, can use alcohol, but its not a great grease removal substance by it self.
You said: I don't know, so I want to offer helpful advice. its all about the next highest level for a painter, or maybe not.
All I can tell you is that I used this exact product and procedure 5 years ago on the same vents on a different building, and they look like they did the day I installed them. Low cost, simple procedure and excellent durability for my application. I am very happy with it, and I am glad that I used it again for this project.

Can i use rubbing alcohol to clean surface
Those primers are almost $10 at Home Depot now 😁
Not even sure if that was the primer..
or maybe its the fan
Label it...even though I don't do that...Read the Directions....I don't read the directions though....
"Safety idiot"..... nice
Aluminium....
You talk about so much about other thing and not about the actually panting
What this video needs is more talking.
Ugh. Just couldnt make it to the point where you actually painted something.
Too much distracting nervous motion and extraneous information that is not necessary - e.g., labels. Who cares?
It is allot better than all of the videos that you have contributed to the world, oh wait, you have been too busy complaining to make any. Thanks for watching.
