I find it so funny how this has gone from a series where thomas just expresses how he feels, to a literal lore filled series where he still gets to express his feelings but leaves us questioning things, despite the fact that it’s literally just his emotions, well done thomas sanders you managed to make a fandom out of literally personified emotions

  • @magisketch1

I kinda want orange to seem docile at first, he would feed off of the sides rage until it is too late. Like being “blinded by rage” as you guys said. The dark sides seem to have a nice trait, Janus seems to use his lies and deceit to aid in his stories but that can sometimes benefit Thomas and Remus even though he is kinda dark thoughts and dark creativity he has a dark sense of innocence like how most of his supposed evil acts seem childish. So I think orange may be a chill and calm being that pushes people to what causes them rage and feeds off it, it could also fit into the sloth behavior too by having him eat or relax until it is time to release the rage.

    • @PickYourPoison
      @PickYourPoison  Před 3 lety +15

I like this idea - the concept of him being super chill at first and suddenly lashing out is definitely something we’ve discussed.

  • @justsomeguywithamustache4664

I kinda feel like his name might be Brutus.
In the story Brutus lashes out and kills Julius Caesar because he's angry and thinks Julius is a bad king. Later Brutus kills himself because of the guilt he feels

Fun idea: Rage possesses Logan in a Jekyll and Hyde sort of way. So, when Thomas is too angry, his logic is literally consumed by rage. The two fight for control, with Logan managing most of the time to keep him repressed.

    • @PickYourPoison
      @PickYourPoison  Před 3 lety +13

@@PickYourPoison imagine this then. Your setup. Nico cheating on Thomas. When Logan is summoned, we cut to his room, where he fights a transformation, although we cut away before anything big happens. When Roman freaks out, the others react in fear as Roman calms down, saying "I don't know what came over me". Virgil says "I do". He looks at Logans spot. Rage stands there. "Hello boys. Been a while". The episode explains that Rage is a repressed side of Logan, who keeps him contained, but in high stress situations, he is able to get out. Logan fights for control still, to the point that Rage says Falsehood. At the end, Logan regains control, explaining that Rage will likely come back, as hes very hard to contain for long once let loose.
The name reveal happens a few episodes later. Rage is arguing with the sides, who find a nerve. He hates being compared to Logan. The sides pressure him until Thomas asks "why do you hate Logan". Rage explodes.
"Because of him, I'm locked away. I don't know what's going on. Its blackness. He repressed me to the point that you changed more than I ever expected. One of you even switched while I was gone. I couldn't tell. Everyone treats me like I'm a cancer. A disease infecting your logic. I know you hate me. Why have boring old Chronus, when Logan is around? Well, I'm here. Deal with it."
Thomas comments on the name. Rage realises what hes said. Angry, he leaves, forcing the sides to go to Logans room the next episode to find a balance between the two.

  • @codex_jinora

There's one question that still bothers me, though.
Roman - creativity - hopes and dreams
Logan - logic - reason and sanity
Patton - morality - sense of right and wrong
Virgil - anxiety - vigilance and protection of oneself and loved ones
Janus - deceit - self preservation
Remus - dark creativity - self indulgence and self accountability
What purpose would rage serve within the system?

    • @PickYourPoison
      @PickYourPoison  Před 3 lety +69

I think rage would probably be Thomas’s self defense more than anxiety is - as much as Janus and Virgil to an extent help with self preservation, rage would be a more active protection. A side that represents rage could also be in charge of self regulation as rage is often associated with expression vs repression

    • @codex_jinora
      @codex_jinora Před 3 lety +35

@@PickYourPoison that's an interesting point! I also think Virgil is more self protection geared towards a flight or freeze response, whereas Rage would be the fight/confront response?

    • @Ar7ifur
      @Ar7ifur Před 3 lety +14

Rage I feel holds a real key element. Kind of like how we learned how Thomas acted when Virgil wasn't present, rage is a lot like that. Rage could be physical active protection, yes, but I feel it better represents self preservation. Without rage, you wouldn't be able to cut off toxic individuals from your life, unable to confront someone about them being racist for example. Rage, in my opinion, is primarily allowing yourself to fully express yourself and free yourself from toxic situations and individuals that could harm you.

    • @Fairygoblet
      @Fairygoblet Před 2 lety +9

Anger is meant to show us what we cannot accept or what is bad for us or that we are in a situation that is not good for us. It's very important because it points to what is painful in our lives. Not being listened to is causing Logan a great deal of pain, so it triggers the orange side. Much like an orange traffic cone, the orange side wants to alert everyone to the potential Hazard ahead. However, rage can be corrupted if it's kept under wraps for a long time or actively rejected. It can cause physical health issues, anxiety, and an extremely severe cases, disassociative episodes. This is because rage demands to be heard, and if it cannot be, it will create conditions to facilitate its own release, even if that makes you feel like you are watching yourself express your anger.
While I find the idea of him being a part of Logan intriguing, it seems that right now the orangeside can only act through others, so it's difficult to tell whether this is true. I think it's likely that he's using the sides as puppets, causing them to act out to get Thomas to pay attention to what's hurting him in his life. Thomas as a character probably does not want to acknowledging his anger at all, hence why he was introduced last. I could see him being another aspect of Logan, because from the very beginning Logan has struggled the most with sudden Outburst that he has trouble acknowledging afterward.

In my fanart I labeled it “to the most important” because that’s the most likely thing that would cause discord between the sides. I was planning a fanfic about the origin of the sides where a golden tree representing the subconscious was at the center of it, so I was spooked in the most recent episode to see that golden tree with a blue background art in the background of the most recent episode (I couldn’t remember if it’s something that’s just always in Thomas’s house).

Interestingly enough, "æppel" is an Old English term used to describe fruit... as in all fruits. Of course, today, apples are a specific fruit, but it's worth noting that oranges were in fact considered 'apples' at one point... because 'apple' meant 'fruit' back then, so Oranges being considered a "golden apple" is less far fetched than one might think, so the historical accounts check out here in more ways than one.
To be fair, though, this is an Old English term, I'm unsure if it was Ancient Greek terminology at one point or not.

The detail I love most about the tree is the branch "connected" to Logan led to Janus, who holds the gate between him and rage. Essentially, this snake is about to let rage consume or control logan, while the other light sides have no clue of it since they are further in front of the tree. What I am most excited for however is Virgil. I want to know his relationship with rage, and what he knows about it having been a reformed dark side.

He may not be based on Greek or Roman gods. But maybe Norse. Fenrir is giant wolf that usually is associated with fire. Virgil jumped when he heard a dog bark. "Your bark is worse than your bite" or vice versa. And I think his name is Vulcan. So based on a Norse god but named after a Roman one. Vulcan is connected to fire, volcanos and destruction..and connected to the disaster that was Pompeii. Your theory is great, but only time will tell.

Love all your theories and I think some of them might turn out true :D As usual I'm super impressed by the amount of research you put into them, and your presentation is just superb.
The only thing I would disagree with is the name. All of the sides seem to have names that are still in use in modern times, even if some of them (especially the dark sides' ones) might feel a bit old-timey. Cronus would feel a little bit out of place, at least for me. My idea for his name would be Lucius because...
...it relates to the latin words "lux" (light) and "lucere" (to shine), which could fit in with the fire imagery.
...this is somewhat of a stretch, but Esox lucius is the scientific name of the pike, a quite aggressive predatory fish.
...it sounds a bit like Lucifer, and I could see how Char!Thomas might see a raging side as the Devil (in) Himself.
...Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus was the birth name of the Roman emperor Nero, who has the reputation to have set Rome on FIRE (and I think Thomas would probably feel like that side is setting his mind on fire). A Roman emperor would also fit well with the Roman poet, Roman god and Roman founding father.
Sorry for the wall of text, I got WAY carried away, but I'm just so excited for the upcoming reveal of that fellow ^^ A side representing rage (so, probably anger management issues) has been my hope pretty much since I started watching this show.

A mini theory of mine is that the orange sides name is gonna end with us or at least s, because Remus and Janus both do.
The connection between the ending of the names and what side they're on (light side or dark side) is hinted at in pattons comment on vigils name, in the video he reveals it, when Patton says that he was expecting it to end in AN or ON because that was the case with the rest of the light sides where so far all the dark sides have had names that ended with US this makes me believe that orange sides name will also end with those same two letters, the fact that Virgils name neither ends with AN, ON or US further solidifies that he is disconnected to both the dark and light.

He doesn’t have a form because Thomas is very in denial about his rage, more in denial then he was with any of the others. (Or for some other reason idk)
At some point (in the season finale or in a later season) he’ll get a body that’s actually his and not one he took over.

Okay here's another late comment (sorry if you covered this, these are just my late thoughts):
Orange: See no evil "blinded by rage", violent anger
Janus: Speak no evil - Hand over mouth, can block out other sides
Remus: hear no evil - Patton and the other sides cover their EARS when he summons the dark thoughts in DWIT.
It's obvious that orange relates to Logan's eyes - he wears glasses and his eyes glowed orange. But i feel like there's something else.
I speak from experience, but hear me out okay?
When you're angry, you often do things that you regret later - throwing things, yelling etc. (you know what i mean)
If you weren't angry, then you would LOGICALLY decide not to do those things - there's just no reason to.
I feel like Anxiety has something to do with this as well - when making a decision, anxiety causes you to think of every single possible outcome from your actions - sometimes this causes PARANOIA, because you become so scared that everything you do could result in the worst case scenario. My point is, when you're angry, you don't think before you act (i'm generalising but y'know) - you act without CAUTION or LOGIC. So maybe Orange (i theorise his name to be Marcus) blocks out/possesses logic, while completely overruling anxiety.
I hope that makes some sense - also, randomly, why do i picture remus whispering into possessed Logan's ear "oooh yess and then you boil them ALIVE until their EARS burst!" - y'know, VIOLENT anger...
Anyway thankyou for reading this absolute lecture, i don't know anyone who watches Sanders Sides so i needed to write this comment and get the tHeOrIeS out of my system!

okay but imagine if it started with thomas having a bad dream about his sides [mainly roman and patton] turning evil but when it gets to logan theres just a white question mark and then he wakes up from hiis dream and is greeted with a new side with slightly orange clothing and orange eyes that says
"my my you woke up quite late"
    to wich thomas responds with
    "who are you?"
    and the man responds with
    "the names RAGE"
thomas sits there in horror as rage calmly says
"normally people start running around now"
thomas gets out of bed and runs down the stairs and exlaims
    "what is up everybody"
as the sides minus virgil all rise up logan says
"you dont have to film a video today thomas its not on your schedule"
rage walks down the stairs standing where virgil normally sits and says
"oh hes just trying to get rid of me isnt that right? logan boy"
and as logan stands there with horror the fun ubeat intro plays right as everything is about to begin.

    LONG THEORY COMMENT
I've come to the conclusion that Patton is more of a roadblock in Thomas' problems than the dark sides.
Think about it this way: Deceit is self preservation. He works as the part of Thomas that puts happiness first, regardless of outsiders--this is his life, and he wants his host to live it the best. Patton sees this as immoral and would rather be completely honest to benefit Thomas' friends, family and others, and thus decided Deceit was bad.
Remus is the spontaneity of Thomas' creativity--the executive impulse to say what you're thinking, and due to the fact that he's not always thinking the most CLEAN things, Patton once again labeled his "contributions" as intrusive and made him stay away.
And then we get to Orange. Presumably, he represents Anger. But if you've ever read the tweet that says the anger in you is the part of you that sees how you've been treated and deems it undeserved and unfair, and loves and protects you by trying to prove that, we see his necessity to Thomas. However, he's been locked away in the back of Thomas' mind because the actions he may use to "protect" him from the ruthlessness of life are probably violent and hurtful. And Patton refuses to hurt anyone, even if he's sacrificing Thomas to do so.
Logan is the one known to conquer and accept the dark sides. He works through Deceit's lies, disproved Remus' nightmarish thinking, and calms Virgil's paranoia. But when you're really, truly pissed, you don't listen to reason. This is why Orange is Logan's direct opposite; the one side logic truly cannot defeat. Your emotions are not quantified.
Nobody's been listening to logic for a while, though. Even though he makes an effort, since the start, to listen and hear out *all* of the other sides from Patton to Remus, no one stopped to understand his point of view--he's just logic! There's nothing to understand but facts, ones and zeros aren't hard to comprehend.
And that's why Logan and Orange are opposite. They work together.
Remus and Roman are two sides of creativity. Together, they'd be unstoppable. If Patton and Deceit understood the others' role, they'd be able to balance Thomas, letting him decide without such constant disagreements between moral and self care.
But Logan and the Orange side, logic and rage, work together. At least, I can see Orange coming out to protect Logan. And perhaps, Orange IS Logan. He's been tossed away and ignored since the beginning of the series.
    What if Logan's had enough?

Stupid idea, but what if orange took the form of Nico and during the introduction when Thomas got really angry two hands would reach out from over his shoulders and blind him and then we'd hear Nico's voice go "why hello there" or something like that. The whole episode he'd be right next to Thomas. This was kind of inspired when Janus said that Thomas didn't think of where they all would stand. Even worse if when he started losing he said something like "Oh come on Thomas, we all know you've been thinking of some terrible ways of getting back at him. Right Remus?" And he'd summon Remus. What if he could unsummon people, like if he could banish Logan? This is the finale dark side of the season at least, he has to be able to do something and if it isn't blinding the sides and making them shout out if anger what if it's blinding Thomas from the other sides?

I made a tumblr post about my own theory a little while ago, so i'm just gonna copy and paste it here.
I like the idea of Logan actually BEING the orange side. Similar to how Patton turned into the giant frog (Lilypadton) in SVS Redux, i feel like if he lashes out too much, Logan is going to just become the orange side, which many people are theorizing to be Rage. This makes sense to me.
I also find the idea of Remus and Janus seeing Logan “orangeing” and going “Oh honey, really? You aren’t menacing at all, let us teach you.” a weird mix of wholesome and horrifying.
If this doesn’t happen in canon, please know that I’m 100% writing fanfiction of this.

Everyone is thinks that orange side is going to be anger or wrath. However, may I propose to you that they will represent Thomas's "Beliefs and Will" which can go against Logan's logic and reasoning. Many times Logan has proposed drastic changes in Thomas's life that could lead to Thomas having a serious amount of anxiety such as quitting acting and getting a "real job". This is because Thomas deep down "believes" that what he is doing is not worth it based on societal pressures and not from logical reasoning that his acting career is not profitable and that he may need to fall back on another job to support himself and his passions. In the most recent Sanders Asides, Thomas "believes" the reason why Nico is not answering him is due to Nico not wanting a relationship him. This leads to Thomas resenting Nico until Nico called him and explained the situation. Our beliefs are greatly affected by how we perceive a situation. If we don't have all of the pieces to the puzzle, we may base our actions and decisions on what we perceive as true and not by using logic to come to the right conclusion. Orange will confront Thomas about his beliefs it will be up to Logan to break down these beliefs and decipher the truth while also facing his own demons.

Here's how I think orange's introduction episode will go down: something seemingly minor happens that just causes Thomas to completely explode, freaking everyone out. Orange appears, his eyes glowing orange and crackling like fire. He starts screaming and roaring, barely able to form complete sentences. Roman draws his sword and attacks, only to get thrown aside and knocked out. Logan steps up and tries to reason with him. Patton offers to help but Logan, feeling like this is his last chance to be useful, refuses. As Logan tries and fails to understand the orange side, Virgil and Patton try to make him see reason. After trying and failing to talk down the orange side, he grows frustrated and gives up. Patton, being Thomas's emotions and empathy, manages to get Thomas to calm down and the orange side decends back into his room, for now at least. Now that all is said and done, Logan, feeling more alone and neglected than ever, decides to retreat into his room, leading into a two-parter about getting him back.

My guess for the name would be "Julius".
    Why? Simple.
It's a Greek/Roman name (when you're looking at the Sides' wiki page, the Trivia tells you that their names are either Greek and/or Roman).
It's a clever pun on the creamy beverage "Orange Julius".
    The history:
Julius Caeser was born in a noble family (maybe [Julius] grew up with the Creative Twins) and gained political power when the Roman Empire was in chaos. (I'm guessing that when the Light Sides were too busy bickering, [Julius] grew curious about what Logan was doing and, thanks to Logan, gained an interest in politics). When he declared dictatorship, the rich Romans got him killed in order to prevent democratic reform (I'm guessing that when Logan voted and sponsored [Julius] to be the leader after working up from Logan's right-hand man, Roman grew jealous because he was a prince and he didn't want any competition. So, he staged a little accident that causes [him] to disappear. Since Sides can't die (but Roman didn't know that), Logan had already known that [Julius] wasn't completely gone, but he'd never known of [his] powers or abilities. I'm also guessing that since Janus saw the whole thing while being disguised as a snake, he secretly worked with [him]. I think this had something to do with Virgil leaving? I'm not sure. But, the moment when Virgil got accepted as a Light Side, [Julius] had decided to lay low, as according to the plan than [he] and Janus had come up with.).
    Bonus:
Logan's eyes turning orange? That was [his] way of saying "07734".
Why was Logan confused when his eyes turned orange? He hasn't seen nor heard from [Julius] in so long, that it must've slipped his mind despite being Logic.

I just had a thought. Maybe Orange isn’t just rage, but emotions in general. If Logan is logic, Patton is morality, Roman and Remus are creativity, Virgil is anxiety and Janus is deceit then it leaves room for emotions
(If I’m remembering correctly at least) Thomas is repressing his emotions to stay afloat mentally, so I coulf see an eventual episode where not just him but the rest of the sides let out all their raw emotions

Orange is basically the opposite of blue. The color both Patton and Logan represent. I'm pretty sure the part about being blind is probably going to be correct. We also know that Patton is very scared of spiders and we know that a good portion of spiders that exists are kind of blind. Also, the way spiders hunt for prey is through a spider web, in which the prey inevitably falls into. That means that the preys are blind to what is in front of them.
Another thing is that spiders are also typically associated with Halloween, in which I guess people are kind of blind to each other. Deceit apparently also plays a huge part as with the whole Halloween business, since there are disguises involved. I'm guessing that the emblem for the orange side would be a spider since every side has one.
*The opposites that we know so far are:*
-Virgil *_(anxiety)_* and Janus *_(deceit)._* Anxiety can lead to a heighten sense of your surroundings and yourself. Deceit ,however, can lead you to have a false sense of reality and yourself.
-Roman *_(good creativity)_* and *(bad creativity).* This being pretty obvious as Roman is about the positive and good imaginations while Remus is about the negative and gruesome imaginations.
The only opposite we don't know much about is the one for Patton *_(morality)_* and Logan *_(logic)._* So I'm going to guess that the orange side represents the opposite of both Patton and Logan. The orange side represents the negative aspect of emotions. The emotional outburst itself being the opposite of Logan and the negative emotions that is involved in said outburst being the opposite of Patton.

if colors aren’t relevant, they wouldn’t have a name. there are cultures in which blue can be seen as green if it’s the same saturation and people of that culture can’t tell the difference. in connection to the golden/green apple, i think that they could be interchangeable because in the odyssey, they used what we now know as green to describe honey (similarly, they described the ocean saying it was the color of wine) so i think that janus’ green apple connecting to the golden one isn’t that much of a stretch! i know it doesnt add much to the theory, it’s more of a fun fact really, but i just thought i’d make a connection :>

I noticed that the sides names are connected, the darksides (aka Janus and Remus) 's name end with "us." Which might have a meaning, and Logan and Roman's name ends with "an," and lastly Virgil and Patton, my theory is that Virgil might be a neutral side (aka neither light or dark side) and that the orange side's name might end with either be connected to Virgil or Patton. I also noticed that Virgil's name means "flourishing" which when you look up the definition, it means grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way. Which might connect to what's currently going on with Virgil himself. And Logan's name means "Hollow" which once again, you look up the definition, it means having a hole or empty space inside. I believe that their are some connection with the sides (like pairs, or trios) like Logan and the orange side or even Janus (or maybe Remus) might be connected from all of their interactions. Janus and Roman also might be connected from their current rivalry, their might be some more stuff going on between the two from the past which still affects them, and Virgil and Patton, which they used to get along but Virgil might be mad at Patton for the wedding episode and because he is accepting Janus, which might change how they interact. Ik this doesn't make sense but that's my theory and what I noticed so far.

Is it just me that think rage would do well with Roman? I mean, Roman is the one that always moves with Thomas desire right? And, Janus is also the one that protect Thomas desire. Lying to himself. Something like, "you *will* get it soon", "they love you", "they don't care if you leave them for a bit" or you know? Stuff to protect Thomas. Although, instead of simple word, rage would actually make it happens. Like, if Thomas want an ice cream, boom. He takes it from a child. And Roman would support that a little bit because desire of Thomas is his part to play of. Well, he won't welcome rage as much as others but at some point in life he had to right?

ooh and here's some unneeded knowledge, cause i do agree ya boi orange man is possibly rage
but i really love color symbolism so 😳😳😳😳
orange represents the in-between of red and yellow, it includes anger and rage (red symbolisms, which red has much more which ill get into after-), childishness and just straight up excitement (yellow symbolisms, but yellow also has more to it than these :D, cause yellow also has bad symbolisms ahahaha)
    so rage pretty much!!
but because i mentioned how orange was sort of in-between of red and yellow, so screw it ill mention those too, but it's not really needed unless you wanna learn some cool fun facts because these characters actually represent the symbolisms really well i- (and also i just obsess over symbolism and proceed to say any information I have about it in hopes of someone finding it interesting LMAOO)
red is known for rage, passion, war, and other stuff
roman is a prince who's very passionate, he is creativity and the drama queen of the mind palace so- haha 😳✋
yellow is known for excitement, happiness, cowardice, caution, *deceit*, jealousy and betrayal :)
so janus, he's deceit (omg so surprisinngngnf 😳✋)
he's cautious for thomas, because remember that episode where he just wanted thomas to learn that hey, he needs to be selfish sometimes, because people need to work on themselves as well :D

The younger is named Apri (like apricot) and the older was just named orange. And also i decided to switch their styles so apri has his own style instead of looking like logan. I know its probably not possible for there to be two orange sides but eh 🤷‍♀️

Okay but hear me out, a theory video analyzing where all of the sides (including the orange side) fit in different hogwarts houses. Like more in debt than the actual Harry Potter ep

I have no clue where I saw it, but I saw somewhere that the person didn’t think that Logan would turn into a dark side because Virgil already did, therefore they didn’t think that Logan was Orange. What are your thoughts on this?

We both believe the orange side will be a completely separate entity that can influence the other sides (hence the orange eyes) rather than a Jekyll and Hyde situation

So, when you said Green Apples present matters of the mind. Isn't Logan's symbol a brain or in other words the mind? What I am thinking is that there something going on with Logan when he yelled at Remus. Which could mean that next episode might have the Orange side appear bc of Logan yelling at the others with him getting ignored all the time

I've seen people say the Orange side can't be a singular emotion like Rage, since none of the other sides are singular emotions. I would like to think Orange is Rage, but I don't think it's likely.
