Young pup here. Only been listening to Steve for nearly 50 years now. Starting with Nursery Cryme (the first great Genesis album, IMHO). See him play live if you get the chance. He still has the chops. I’ve seen him every time he’s played live in Los Angeles over the last ten years (last time was November, 2023). Always try to get a seat in the first few rows. Well worth the money spent.
I love what STEVE HACKETT brought in Genesis music, he brought the romantic and strange side of genesis music. STEVE HACKETT is a very creative musician , his way of playing guitar is very special, very unique and dedicated to musicality , and give to me so much emotion.STEVE , is like his music , delicately powerfull , moving , funny , strange, and romantic . He has kept his soul child , ant that's why I like so much , the musician and his music. THANKS FOR ALL STEVE , Take care of you.
That song is most certainly one of my first musical "experiences", in the most spiritual meaning of the word. I was born in 1971, raised by listening to bands like Pink Floyd, Genesis, Ange (a French prog rock band), among others. I consider myself extremely lucky for having experienced music created by these marvelous artists. I do not simply listen to music, I feel every single note deep inside my body, my heart, my soul. I'm so thankful for what Mr. Hackett and others have brought to the world.
I saw your performance in Southampton, last October. It must have been fate, for I was supposed to be in London for the Genesis farewell tour, but it was cancelled because of Covid. But the trip to UK was already paid. So then I discovered the 'Seconds Out' tour and decided take the train South instead. This was the album that made me a Genesis fan when I was about 12 or so. Much more was my amazement that you played this set at the Mayflower theatre in 1977. I must have been divine intervention, I'm sure ;-) Anyway, this piece blew me away. Thank you for the solace of your music.
This is a song that evokes very strong emotions for me. It brings me back to a very particular time in my life, days of wine and roses, with this playing on the soundtrack. And the thoughts of youth are long, long thoughts...just like this wonderful song! Thank you, Steve.
i was glad to see this song live over a month ago in Quebec City. probably the most intense thing i've ever seen live! i hope we get to see you again in Quebec City this year or the next! : )
I saw Steve and band with the 40-piece Orchestra in Glasgow a couple of years back. When they launched into this one, the whole place was shaking with the power of the sound. Not noisy, or just loud...just sheer power. What a moment. Thanks you for so many great shows with and without Genesis.
This song was discovered "accedently" by a music application, I adopted it , and listed to it about hundrered times - all variations including covers. This Helped though my Mom's passing this year.
Steve brought so much to Genesis and I have been delighted to see how his career has flourished beyond words since I first followed Genesis in 1973. His dedication to both his art and vast catalogue of work is wonderful. There are plenty of covers of Steve's work, but I really like how Fleesh have both added their own style to, but fully respected, the original works such as Shadow of the Hierophant czcams.com/video/4JHJgG2p9jU/video.html and Genesis tracks such as The Lamia czcams.com/video/6DjPwDgHA2Y/video.html If Steve has time to listen, I hope he enjoys the work of these gifted people.
One of the first albums I ever bought. I think that the long sequence that forms the outro to "Shadow" is absolutely apocalyptically epic, dark, sonorous and deeply melodic. I met Steve very briefly backstage at one of this excellent shows in the early 80s in Manchester, and asked him to play it, which he very kindly did the next time I saw him! It's a remarkable track.
Steve, my buddies and I found "Voyage of the Acolite" at a time when we were all stationed in Germany in the early 80s and at a record store in Amsterdam, which is where we used to go for some much needed R&R. We were all in various phases of self, mental and spiritual exploration and discovery and I personally was exploring the Tarot Major Arcana at the time. "Ace of Wands" and "Shadow of the Hierophant" especially were and still are some pretty evocative tracts... Listening to them now takes me back to a time and place like few things have the power to do. All I can say is "Thanks!"
I just recently saw your show at the Elsinore in Salem. I had never heard this track before. I've been a long time prog fan and especially loved Wind and Wuthering and Trick of the Tail when you played on them. I was instantly grabbed by this chord progression and started to figure it out in my head. When I got home I worked on it and even the lead line and have been entranced ever since with it. I was very curious how you came up with it. It seems to have no real pattern yet each chord and note in the lead line really takes it some where. It so grasps the intellect and the soul.
Thank you Steve. I grew up with Genesis and your music, especially Voyage of the Acolyte. Although a little bit more recently, I'm 28 right now. Greetings and all the best from Estonia
Awesome track. Loved the previous line up with Nick on guitars (sitting down playing bass pedals) and Gary on drums. Really hope things get back to normal soon and we get our Hackett fix again at Leicester in November.
I missed a lot of that when it came out. Only recently have I begun trying to catch up because I have the time. I played it during our most recent eclipse, though one could hardly detect it here in California. I didn't see it in progress but those who were tracking it nearby said the small bells coincided with the beginning of the Sun's return. Of course I know science but we still think back to old beliefs. Bells, drums, and horns were all said to drive away evil spirits, right?
"Groove away?" Ah, it's a zombie dance track, right? That would explain the slow, ponderous beat and the length of the song, to give slow-moving zombies time to move to it!
Is that monitor-mix version the one that is featured as a (lengthy) bonus track on the Voyage of the Acolyte Anniversary edition? The one that runs for about 12 minutes? Love it!
This song still touches me. Thanks Steve for your great contribution to music.

He's still going strong at 70 yrs of age!
I remember driving long distances with this album blaring out of my car speakers! Voyage is a masterpiece. Cheers!
This is atill a great prog rock track and it sounds even better in this day and age!
Always an absolute favourite, it just builds like a tidal wave of sound, excellent. 👌🙂
For me the best Steve's solo masterpiece !!!!
I love this the recent performances have been absolutely sensational.

Steve is so goofy looking when he grins at the camera awkwardly. LOL, love ya Steve.

Great, great, great, with Sally Oldfield and and also with Amanda Lehmann. And the drums getting more prominent live. So cool.
i was glad to see this song live over a month ago in Quebec City.
probably the most intense thing i've ever seen live!
i hope we get to see you again in Quebec City this year or the next! : )
One of the best prog rock songs ever! I really love the version on Live in Birmingham 2018. It can't be better performed.
I was there...it was outstanding

Same thing happened at the Sage in Gateshead. The sound was monstrous!
Loudest song I've ever heard played live... at Birmingham 2018
These videos are making me spend far too much time in front of my PC watching and listening to you and not doing any of my work dam you :)
The best one! Thank you Steve
This song was discovered "accedently" by a music application, I adopted it , and listed to it about hundrered times - all variations including covers. This Helped though my Mom's passing this year.
A true masterpiece of prog! One of my favorite songs Steve does in concert. Thanks so much for these videos!
You all did a great job of this song, live, here in Cincinnati at the Taft theater on Halloween.

Looking forward to seeing you again in Washington, DC this fall! Hope you keep this in your setlist!!!!
Love it, the vocals by Sally Oldfield are lovely and the crescendo is a amazing way to end the album.
So darn good Steve
I saw your show in NYC the other night with Craig on drums and what he did was unbelievable, he took this song to new heights.
Big BIG tune. A real headbanger.
it's unbelievable live, with the Moog Taurus pedals shaking the whole building!
@@moontan91 gets better (and heavier) every time I see it played live.
A timeless masterpiece indeed! Thank you Steve for all the wonderful music! :)

Love this song and this album. Beautiful song.
First heard this live with your current band. Love it. Now one of my favorites.
Grande Steve ..

Thanks Steve 🤝🍻
a deeply moving piece of music
I love this album
The best progressive music i have ever heard

Album meraviglioso
