  • I was scrolling through my CZcams Feed and came across this creator, Dporticus who has been killing it on YT lately! One of his latest videos being a set of questions he has for AEW fans. And well... I may not be high on the product but I still very much consider myself a fan of the product so we're gonna watch his video and see if we can answer all his questions.

    I can only think of one other time WWE referenced AEW. During DX’s HoF speech, they joked that Billy Gunn couldn’t get fired and Triple H said “[Vince]’ll buy that pissant company to fire you”

    "This is wrestling, I don't want to see you hurt yourself."
    I believe this is true about YOU Soop, but not about the majority of the AEW crowd. I'd argue it's actually one of the main distinctions between the two promotions and the people they attract.
    For years I've seen endless complaints about WWE wrestling being "PG", "phony", "for kids", whatever infinite dumb variation of that you want to imply that WWE avoids putting their wrestlers in harms way for the sake of breaking the illusion, but AEW doesn't.
    The best way I've come to describe the different mentalities is that WWE fans want to see action theater, where heroes defeat villains in combat. AEW fans are more akin to the crowd at a Roman colosseum, where they may want one gladiator to prevail over another, but overall they are there to be entertained by the thrill of carnage itself.

      On the other hand, these guys are doing some crazy ass spots, and either no one is telling them not to do them, or they aren't listen when people say it isn't a good idea. Adam Copeland (still hard to not call him Edge) didn't properly commit to the top of the cage move he did at Double or Nothing, and landing on his leg, breaking it. We can excuse that as accidents happening and Edge's body being a bit older. However, Dante Martin took a Canadian Destroyer through 4 TABLES at Supercard of Honor last year and was out for the rest of the year. We love seeing wrestlers do death defying stunts but the idea is to always make it look more dangerous than it actually is and I think something needs to be done about that.

    • @joshwent
      @joshwent Před měsícem +2

      @@Yunglex313 Another angle of it all is that the "character" of so many of these wresters is "Guy who will ruin his own body for the sake of AEW". Copeland, Danielson, Allin, and on and on. Their persona itself is built around being actually injured in the ring to prove their dedication to the fans. So when they actually get IRL injured in a match... I'm starting to get sick of being surprised.

    • @pleaseshutup7053

      You couldn’t be wrong looking phony doesn’t mean you have to hurt yourself. Bret hart never looked phony and he never hurt anyone. The criticisms for wwe is that when they talk you can tell they are trying to remember a pg script it’s gotten better over the last couple of years.

    • @pleaseshutup7053

    Correct if I’m wrong but I believe the first time the company wwe by name was mentioned in MJF’s pipe bomb in 2022. That was probably the last time I was popped by them mentioning wwe but now it’s getting old. However, I don’t have an issue when AEW wrestlers who are mainly known as wwe guys use wwe mentions as part of accomplishments in their wrestling career. Example being Bryan danielson when he said when I won the world title at wrestlemania I wrestled the very next day. He was using wwe as an accomplishment and not burying them

    Hey Sooplex, I'm really happy to hear that you are going to Forbidden Door on Long Island (Yes, it's ON Long Island, not in). Our last PPV, World's End, was something I really enjoyed because I went with my family. I really hope you enjoy it on LI, and hope that you don't have to deal with the shitty roads or traffic on Hempstead Turnpike or Southern State. Well technically it's not on Long Island it's in the Queens side of Elmont and plenty of people on the Island consider Nassau and Suffolk County to be "Long Island." Anyway, I hope you enjoy UBS Arena, I've never actually been there as I'm a Rangers Fan.

    As a wrestling fan in general, seeing stupid shit from both of the major companies is tiring already, wwe tend to throw jabs ever so often, but damn AEW (specifically Tony Kahn) fucking been living off of it like it’s oxygen. Don’t get me wrong I love aew for the wrestling and the great wrestlers I wanna see , but TK needs to stop acting like it’s the Monday night wars and they’re trying to put him out of business, cause throwing shade at the wwe is just petty and obnoxious. Yes there’s stuff u might not like that they do, but we wouldn’t all be here if it wasn’t for WWE. If TK wants AEW to be taken seriously as a company, man’s need to stop talking and just run your show and try to put on some good matches

    • @Jshmoney24
      @Jshmoney24 Před měsícem +2

      Exactly. It devalues their own product when it seems like they can’t go 2 shows without a reference. It was cool at first, but it wore off quickly which is kinda my problem w AEW overall. They overuse some things. I want to see them succeed but I agree TK overdoes some stuff

    • @nicktasteless360

      AEW relies on WWE haters as their fans and they wonder why their company isn’t growing. They keep pushing new people away.

    • @pleaseshutup7053

      As someone who lived thru the Monday night wars. Wwe and wcw would take shots at each other on a weekly basis if there was social media back then it would be even worse than Tony. The issue that will plague aew will be the talent and product Tony is a horrible booker that is what is holding aew back. No other booker ever would make the young bucks a central figure on tv they were a joke in Tna

      Everyone lives in their bubble, whatever fanbase attacks their bubble they retaliate whether their side is in the right or wrong. Fans just don’t know how to take any criticism if it’s actually true of their product. Just don’t pay attention to it as it’ll ruin your experience and enjoyment. Both AEW and WWE alike. I don’t blame you for only seeing that because you follow what you like. I just wish others were more open minded and let the bookers cook!!!

    On the point of becoming numb to the common extreme stuff. I think I've become partly numb mostly cause of the laws o diminishing return. Like every PPV they have some sort of extreme match and its like if it happens so often it loses its luster and appeal. The Copeland/Black match was only memorable cause Copeland broke his leg. Other than that it was a alright extreme match that just happened
    This also extends to angles they do on TV. The Dynamite prior to Double or Nothing they had Rodrick Strong and the Undisputed Kingdom bust open Will Ospreay and its supposed to feel like a big deal. Problem is they did the same exact thing with Swerve/Christian feud 2 weeks in a row where Swerve was bleeding after a beatdown before this so it just felt like "Meh whatever".

    I guarantee if people just ignored/gave no reactions to Khan/MJF bringing up WWE it would stop happening but people feel the need to make a big deal out of it when it happens, just look at how Punk kept trying to allude to his time in AEW but got no reaction so he eventually stopped
    The way some people react to these WWE namedrops on AEWTV youd think a slur was just said

    I disagree. Wwe takes subtle jabs at aew like have outlets report false numbers on viewer numbers on their TV on the business end and when they book shows. On the promo side, certain things wrestlers say. The problem is aew is more overt while wwe is more subtle.

      @pinealdreams1064 Před měsícem

      They don't, Tony Khan said that on Twitter and now you've believed it to be a fact. It would be a waste of resources to plant false reports on viewing figures when you can find the official number without too much difficulty.
      This is just Khan being in denial about his poor viewing figures and coming up with the most ridiculous excuse ever that only somebody as dumb as yourself could believe.
