Thank you for sharing your experience and advice, the video was very insightful. I just wanted to ask your opinion on wether or not you would need to go to a one of the top MFE programs that were listed in the video or if you could still get a good job without having access to a top program due to not living in countries like the US or UK.

Great video! Would attaining a CS masters degree from a mid-level private school be an ideal route to pursue a role as a quant? From your experience, how have people with CS background broken through in the industry with their computing background? Do these individuals learn the math/finance necessary on their own or through work experience?

NYU's MS in Mathematics in Finance is 1 1/2 years not 2!! You are mistaken with Tandon's program.

Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience and giving out so much advice! May I ask what programming language is most needed for a Quant ? Is Python enough or is it better to learn c/c++ ?

Thanks for your question. It depends on the position. For quant developer, C++ and sometimes Java are required. For quant strategist/researcher, python is good enough. Having additional coding skills listed on the resume wouldn’t hurt.

Are most MFE grads working in front office or back office? I heard only elite PhDs will be hired at profit generating positions.

Thank You for such a valuable information
    Btw I had a doubt,
What if someone want to pursue the career in quant and want to do MSCF at age of 26-27 with no prior experience in finance/ economics (but have a Computer Engineering degree)
Can you please tell me what are the odds, like if age is too much or no prev experience can screw me up ???

For the record, I do not hold an MFE degree nor am I super familiar with this field. But, I believe you can probably apply to a standard MSFE/MSCF program with a computer engineering degree. The cost to apply is usually only around $75-100 for an application for these schools and letters of recc. There is a popular idea that it is more easy to go from a technical major (ie. math/engineering) into finance, then it is to go from finance into a technical field. Good luck.

Hi, I am from Liberia, a 2013 graduate of the University of Liberia where I obtained a BBA Degree in Accounting Major and Economics Minor. Now that I am 42 years old and currently living in my home country, can I still study and in becoming a Financial Engineer especially considering my age? What are some of the best ways you can recommend to help me achieve my goa, l because I do not have the financial leverage and want to study this program through a scholarship?

Study programming….try to learn math again…never too late…do what you love…and try the best you can…don’t worry about others’ opinions…that’s job you will do the rest of your life…
