  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was revealed last week and there has been a lot of buzz circulating around the game. What will the game entail? What hidden details are there? Is that my favorite character returning?! I decided to take a deep dive into the trailer to give some insight into what might be happening, things I noticed, and some light theories. Enjoy!

    One thing that Enel pointed out in one of his videos on this is that the official art for each character has a faint glow of a specific color on one leg and if lined up a certain way, it creates a rainbow. This clearly means that Rein will not only be present but also majorly important to the plot (or it could be related to the Bible and the fact that the main protagonist is named Noah).

    Let's go, excellent analysis my dude! Some smaller details aside (some of which were revealed on Twitter during the making of this video), you managed to capture basically all of the important details- huge props. Now, since you asked for details and theories, I think I'll throw my crackpot theory into the mix! The more I thought about this, the more sense it makes to me, and I've seen people echo similar thoughts (sorry for the length of this one lol):
    The people of Aionios are the founders of XCX's Samaarian Federation, and Aionios itself becomes Planet Mira. If you had asked me if XCX should connect to the mainline series a couple of months ago, I would have said no- their stories are very different, and their lore is contradictory. But considering the details present both in the trailer and supplemental information, I think it's actually quite possible.
    *In Theory* ... Xenoblade 3 will end with Noah shepherding the world's inhabitants out of Aionios on an Ark. This would likely be due to the fog beasts, but it could also be due to the Conduit being funky (whatever the reason, Oroboros and the clocks will likely have something to do with it). Regardless, after reclaiming and harnessing the Conduit's power, they will jump to one of the infinite parallel universes in search of their lost homeland- Earth.
    The world left behind becomes what we know as Planet Mira, with the only sentient race to remain on the planet, the Nopon, becoming an indigenous species. In their new world, Noah's descendants will become known as Samaarians, and they will found the Samaarian Federation- now residents in the universe of X. For context, Luxaar says "At the dawn of the cosmos, the Samaarian's arrived from another plane", and we know they were genetically identical to humans.
    There seem to be a lot of details that back this up. Mira is a cross-universe dumping ground of various species on the brink of extinction. Aionios is already exhibiting signs of this, with pieces of the separate universes of XC1 and XC2 getting mashed together from across time and space. Pieces of Bionis Leg, Makna Forest, and the Mechonis sword are visible in this trailer, despite the fact that they were destroyed at the end of XC1. Most clearly is the Mechonis Sword, Zanza cut that blade in twain by the hilt. Mira might be the world of Aionios just changed after the mixing of numerous worlds over thousands of years. The XCX artbook validates this, with Cauldros labeled as "old planet wroth" among other such details.
    I wouldn't be surprised if the ring present in Oblivia is in the world of Aionios at some point, if this idea holds up that is. The common theory is that the ring is from the Mechonis' shoulder, but I've since been informed that dialogue in the Nopon Camp in Oblivia actually suggests that it was from a flying city. So it's entirely possible that it is the large disk of a fallen Alcamoth. Whether or not we'll see Alcamoth fall in this story or if this part holds any credence at all, we'll have to see. I have to check it myself, but apparently, this is the line in question: "The rings were part of an advanced civilization floating in the sky that fell when they ran out of power to keep afloat."
    Other details that add up under this theory: This would also explain where X's Nopon came from (they're indigenous to the planet), and would retroactively make the easter egg's to XC1 (Hom Hom, Frontier Village, and Monado references) canonically accurate. It *also* explains where Mira's resident Telethia came from.
    Lastly, regarding Uroboros and the clocks, this might explain why the High Entia, Machina, and Blades are all "aging" at the same rate as humans. Funny enough, this is the part I'm least confident about, but maybe residents of this world are forced to fill up their "clocks" in order to prevent themselves from dying out, which ends up facilitating the battle between Keves and Agnus (On this topic, I liked your theory about the departed souls being turned to fuel as they're sent off, I don't think I've heard that one yet). Either way, some time-shenanigans are clearly at play in this world.
    Could it be that the instability of the world is brought by the encroaching fog beasts (purple fog in this trailer)? Is that why Noah would have to shepherd the lambs (literally the names of the two nations) to a new promised land where they might live in harmony? Looks like we'll have to wait until September to see lol.
    I think what I like most about this theory is that it lines up with Xeno as a brand, the fog beasts being similar to Gnosis, Keves and Agnus mirroring the warring nations in XG, and the whole "Return to a promised land" shtick being an element that always finds it's way back to Xeno. Let me know what you think... if you got around to reading this far lol

      Damn, I'm really impressed with all of the thought and logic behind this. I always thought the rings in Oblivia were strange, but the Hom Hom mention by Tatsu in the middle of the final boss was always the biggest piece of evidence to me suggesting there was a deeper motive behind everything. You don't just drop a cute easter egg in the middle of the final boss like that. I'm really interested to see if this will be simply the capstone to Xenoblade so far or this mass crossover with all things Xeno. This game in a lot of ways will act as a gauge for me in what to expect from the series going forward.

    • @milktoast9140
      @milktoast9140 Před 2 lety

      @@KayJulers Very well put! I've seen a lot of people suggest that this might be the end of the -blade line of games, but since Takahashi has expressed interest in continuing the world of X, I do think revisiting that world is next in some form or another. The question that remains to be seen is whether or not the mainline trilogy will be a part of it.
      This isn't exactly a theory I *desperately want* to happen either, just a collection of ideas that I thought made sense when put together. If they go a completely different route and end the mainline story separately from X, I'd be perfectly content. I never expected XC3 to be a sequel in the first place, I thought XC1 and XC2 both had satisfyingly conclusive endings, so this combined sequel feels more like a bonus lol

    I think there’s a big theme of some sort of time manipulation, as the mechonis sword is fully in tact while in Xenoblade 1 it was split in half. And the ages of characters like eunie and lanz not lining up with their “childhood friends”. How can lanz and eunie be 18 like the rest of the cast but aging significantly slower, my only guess atm is some sort of time manipulation. This wouldn’t surprised me as clocks play a big role in this game as seen by the trailer.

    13:50 I don't know about the joker and Akhos, but our boy HB will never stop excelling.
    14:45 I can't remember who brought it up, I think it was Enel but I'm not certain, drew parallels between this line about people being fuel, the names of the countries and Deus from Xenogears as well. It's interesting to think about the ways that XC3 might be the Xenoblade universe' retelling of the Xenogears story, or something similar anyway.
    An interesting thing about those landscape shots is how reminiscent some of them are to Mira from XCX. The distant fingertip looks out over an area with terrain the reminds of the the plateaus and grasslands of Primordia, the Agnus Mech with the waterfalls in the background reminds me of areas from Noctilum, the desert shot of what might be the Fallen arm is reminiscent of Oblivia's landscape, the floating islands with the grind rail are probably the floating reefs from Erith sea, and wouldn't you know it, but there's an area in Oblivia literally called the Floating Reef. In fact, the giant floating city thing might be the giant Ring that dominates the Oblivia skyline. Coincidence? Probably, but a guy can dream right?
    Is it a bad thing that when someone first mentioned that Melia might be talking about a third organization working from the shadows called Ouroboros that my mind immediately went to the Trails series?

    Great video. There is so much about this trailer and the supplemental information surrounding it that confuses me, yet it's intriguing at the same time. Every major character with one exception has been confirmed to be 18 years of age. Mio is 19, but all of the others are 18. Can it really be a coincidence that all of them have such similar ages? Does Ouroboros refer to an evil organization, or does it refer to the party of playable characters? What exactly is a "flame clock"?
    I don't have any answers to these questions, but all of them are so intriguing. The one thing I wonder about the most is why the world is called Aionios. It is supposed to be a merged form of both XC1 and XC2's worlds, so why is it not just called "Alrest" or something like that? I don't think that the world of XC1 had a name (and if it did it was never mentioned, apart from the Bionis and Mechonis), but XC2's world did have a name. I just don't see why they would change the name of their world like this, unless it doesn't take place on planet Earth at all. Maybe the Earth of XC2 was somehow transported completely into XC1's universe or vice versa, and that's how the two worlds came to be merged. Hard to say, but it's an interesting possibility.
    (Also, a small nitpick. The word kéves technically means "sheep" (as in an adult sheep) rather than "lamb" in Hebrew. It is sometimes translated as "lamb" into English, but that's not what it really means. Agnus is actually the Latin word for "lamb" though, so I do think it's still significant that both nation's names have to do with lambs and/or sheep. It's possible that the names might be another religious reference, since the phrase "Agnus Dei" means "Lamb of God" in Latin, which was an epithet of Jesus.)

    Theory about clocks and ouroboros:
    Perhaps clocks count down someone's lifespan, which they can prolong by killing ("fighting to live, living to fight", maybe also connected to the soul/ether/whatever particles). They're part of a short lifecycle where they're constantly replaced to continue the war. I think at least some people are either clones or genetically engineered soldiers built for this purpose.
    Then Ouroboros could be people who have somehow rejected this cycle and get to escape the ticking clock to live past their assigned lifespan. This would explain why the clock symbol is replaced by an ouroboros symbol.
    Those particles could also be the fuel mentioned. Soldiers are engineered to die and produce this fuel which the offseers send back to the ones controlling it all (it would be very Xenoblade for them to think they're eulogizing the dead when they're actually key to maintaining the cycle).

It strengthens the theory that the dead are being used as fuel allowng us to understand Taion's " They're not your friends anymore, they're his fuel !" and the Ouroboros. Are they caught in a eternal loop of life and death. Is the world a purgatory?

    One thing I'm thinking the combat will do is have both the 1 and 2 style of combat systems. Keves will fight like a xc1 character and Agnus like an xc2 character. They're different armies who've learned different fighting styles.
    And Agnus specifically is described as a nation that uses ether, which is characteristic of specials from Xenoblade 2. Xenoblade 1 has no specials and the only ether attacks are by using an Ether rifle or staff (only eunie). So I'm pretty sure at the very least, Agnus will have specials but Keves won't (maybe they'll have talent arts)

    Dumping this wherever I can but we see a new Vandham and Uraya is in the game and I've not seen many people mention Garfont Village/Mecenaries. While I don't think this new Vandham is a direct descendant of Rex they can still be an homage/successor to both him and the OG Vandham via the mercenaries especially when it seems like he's a third party to the war much like in Xenoblade 2. It'd also be a good explanation for having the accent while not being Urayan if they were an orphan taken into the village possibly even by an older Rex. The name too if they are actually called Vandham.

The lines "I refuse to believe you're him" and "They're not your friends anymore, they're his fuel" have a LOT of significance if you know about Xenogears' plot.
    This is one of the better analyses I've seen for Xenoblade 3 though, especially the level of depth in trying to match the environments.

    It feels like these characters aren't so much descendants of prior ones, but like Mechonis’ sword existing in the same world as a fallen titan, the worlds, and possibly some of the people of the two games, have overlapped. What if our heroes are halved, different variations of previously existing, or even fused together, heroes? Perhaps the Architect, in an attempt to undo his mistake, brings everything together into one reality, folding worlds on top of worlds. Some elements/things/people retain their selves, but it seems like our main cast have to fuse together, combine two halves, to create a whole self… just seems to be a theme I’m picking up. Things undone, things coming together. Good thing we don't have to wait too long to fine out!

  • @IAMED2
    @IAMED2 Před 2 lety

    I feel like the characters ages might not be time related but perhaps connected to the cycle of war. I think the fighters might all be genetically engineered clones of some kind. This would explain why dead characters might return in a different form (like Vandham, or "they're not your friends anymore!"), and why some characters seem to have a mix of characteristics of previous characters: Vandham/Zeke in New Vandham, Brighid/Cassandra in Sena, Lanz being Machina and also kind of Indoline, and why Mio is so similar to Nia and has the same flesh eater core crystal. This would thematically fit with how some of the weapons seem to be combinations of other types. The ages could then relate to some kind of genetically engineered aging process rather than the natural aging of Machina, Homs, or High Entia.

    A. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe anything in Xenoblade 1 explicitly states that Machina age slowly. Machina live a hell of a long time, but it could very easily be a situation where they age up to adulthood around 18 and simply stop aging. They are primarily machines after all, maintenance can keep a machine going infinitely.
