Something that I absolutely love but don’t see people commenting on is how Matthew very much is a mix of Shulk and Rex. Having Rex’s undying optimism and charisma, while dealing with Shulk’s character arc of revenge and understanding the enemy. FR was really the culmination in many ways.

Future Redeemed really felt like Monolith Soft saying “Thank you for loving Xenoblade as much as we do”. It was a such love letter and just so satisfying. And then for it to be like “And yeah, we have a ton more coming for you.” They’re just so so so good at this.

My favourite little reference was Shulk laughing and reminiscing about the gem crafting when Rex says “To me, it was always a piece of junk…” I still randomly break out in “to you, to me!” And laugh to myself so it was so nice hearing Shulk do the same

One thing I really enjoyed about the protagonists of the base game and DLC is that Noah would seem like the wiser, more chill and smart dude who would really enjoy hanging out and talking with Shulk while Matthew is more outgoing, optimistic and hyper so he would enjoy hanging out with Rex more.
    I really enjoy that duality.

If the base game wasn't enough to show how astounding N is as a character this dlc solidified it, the cutscene at the end of chapter 4 just amazing context and delivery. Harry M. Did an astounding job with voicing, just hearing the shakiness in N's voice, one of my favorite lines delivered in gaming..
But yeah overall Future redeemed was an amazing close to the Klaus saga, I love this series so much..

For real, I almost never wanted to touch it after finishing it for the 1st time and now I'm exited to redo it after I finish replaying Xenosaga.
It's especially true since to me it gives the in-between of the 2 end cutscenes of XC3 that should have been in XC3. Although it doesn't solve all the flaws XC3 has it at least makes the story more interesting to play at least for me.

What I think is truly incredible about Xenoblade as a whole is how consistent it is.
Each game tells a story of tragedy, hope, and everything in-between. Yet at no point it truly falls off. Sure it may trip here and there but it keeps on running, keeps on moving forward.
For me, every Xenoblade game has been better and better. Xenoblade 1 set the bar, 2 managed to surpass it by the end, and 3 was just icing on the best cake ive ever eaten.
I know 3 is a bit divisive in regards to vagueness and a lack of "true" connection to Klaus. But I find 3, especially with the now context of FR, to really be that final game. The first time Takahashi and Monolith were able to truly finish a story they were so passionate about.
To cut it short: I adore Xenoblade and I genuinely believe it is one of the greatest rpg franchises of all time. 1,2,3,Torna, and FC blew me away.

You brought up the the first few lyrics of Future Awaits as a talking point about how the song is speaking to the player, and while it does do that, something else that I don't see alot of discussion about is how the lyrics relate to not only the series and the player, but to each game and their themes as the scenes roll in the credits.
In the first verse, Shulk is hit with the loss of Fiora, and with his 'foreseeing eyes' stands at the crossroads of fate, but puts aside his quest for revenge and is the first person to ask the real questions, and discover the truth of his world. For the second verse, Rex sees the fear in Pyra's eyes, reawakens Mythra the voice inside, deals with the struggle of past memories and limited time, but is able to find the strength to pick everyone back up and keep on going. The flute kicks in for verse three as Noah questions the world he lives in and how ones actions affect the world even after after death (paralleling N), but comes to peace with it knowing that your fight will always be picked up again by others, and in the end is able to walk hand in hand with Mio. The fourth verse skips to the end of Future Redeemed as Shulk, Rex, and A leave to become avatars, they assure Nikol, Glimmer, and Matthew that they are not alone and will not be gone forever, and to keep fighting on because the future they desire is in reach. As the credits end and the worlds become one again, the song speaks to every title, as all of our protagonists felt hesitation near the end of their journeys, but reassures them that the future is what they seek, and gives them the final push to move on.
It is truly a beautiful song that just has so much put into it and the credits in general, and the biggest love letter to the series.

The end of xeno 3 left me confused and lacking information, I floundered for a while trying to process it all.
I didn’t feel that at the end of FR. Whatever questions were left, I was happy with. I feel content. Satisfied.

  • @TheSpaceking12

Getting to klaus's world invoked within me the reaction I think that one piece fans will experience when they finally make it to laugh tale to find the treasure. I was cheering, I was bawling my eyes out, I was flabbergasted beyond words, my heart was racing at the rapid fire reveals, which made all of my wildest fantasies about this story all come true at once. I've dreamed of seeing Klauses world for a real-world decade. I've pondered the relationship that xcx and saga had to blade for literally years. I wondered about Ontos for half a decade. I adamanelty maintained that Alvis's dream wasn't in vain for over a year, to be met with vindication. I've been up at night before laying in my bed wondering what happened at the end of xc3 and whether or not Noah and Mio would get to be together again one day. The ending of this dlc made me feel things that words fail to convey properly. Even now, typing this out, the emotion it drags out of me is powerful. It was all there. All of my dreams. All of it. And it will go down as probably the greatest experience I've ever had engaging with a piece of media before in my life.
Another feeling I walked away with was that of vindication. For a whole year, I maintained that xc3 was the best game in the series, and I argued my theories and explanations for what elements of xc3 were deemed to be holes. I played this and was validated time in and time again. Origin was, in fact, based on core crystal technology. Alvis did, in fact, foresee this disaster and xc1s ending wasnt in vain. Annhilations were, in fact, the results of matter collision. Riku was, in fact, descended from Riki. The Sword of origin was, in fact, effectively acting as a monado replica. These were all things I read into and maintained as truth for the whole time. Only to be routinely told I was reading too far into things, that xc3 had no lore, and that it was wrong to piece together the puzzle. It was vindicating, no, you know what, liberating honestly, for the game to spell it out outright. I was right all along. Xc3 was the thinking man's story. And I was right to love it. To savor it as I did.

Personally, I just wanted 2 more things from FR
    1. I wish we got more from Panacea and Linka since I keep forgetting they were supposed to be with the party the whole time despite the fact they're 1/3rd of the City founders we see in the base game who we were told wanted their mentors represented instead. I just didn't feel like either of them had enough agency in the plot but I guess the story did have a lot to juggle
    2. I just wanted one more scene at the end where we get to see all of the characters we know living normal lives after everything they've been through and meeting one another after the worlds combined again. All I wanted was to see more of the happy ending they got rather than most of it being implied

Black Mountains were great. Lots of twistiness and exploration possibilities that weren't straightforward. Nothing super complex, but enough to make it quite engaging despite lack of openness, so it was a nice change of pace. It was also cool to keep picking up new sidequests so you could dip in and out of there, plus it was basically a rush of collectibles that filled out your final Gem and Accessory unlocks and whatnot, so it felt really fulfilling. I kinda wish it had a boss about halfway through, though. Final areas should always have a mid-boss!

It didn't just use visual and musical theming to make it a legacy title but the story itself and without making new additions u relevant which I think is really hard to pull of and fr did it for me.

great review! that noise also bugged me, you're not the only one. it was driving me nuts! matthew going off at the end is also explained by his founder statue in the base game, it states that he does eventually come back with more scattered city folks, but eventually sets out again for good after the city is more established, said to have left the governing of it to "founder doyle" (na'el). He mostly likely went off that second time to see and travel the world, like A tells him he should do in one affinity scene.

I think it’s really neat how my hopes for base XC3 were the exact opposite from yours yet we both ended up satisfied in the end.
I was worried they would lean *too much* into 1 & 2, leaving 3 and its characters unable to truly stand on their own or have their own identity. As such, I was satisfied with the connections we got in the base game, but I thought it would be really cool if the DLC could connect the series in the way you hoped the base game would. Either way, we both got a satisfying wrap up to XC3 as a whole either way, which is great.

I'll admit, I only got into the Xeno series in general in 2015 with the release of Xenoblade 3D. Shame I wasn't around during the time of Xenogears (I wasn't even a thought in my parents heads yet) and when Xenosaga came out I was (1) too young, and (2) didn't care about anything beyond Zelda lmao but seeing Shulk added in Smash 4, having a general curiosity about him, and choosing to try his game out, CHANGED me as a person oml being only 14 and only having a basic understanding of what was going on, it sparked an even bigger curiosity in me, and made me want to know more, especially since I had randomly heard mentions of an older "Xeno series" a couple times. I learned a bit about Xenogears and Xenosaga, it made me want to see more of this series and where it might go. Seeing this series develop, and learning more about where it came from, it had me thirsting for more. When I said this game changed me, I mean it REALLY did. It sparked my interest in psychology and philosophy, it set a really high bar for story telling and gameplay, and it had all the amazing music to go with it. In short: this series ruined all other games for me, and I can say with confidence that it's my favorite of all time, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here on

Yea, some alternate costumes or something would have been nice. Otherwise, if I wanted a 'different playstyle', I'd just switch to a different character. For a compact experience, that was enough to keep things interesting among what's basically six different classes.

Future Redeemed solidified the Xenoblade Trilogy as my favorite video game series.
I wasn’t too satisfied with the ending of base 3 since my expectations for it weren’t met as I anticipated. I interpreted Nintendo saying it would blend Xenoblade 1 and 2 and although it’s what they did, it’s not how I expected it. But little by little my appreciation for it grew despite my gripes with the game as a whole initially.
Overall, before FR I thought 3 was a solid game but not better than 1 and 2 imo but still close and solid.
But man, once they released the teaser and the trailer, and I played the game, all my expectations were met. I wanted a game where Shulk and Rex could interact, answer some questions from the series as a whole, a bit more fan service and I got just that.
And AGAIN FR wasn’t what I had expected initially because I was team epilogue with the DLC but they instead went the prequel route and pulled it off successfully! It’s weird to explain. It wasn’t what I expected at first but they met all my expectations and then some.
And then the way they ended it was perfect. I would be lying if I said I didn’t want a cutscene showing all our heroes together once the worlds merged but they don’t need to show us that. What they showed is proof enough that we got the best ending.
And I am so satisfied with this ending that I strongly wish this is the end of this Xenoblade saga. They can continue with X. I would like an X for Switch and X2 but I do not want to see Shulk, Rex, Noah, Matthew and them again because I feel like their story and their world ended in a neat way and I don’t want them going through more turmoil.
I’ve never played Saga or Gears or any of that so I didn’t have all the context for the radio but despite all of that I think this neatly wrapped up all 3 games.
Thank you Takahashi for such a marvelous series. Thank you Nintendo for enabling Monolith Soft and Takashi for creating these games and their pace and view. I look forward to the future of the series in other worlds and stories yet to be explored. These truly were the Xenoblade Chronicles.

    Some spoiler thoughts:
Was not expecting to love Matthew the way I did, who knew what I needed in my life was an east London Roadman JRPG protag, he's so likeable fun to listen to, felt so great hearing him use slang me and my brothers use and he is such an amazing character in terms of his symbolism. A character from the past (in the base game) who we shouldn't forget as he represents striving towards the future. Being the best of Shulk Rex and Noah's character arcs (as in how he summarises their journeys) while being his own person bridging us to the future of the series
Loved the replayable gameplay, matching different arts together to make different effects led to hours of customisation for me.
Loved Alpha as a villain as he's the exact opposite of Z showing the base game theme of balance between both approaches to go forward to the future while preserving the past.
Some things being kept ambiguous was annoying but some other thins like Pnuema and Logos' role as N and Matthew's blade are really fun to talk and theorise about.
    Loved the NPC's really memorable
Voice actors killed it especially Rex's
The rewards for simply exploring the world were great
    Good side quests
    Amazing music
Only a few problems, wish we had more answers to certain questions, more mortivations for that certain character, bigger rewards for completing the community, a cooler secret boss and can't believe they got me so invested in Matthew only to leave his journey unwritten (which is a weird good problem to have? Like I honestly wouldn't mind a clone wars style game about the 1000 years in Aionios with small contained stories about important characters which contribute to the maingame being fun narratives while having important lore which is only because this DLC got me to care about Aionios as a world way more than the base game.
But yeah amazing DLC and can't wait for the future andcan't wait for the compilations about hey base game question? DLC answered it here.
Thanks for the video good stuff and great to get this off my chest.

I just loved future redeemed. We get to see old faces, get a ton of fun side quests, etc. About the characters, A, rex and shulk are great, I didn't like matthew too much, but he eventually grew on me, Na'el I like a lot, she just feels wholesome and she serves as great motivation. Personally, I didn't feel like they needed to flesh out nikol too much because it is super easy to see his personality is pretty much nervous shulk, and I felt satisfied by that.
However, I do feel like glimmer started out kind of strong, then was just used for rex to play off of (fitting, considering two.) As much as I love her design (words cannot say how nice it is to see pyras design without a super distracting and revealing outfit) I feel like glimmer has a new personality that we just don't really get to see too much of. But really, that is my only gripe.
The plot is just as understandable as two and three, just more reliant on memory and less random plot elements. It plays wonderfully off of three, which already plays off of one and two, and feels like a wonderful sendoff to the saga.
I got to mention this, personally, seeing characters that have anime-like designs next to trees and buildings that look like they came straight out of a different game had me laughing so badly and I don't know why, but I love it. (Also, the suprises after you beat the game which I won't spoil, were so uneeded, but they just show how much they know their audience and care about what they were making.) Such an experience.

My biggest hope for Xenoblade post-Future Redeemed is that they leave the original numbered trilogy alone, and that they follow it with Xenoblade 4 through 6 as another self contained trilogy with just the odd reference to the Klaus saga. That is so that people new to Xenoblade can get into future entries in the franchise without having to play 3 other games and their respective story DLCs/epilogues to get the full enjoyment. Sort of like how Xenoblade is a separate entity to Xenogears, or Xenosaga with the odd reference or paralel to each prior series. I'd also be game to them remastering Xenoblade X like they did Xenoblade 1, and follow it up with 2 sequels, even if they make it a side series.

There are a few questions that I would still have liked answers for, yet, at large I’m very satisfied with the game! I believe that, as an additional story, I preferred Torna over FR, purely based on how I connected with the main cast
I think FR was great, but would have liked a bit more out of Glimmer and Niqol , as well a tiny little bit more of A and Matthew towards the end of the story
In regards to accessibility, this is my fave out of all of the different renditions of Xenoblade, to the point is the first one I 100%
I still prefer Xeno2+Torna a bit more, but Xeno3+FR are amazing

  • @JohnSmith-lh3ht

Future Redeemed ended up being everything I could've hoped for, and more. Before the announcement, I was afraid of the idea of a prequel to 3, fearing that it'd be a retread of Torna, thematically; a distant tragedy with a foregone conclusion. However, we got the best of both worlds; epilogue and prequel.
We saw further into the destruction of the first City, and the Founders of the second one. We got to know them as characters, and as people.
We saw returning characters iterated upon and continued with consistency and care for their previous appearances.
Furthermore, they managed to tie these two threads together using one of base 3's foremost themes; the importance of family. Literally every single one of the Founders is directly related to an established character in some manner. The second City and its constituent houses are not just the wardens of the old guard's ideals, they are their flesh and blood as well.
Matthew and A had such a wonderful dynamic. I would be remiss not to state how badly I felt for Na'el. How real her pain was.
Nikol and Glimmer were plenty fun by themselves, and seeing them bounce off the others was great.
It warmed and broke my heart in equal measure to see Rex and Shulk grapple with fatherhood within the hellscape of Aionios. And both of them reached new heights I had never dreamed of.
And lastly, Future Redeemed did not end like Torna did. Sure, Origin was reclaimed by Moebius, and the Cent-Omnia region, along with so many nostalgic locales were annihilated, but the Liberators and the City survivors evacuated. In the end, their hope carried on, and would come full circle, over a millennium later.
I once said I'd be disappointed if Shulk, Rex, and Alvis were the only ones to return. And that proved to be wrong, for me. In fact, I'm more content than ever when thinking about the future of the old heroes, something that always vexed me just a little. I don't mind that we didn't get to see favorites of mine, such as Fiora, Dunban, Reyn, Zeke, Morag, Tora, and others. They weren't forgotten. Having ended on such a high note, I think I can be content to see little of them going forward. A nod here or there.

My biggest issue with Future Redeemed is that it wasnt included in the base game and or released much closer to the original release. If youre a long time fan of the series, the base game is a good game on its own but doesnt really tell you anything you wanted to know while playing it. Future redeemed is basically everything the longtime fans were looking for in the base game. I say thats a wealness because i spent the 6-8 months after 3 thinking it was the wealest in the series and was left feeling a bit disappointed. Long time fans shouldn't have to feel that way after beating a game in the series.

Xenoblade series is really the best like the Final Fantasy series and ended with a bang like all series reach a end one day. I love the Xenoblade Chronicles three has Final Fantasy like similarities like Type Zero where Noah and everyone dies and gets reborn losing their memories of their past life similar to Ace and his classmates went through. Dissidia Final Fantasy series where Noah and the gang find out there are trapped in a endless cycle and been fighting a endless war by the ones behind it like the Final Fantasy series protagonist's went through and manage to break it for good. Final Fantasy XIII trilogy where like Lighting and her friends, Noah and everyone went against their creators like Z, his like Jack Garland says if he was there to them: "I knew you start spouting !@#$%^& the second I saw you." disciples ,as well Bhunivelze, Linzei, Pulse, other cruel Fal'Cies except for Etro, and Bartandelizs to end the suffering caused by them of everyone working together and restart the worlds with no need for gods anymore except for the dead that need a god for the rebirth of the past lives in the new worlds.
