      its not very entertaining tho honestly. Like a dude said in a comment above, hes only entertaining to ppl that like him or are a fan of him. I dont find him that entertaining, funny or any of that personally. I just hear a dude talking and know it wont make a difference to my experience whether i hear it or not. Good commentators elevate the experience for the fan, which is why Rogan is the best sports commentator of all time

    I like Cruz on commentary, he is very professional, like Anik, and has his full attention on the fight. Some of the other commentators, DC for example, sometimes seem to treat the commentary booth as a podcast, as Jack Slack likes to point out, fooling around instead of doing his job, which I find incredibly disrespectful to the fighters

    The issue isn’t whether Dom was right or wrong in his assessment. The issue is that, as both a friend and a colleague, he should not have aired it the way that he did. He could very well have jeopardized DC’s career, especially given how much hate he already receives from ignorant “fans”.
    There is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. Dom went about it in the worst possible way.

    People like Cruz need to realize that probably 80% of the audience that watches ufc are casual fans who dont care about the technicalities of the sport. Some commentators need to be technical for the hardcore fans and others need to simply be entertaining like DC for the casual fans who just wanna watch two dudes beat eachother up

    • @nunyabizwacks6711
      @nunyabizwacks6711 Před 2 lety +3

      its harder for casual fans to learn and possibly get deeper into the sport with a team full of guys that provide nothing, which is common now between anik, dc, bisping, and slightly better felder. They are fun guys to listen to but they are basic as hell and just repeat the same shit over and over. Bisping is decent to listen to, like on his podcast and stuff, but him and DC are the worst, and i would prolly choose DC as the worst if i had to, not counting the play by play guys, anik and brendan. Its wierd to cuz when DC first started he seemed ok. But also maybe thats just because he was new and decent at talking, in hindsight. Best commentary team, which doesnt happen because brendan wouldnt make this team, but imo the best possible team is Brendan, Rogan, and Dom. I also like how Rogan and Dom will challenge each other which gives 2 perspectives and shows how 2 knowledgable ppl can still see the same thing 2 diff ways.

    Daniel is simply present as a commentator for pleasantries, similar to a character casted for comic relief. Whilst Dominick utilizes analyses incessantly, and sustains an analytical demeanor, Daniel is present mostly to have a good time. Dominick: near deadpan. Daniel: jocular. Joe Rogan: mostly jocular. Jon Anik: Solemn. I believe all commentators maintaining solemnity creates a dull ambience. It is subjective and opinionated. Some desire for a formal and stern presentation by the commentating booth whilst viewing the bouts, and some desire for a mere spark to break the monotony/usher in geniality for short increments.

      its weird because he was better when he first started and has regressed. Maybe the success has turned his light out. He def seems more "corporate-like" and shilly these days, and like hes just going thru the motions and doing what he needs to to get by, which is fine if you can do that, but its like he just doesnt have a passion in what hes doing anymore, now hes nice and cozy and in good with the UFC. And when you dont have much passion in what you do, even if ur pretty good at the job, it just makes it better if you do and it shows. Hed not trying to show that he can do a good job anymore because hes in there now

    In eSports we have two different commentary roles, play-by-play casters and color casters. The former is tasked with narrating the action and current events of the game, the latter is supposed to fill in the down time with contextual knowledge and analysis. It just seems to me like DC is the former and Cruz is the latter. Both seem to be essential parts of the puzzle.
    However I will say, in eSports, the skill required from play-by-play casters involves recognising and narrating 50 million different things happening on the screen at once. They need to talk REALLY fast and clearly, whilst knowing exactly what to say and what not to say. In MMA, it doesn't often seem like this is the case. There is far far less things to comment on. So it does seem like DC has the easy, low effort role that requires far less work.

    • @Al77343
      @Al77343 Před rokem

      There's also play by play and colour in MMA, how efficient the play by play announcer is really depends on the fighter, max is way more active than adesanya for example.
      There's also the fact that "eSports" is as wide as "sports" a play by play of league of legends or counter strike is going to be harder than a play by play of mortal Kombat.

      funny how everyone repeats it and is the ONLY time they can come up with, on top of the fact that even the #1 person in the world at anything that does their craft on a regular basis is gonna have mistakes. Im sure hes had a worse take than that, and honestly wasnt even that crazy if your a person that thought conor stood a chance in that fight. I didnt, and i agreed with rogan that he was just getting smashed, but its no big deal and if thats the only thing ppl can come up with or more likely repeat (since mma casuals are parrots) to discredit what Dom said is pretty lame. Sure maybe DC has a bigger, more flamboyant personality, but Cruz is 10x a better commentator

  • @shagnasty1717

    I agreed with doms call out over DC because DC has also spoken in a VERY favoring tone when it comes to someone he knows… showing a lot of favoritism although the opponent may not be losing that bad the way he words it dishes out mixed feelings from the results of the fight.
    I know sometimes the person who wins (for example Islam) doesn’t really promote themselves further in the post fight interview … I’m sorry but that’s not your job DC walk out the cage and let him have his moment he’s not part of promoting more fighters.
    I feel as if DC didn’t get embarrassed publicly I don’t think he would have changed literally anything about his preparation for fights.
    I also know sometimes that the fight not be playing out in such a way that commentary is not necessary to include all the background knowledge of the fighters (in the cage) past fights and tendencies, but not having any ability to do that and just sit and watch the fight like you’re watching it with your buddies in the couch is not a professional way to hold the commentary standard.
    I think a better role for him would be to only do the prefight shows or not have him when he has either trained with that person or is friends with them.
    I’d also like to note that DC has been commentating since before he became the double champ so doms call out over this preparation is LONG overdue in my opinion

    Dom is by far the better commentator in terms of analysis but there's definitely a place for DC's commentary as well, as elementary as it might be. A lot of people sometimes have fights on and aren't really fully paying attention (when they're watching a full card) so sometimes play by play of literally what is happening is kind of good.

    You might be correct but everyone has their own style of commentary. Dc might not do extensive research but he is highly entertaining and does explain what's going during the fight which is crucial for the audience. The commentators all bring something different which in turn makes the commentary feel "complete" and much better to watch.
