@@ChrisbyBike As a happy owner of a "Ligthweight" (black version!) I did find the original type Brompton rack, also a longer version, made from titanium, instead of the ordinary Alu versions, but I have lately bought and got the more solid/heavier, black H&H type version also, as Yours (I'm not sure it is actually an original H&H, but it looks the part).
My large, new 10 cm wheels functions fine also, as I'm now used the have my heels turned free, when riding my Brompton. And I have replaced the extension-bar, for the easy wheels, with a special black version with a carbon tube in the middle, and alu to the side, for bolting it to the bike. I'm not sure it is actually any lighter than other versions, but it looks good!! I have now replaced my seat post with a standard, solid black titanium version, which is a little short for me, and it "sinks" while using it. A fact I found out, as I may pull it all out to the stop before use, so I need to adjust it at intervals, when riding. I know that for a normal seat post it is possible to get some special grease to fix it in the frame, and I may try that, but Brompton has a plastic insert in the frame, so I don't know if it will function?

I went through a stage of trying to 3d print my own easy wheels. The ones on the rack seem to be the ones under the most stress so I got inline skate wheels there.
Also, to stop the bolts undoing themselves I put blue threadlock on the bolts. I was taught by a bunch of racing drone pilots to always use it when screwing metal into metal so figured it would apply to the bike too, and so far so good

@@ChrisbyBike Also a product named "Locktite" is fine for this job (It comes in versions both as glue and just preventing a bolt or nut to go free). One of my hinge screws got loose from its axle, so when I unscrew it, its only the wheel that unscrews and its axle stays inside the bike, to eventually being unscrewed by the little security bolt, which keep it stuck inside the frame, unlike the orginal locking bolts, which are able to be totally removed from the frame.

@@ChrisbyBike I'm sure You are able to find Locktite Online! As I have used it on my black "wheel" and its bolt, they are now fixed together and doesn't separate any more! And with the extra "security bolt" at the other end of my, un-original bolts, prevents them from being totally unscreved from the frame, and to eventually become lost during that!!
I wonder why didn't Brompton think about that solution also, having done an efford for the saddles pin not to be removed from the bike?? It is hard to ride a Brompton without having any security from its being folded, during the ride! ;-)

    • @stolenorange

      Hi, what's blue threadlock?

  • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188

One of the first things I did on my new Lightweight Brompton was to change the easy wheels to a larger, custom size, with titanium bolts. And also to find new carbon handlebars, both an H and a Sport, for test, to see which one functioned the best for riding. As a former racing and MTB rider I like to lean forward. But I do like a conservative look and set of grips made from leather and with a Brompton, folding bike sign on them! At least for now I haven't planned any travels with my bike, in my B&W hard box, but I did bring it to Danish Bornholm some time ago, and rode round a lot during that stay, going up very steep hills with a non functioning chain gear. It became fixed when I came home.

But I got it back with a new, original tensioner, and now it functions again, and I again had it on a trip to the Rocky Island of Bornholm, north of Germany in the Baltic sea. The old tensioner seemingly has the same size and lenght of arms as the original, so eventually I will try to refit it, and if it functions, I will claim fraud from the dealer!

And I had use for all my 6 gears in the hilly area around our house, and sometimes even had to walk uphill for long stretches (I'm an old and too heavy man for this shit!)!! And going down again, I did hope that my brakes could stand the strain and heat, as I often had to stop before I met the "cattle protection", a row of thick iron tubes accross the road, over a ditch, so that only cars could pass them, and they would keep the free living cattle and sheep inside the area. I have seen that it is possible to buy a set of wheels in a wider version, but the further out they come, it is more easy to hit them with a heel! And the smaller diameter wheels are mostly useless, unless on a very flat surface, from my opinion. Myself I have bought both a standard, short Brompton rack, and a longer version (both Titanium, of course, for my Lightweight!), but I could only find them as "metallic", so I intend to give them a proper black finish when it becomes a little warmer up here in the high North. As a former, also industrial painter, besides my education, I will be able to make them look at least as good as the bikes other black equipment! 😉

  • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188

Okay, I can - now see Your "Horns", in each end of the handlebar, and they go on each side of the wheel! I have wondered how it was possible to use those, but on mine I have two "classic" round leather ones, with a "Brompton" folding bike print on them, and locked and secured in each end with a screw! Of two possible length versions I could only fit the short one on my classic H. or - maybe M. handlebar (I'm not that sure of which version I have on my 2020 Lightweight?). I also use leather flaps on my mudguards. It's a BROMPTON, and it looks like one!

If you live in a city tha rains without notice .

@@ChrisbyBikeI've always wanted to ask u that but after watching so many videos of yours, u never mentioned. But how ironic, after asking you then i just saw your video about the mini rack and there you mentioned why you don't use fenders ☺

      Hi Sean Yushi
Yes I've made that video because I noticed that I received a lot of questions about the fenders and the triangle rack.
But if I lived in London I would definitely use Paralamas 👍🏻😊🌷

where did yo get your velcro strap from?

    • @ChrisbyBike
      @ChrisbyBike  Před 3 lety

      Hi Dale Herbert
Any good Velcro will do. It has to be at least 35 centimeters long to be able to go around the frame and the wheel.
Here are some ideas on Amazon.UK

Are the easywheels sold by brompton?

    • @ChrisbyBike
      @ChrisbyBike  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi
Yes, they made a bigger EasyWheels from the original one.
But you can find it easy at Aliexpress and Amazon.
There is a link on my video description to the ones I'm using. They are very solid and easy to push.

The small wheels are "useless" unless on a totally flat surface. I have just found an expensive set of "10 cm" wheels from China!!! ;-)

      Hi Finn Carl Bomholt Sørensen
The EasyWheel is the first upgrade that we do. It makes a lot of difference on rolling our Brompton

@@ChrisbyBike At first I upgraded to the larger, original plastic Brompton versions, but then found some more flashy and special metal wheels, but also I think around 8 cm. But now I have found a set of 10 cm wheels, which I have ordered from China. And now waaaaaaits for to arrive.

      Hi Finn Carl Bomholt Sørensen
The bigger wheels are a lot better to push the Brompton.
      And look cooler 😊👍🏻

      Hi Tony Lam
      That would help a lot.
But this way give us a chance to have a personalized Brompton 👍🏻😊
