Top 5 PS4 Problems With Solutions

  • Top 5 PS4 Problems:
    1) HDMI port problems. The first few models of PS4 had a huge problem with bad HDMI ports. The PS4 Slim and PS4 PRO don't have as much of a problem with it but it still does happen.
    2) Turns On Then Back Off/Blue Light of Death. This is a common problem with all PS4's...even the newer models have this problem.
    3) Overheating. Most consoles that have this problem either have a faulty fan or they need to be cleaned. Many times cleaning and replacing the thermal paste will fix this issue.
    4) Disc Drive Problems. Many consoles have had problems with the rollers popping out of place when the disc is pulled out quickly. They also have had a lot of problems with the laser lens not reading discs.
    5) Cockroaches. This is a common problem, especially with consoles from the southern US. PS4's are perfect cockroach houses. Bug infested consoles are not covered under warranty so Sony will not fix them. The best thing to do is to keep them from getting in in the first place.

Hey, this is a very informative video! I appreciate having this compilation of common problems with these consoles so that in case anything does happen I can be sure to be prepared, or in the very least informed. I’m familiar with most of these problems, but the fixes are very useful to keep in mind! However, I do have a question that may or may not be completely unrelated to any of the issues mentioned here:
I have a FAT model PS4 (it’s a limited edition though so I believe it does have some slight improvements like power use in comparison to the launch models). Sometimes when I’m playing it, I may hear this quiet little “beep” coming from within the system. It’s not nearly as loud as the powering off or overheating beep, but it can be heard if you’re paying attention. I am not sure if it occurs in random increments or not, but it is somewhat concerning to me whenever I do hear it. I can’t recall if this was always something that happened, as the first couple of years I’ve had it have been a little blurry, but I do in fact believe this has been occurring for the past 2 years or so. Is this a sign of some unknown issue or is it the machinery within the console just doing it’s normal stuff whilst running? Thanks.

Hi i have a ps4 white light problem and need advice.
So i traded a faulty xbox one original for a supposed faulty ps4 original from a person that fixes consoles that wanted the Xbox for spares.
So on the day i got home with the ps4 i used my ps3 cables to power it on and it miraculously powered on which surprised me as the controller was connected properly using the usb cable.
But i saw the screen flash black then back to the home screen which i didn't know what is was then it did it once more and was displaying perfectly.
After about 5 mins of waiting for it too show some errors or switching off because i did not expect it to work i plugged in my usb speakers to the other usb port on the front while the controller was plugged in.
That was when the screen went black instantly. I didn't know what happened and pressed the eject button and a copy of GTA 5 came out which means the console was still powered on.
When i plug the controller and speakers in on my ps3 super slim at the same time is says too many devices drawing power something like that.
So i think it drew too much power on the ps4 and caused a wlod on the ps4.
Im trying to do a home repair with minimal tools and if you could give me some idea of what the usb ports could have shorted eg a transistor or fuses or something.
It still powers on and everything but that was the defining factor i think that contributed to the white light of death.
Any recommendations would help as ive watched a lot of CZcams videos and most are the ic chip or some transistor .
Its a original ps4 with wlod

  • @waltercomunello121

The solder balls cracking problem is common to all flip chips / BGA mountings (i.e. Xbox/PS2 onwards, strikingly prominent in the seventh generation with Xbox 360 and PS3) due to the redistribution of metals in the solder alloy and even on the copper pads themselves, that get sort of "eaten away" by solder to an extent. This thing is well known since the 90s in scientific articles, before even the PS2 came to be. Flip chips are basically time bombs likely to fail sooner or later IF serious heat sinking countermeasures are not taken. Redistribution of metal is faster at high temperatures. Board warping and solder ball cracking kick in earlier if the console isn't cooled down properly; this sort of design flaws contribute to the overall behaviour of the solder.
Reballing isn't guaranteed to fix the problem; flip chips have tiny solder balls between the chip itself (that shiny rectangle on the smaller organic board) and the organic board, which is soldered directly on the motherboard. If those tiny solder balls fail, there ain't any "reballing" that can fix it, only a complete CPU/GPU/APU replacement with a brand new one.

    • @asakayosapro
      @asakayosapro Před 2 lety +6

The real problem is crappy lead-free solder.
Replacing the crappy fake lead-free solder with real leaded solder balls makes for proper reballing repairs as long as the chip itself as well as the actual pads on the board and the chip are not damaged.
Some of the chips on the older consoles had RAM chips BGA-mounted on the processor chip base itself, and more often than not those would get bad as well; the fix was to de-lid the chip and attempt to reball those, but at that point the effort and time spent was only barely worth it to save the one chip - and all because of inferior solder, and the environmentalist crazies who made it happen.

After watching so many videos and experience that you have, I am writing to you With all due respect and love from India🙏.
My PS4 just broke down 2 days back..it all started with a freeze in the screen while playing battlefield 4 campaign mode. Then wen I switched on the PS4, it said " checking system storage" and then it switched off again. After that they asked to reinstall the 7.55 update in USB and reboot.i also did that...since then I have been keeping on doing the same.
Sometimes after initialization, system does turn on and wen I try loading games from cd or downloading apps, I have noticed that it takes alot of time to load a game from the CD which is very unusual.
In a while it lags, system freezes or turns black automatically.
Finally system asks for the 7.55 update in a USB again.
With all hope I am writing to you and praying you to provide a solution for my above issue..Thanks bhaiya( Back in India it means elder brother)🙏

Old video but still gonna comment.
The powerstrip issue could be due to a voltage drop.
The longer the power line to the device is, the less voltage remains due to the resistance in the extended line.
Now if it is a really cheap powerstrip, it could have really thin lines, which have a higher resistance.
Or if you are far from the house / power net connection you also might have a voltage drop which adds to the power strip voltage drop.
One could try to run the console on a regulated power supply and drop the voltage a bit.
The US usually has 110V right? Maybe check how much you can lower it till you get that error.

As most support specialists know, doing a complete format and repartition of a drive will most likely fix any kind of curroption on a disk drive. But the problem is how do you recover the lost data during this procedure when the PS4 drive is not recognizable to windows. How do you salvage the drive from a GPT protected partition that does not allow you to use any disk checking tools or any sort of diagnostics. That is the big 1 million dollar question that needs to be answered and I been searching and searching for hrs trying to find a damn resolution to this problem. Recovering the data > Reformated the hardrive > reinstalling the drive with the new firmware update > and finally, restoring all your data to the new formatted drive. Anyone have any solutations at all with how to perform these tasks.

    • @ledumpsterfire6474
      @ledumpsterfire6474 Před 2 lety

Agreed, but it's probably going to take some serious reverse engineering workarounds to figure that out.
If people could do it easily, Sony would lose out on all the money they make because people tragically lost a year worth of save data, leading them to buy PS+ for the save data cloud backups for the future. Make it easy enough for the average person to just pop it into their computer and recover the data, they lose out on all but the laziest of offline gamers' money.

I've watched your ps4 videos, absolute terrific stuff. I've got a strange problem that I was hoping you could advise me on regarding disc drives. It seems that an individual game can't be read by my ps4 slim. I've tried several different copies of the same game (returned and replaced by the store)
The PS4 recognises the disc and it allowed me to do the initial install. When I put the disc in it starts to run but always cuts out saying the disc is damaged, but theyve all been brand new clean discs. Sometimes the game loads up and let's me get to the in-game menu, but always cuts out before I load the actual game in. This has happened on 2 of the 3 copies over tried.
I reckon after watching your videos it's probably a dusty laser in the disc drive and it's just barely clinging on. No problem playing any other games or DVDs, I guess its probably just in need of a good clean. Any thoughts?

TronicsFix my Ps4 Pro runs extremely loud, especially after a few hours of gameplay and sometimes even after just a few minutes after starting a bigger or more complicated game like Skyrim or No Mans Sky. It will even kick me from the game with an error code and then the entire system gets really laggy even just when scrolling through games in my library or navigating through the settings menus. I do not own any digital games and my 850-something gb hardive is near full of digital games. Could this performance issue be caused by storage overload or something? I mean to say, does the storage capacity effect the systems performance?

    • @EggmanRobotnik
      @EggmanRobotnik Před 5 lety

I did notice a slowdown especially in the menus when my system storage was very full. It's like a computer, it will take longer to index all the stuff you have. After I cleaned up (I didn't even have enough to create a save lol), the system became more stable and fluid.

TronicsFix. Thank you very much for uploading this educational videos. That is very appreciated.
I have a ps4 that will not recognize my controller in either of the front usb ports. I used a USB tester, and and I an getting 5V, but th wired controller that I use does not go into charging mode like it usually does on a normal ps4. I tried swapping the BT module but that did not fix the issue instead the ps4 would not turn on. Maybe I applied to much heat to the donor chip and I end up runing it.
Could it be that maybe the USB CHIP that control the USB ports went bad and it needs to be replace? If that is the case what is the name of that chip?
    Thank you!

I bought my PS4 2 months after it launched.
It was running smoothly until very recently. It started it kick me out of my games, not any game, games with high computing powers (that's what I noticed) such as MGSV, Mass Effect, The last of us, and Bllodborne.

Hi Steve. Thank you for your great videos. I'm a subscriber. Please help with this question...
I noticed that GameStop has a computer and maybe some software that they hook up the game consoles to I guess maybe to run a quick check to make sure all the things are working correctly ?
What's the best way or the best ways and fastest ways to hook up consoles and make sure that they're working properly and don't have any underlying issues so that we can sell them confidently without having people wanting to return them ?
Are we able to get that same software that GameStop has and connect the consoles and it just does a quick run-through and let us know right away or are we forced to bring them home and play them for hours and hours for a week straight to verify everything is ok before we could even resell it ?
I had sold a PS4 a while back and I had used it for about a month straight but I only play it about 45 minutes to no more than one hour straight each time. After I sold it the guy wanted to return it because he told me after playing it for an hour straight that it shuts off but that it still works but it shuts off after 1 hour.
I didn't know it had that problem otherwise I would have mentioned it in the listing.
Thank you. Anybody knowledgeable please reply soon.

Usual scenario: I pause and have to go do something. Controller cuts out, I come back and press ps4 button but controller doesn't cut back on. The only way I can get it to reconnect is by powering off the console all the way. Controller reset doesn't work, connecting with usb wire doesn't work and using two other working controllers (one just purchased two weeks ago) doesn't work.
