- Luis Maria, the owner of Lucky Repairs, shows us how to clean and repair a dust-clogged PlayStation 4. He cleans it by disassembling it piece by piece, detailing every crevice. Over the years and with frequent use, the inside of a PlayStation can collect layers of dust. This dust can restrict essential airflow that is essential to cool the system down while it's running a powerful game.

Deep Cleaning Every Part Of A PlayStation 4 | Deep Cleaned | Insider
It looks like that client played their PS4 in an open barn with cows and sheep. It looked like he just bought a new PS4 when he finished. Lol
I got a feeling that he barely vacuums his house and doesn't bring in that much fresh air in.
Or He lives in detroit
Or he lived between 1930 and 1936 and the PS4 has survived the Dustbowl.
Y’all think this bad my ps4 survived ww2 then
@@vexy-_-1122 you mean it will survive ww3
There is a bit of ps4 in your dust.
💀🤣you made my day. Thank you!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣funniest CZcams comment in 2024 so far for me
I literally followed you step by step, I was so scared but I took the time. Cleaned everything so well and my ps4 is quiet and looking brand new ! Thank you so much !
Noob tips:
-Buy thermal paste before you start.
-Take your time, it took me 3 full hours, I went uber slow.
-Be gentle, no need to force anything.
-Use different bowls to put your screws in for your different stages.
-Missing a screw will not be the end of the world, dont panic.
- A tiny automatic screwdriver is a treat, but make sure its not powerful.
whats a good thermal paste ? :3
You can keep the screws in an ice mould/tray so you know where each one is from
@@jassy2radarctic mx-6 or noctua nt-h1
Is thermal paste needed?
@@haroldinodeleonskie1578 No, but it's VERY important. When making the laptop, the manufacturers use very cheap thermal paste, which dries up very quickly and creates an air pocket between the paste and the CPU, which can lead to the CPU overheating.
If you live in an area prone to insect infestations I recommend you clean the inside of of consuls regularly. Even if you keep your home cleaned religiously bugs are going to get inside. Roaches in particular love game consuls and the machines themselves are unintentionally effective roach motels.
Ps4's are 5 star hotels for roaches
I tried to clean my consul with spirit gum but she got angry and slapped me
He has a video where it has a bunch of roaches on his tik tok 🤢
@Mrs G Only the usa problem are they
I both love and hate that you just told me that... lol
Did this a year ago. Was really overdue. When I turn it on now the fan is more relaxed in the sound. 9 years of long play sessions meant that I should be cleaning it every 5-6 years.
I recommend two at most.
@@yb6036depends on how often its played
Thank you for the thorough instructional video! My console was in need of so much care, and without your video, I never would have known how to even begin taking better care of it.
Jesus christ dude is it rhat goddamn dusty
Pleased to find it wasn't as bad as the one he found for this video, but dust buildup definitely was the culprit of the overheating problem I was having.
Crawling up a wholes?
This video was anything but thorough especially step 1. He doesn’t say the screws are behind the labels.
What is ur problem ? So what if I can want to drink beer but at lease I don’t smoke cigarettes no more
If he made a channel showing the timelapse and the before vs. after footage on YT, I'd definitely sub to it.
Dedication to his work is really appreciated 👏
older devices are perfect for expanding your knowledge and gaining enough experience to feel comfortable with tech.
Its so wierd that stuff like this dont just have easy removable+washable filters. Ages ago when i created my own media furniture, i added a panel that covers the front and the rear with pc dustfilter. All collects there so once awhile i just clean it with a damp cloth. Easy peasy.
Feller does a damn fine job. Well done, sir!
I remember that fan can power a jet engine, it always sounds like it 🤣
There’s something incredibly satisfying about this
I thought the same thing, especially when he removed the big chunks of dust on the heat sink grills lol
Thanks very much for your detailed video. I followed this and replaced the thermal paste. I've never done this before. Ps4 now works great
That first version with the light down the middle is still the coolest outta the ps4s made 🤙🏽
Looks like they might be an occasional smoker as well. Some of that dust looked like it had some tar or grease mixed in. I cleaned a PC that belonged to a smoker and the inside was sticky with tar.
I smoke next to my pc literally, its still clean even after years.
vape maybe
I cleaned my ps4 slim yesterday after 6 years and it had a fat pinch of dust lol
If that’s what happens to a ps4 when it’s just in the vicinity imagine what smoking does to your lungs 😣
@@scpnoobersmaybe you're not as dirty as the owner that owns the PS4 in this video 🤔
I work In hvac and refrigeration. Maintaining a good air flow is vital for efficiency In both pieces of equipment
I had same problem. Last week I changed the thermal paste with new Arctic MX-6 and changed all thermal pads with Arctic TP-3. Now my PS4 Pro is ultrasilent. I also made made sure my ps4 is in a open place for air to circulate properly. Make sure your PS4's tiny feets are intact. If some feets have broken raise it with some bluetack or buy new feets
Would Arctic mx-4 make a difference ? And thermal pads ?
what's the right thickness of TP-3 thermal pads?
(0,5, 1,0 or 1,5mm ?)
Are they of the same thickness on the opposite side?
---
The only problem with arctic pads is that they are not adesive (very good for dissipation, but not so good for assembling without moving)
Best video on the subject. Thank you for all you do 🙏
imo cleaning off old thermal paste is one of the most satisfying things in existence
along with wiping off the remains of melted thermal pads off of vram chips (totally not speaking from experience with cleaning my old laptop)
Thank you for the update, Insider..!! That reminds me of PS3 I purchased from a co-worker in the past. I tried but failed to clean it up. 🤣
As a PROUD PS4 Owner/Sony Fanby, this was DEFINITELY something I needed to see!!!
It's surprising how much dust some console collect great job
You can open the disk drive up too. Just opened mine the other week after 6 years and had dust build up so wiped everything including censor. The whole reason I opened it up is cause it kept ejecting disks but the problem was the button so I removed the ribbon cable to the button. It works now and I just eject it on the menu.
I've been using my ps4 since 2016 haven't opened it yet and it still works perfectly, I must note that I'm not a heavy user
Thanks for the info brotha you told me what I think the problem is at the end great videos 👍🏾
This is soo satisfying to watch
Guys like this dude, well they’re doing the lords work ✊
Can you imagine how filthy the house was that this belonged to?
I think this ps4 owner bought it when it first came out and never cleaned it until now, you did a great job ps4
Lucky 🍀 for the W! Located in South Houston, Tx. Hit them up. Extremely professional and as you can see through the video. They know there stuff. 👏🏼
I was Reserved on opening and cleaning my PS4 S but I finally did it and it worked.
The loud Fan Noise is gone and runs as quiet as a mouse
I can’t believe it worked soooo well it saved me money and possibly my PS4S
TY Tech Guys
Replace the thermal pad on the DRAM chip located surrounded by the APU also. That thing normally most cleaning shops fail to replace on service.
What type of thermal pad?
@@hdidvk-ey9dphonestly doesn't matter what thermal pad you use as long as it's the correct thickness
Love how you precursor the internet rage about the thermal paste amount :)
Post-apocalyptic PS4.
Never had problems with my PS4, but my PS5 begun shutting off on its own. So I opened and cleaned it, the dust was minimal and there was some clogging on the radiator blades, so I blew that away, got some fans for the back to suck air out faster, and now it doesn't turn off. PS5s are pretty sensitive to dust and debry. They are on the edge of overheating when playing big PS5 titles, so it is a delicate balance.
You must have the Launch model since I had mine and it overheated as well. Gave my brother my old one and I bought the new model and it hasn't overheated since I bought it months ago.
@@dericjames2018 With the fans on the back the exhaust doesn't go over 60°C which seems to be the red zone. I have a thermo probe on the exhaust since day-1 (I use to have it on the PS4) just because. And it ended helping me understand the red signals when my PS5 was about to go off hard. If the air where the cables connect is over 60 degrees for over 20 minutes or keeps rising it will go off any moment. With the light cleaning and the fans pulling the hot air out now it doesn't go over 55°C even during hot days and very long play sessions. PS4 games never push it over 45 during 32°C days.
I definitely need your expertise 😊
Great video thanks😊😊😊
Dk oldies needs to watch this video and learn😭
Noticed you missed a few steps getting to the fan, maybe I have a different model. I got to the motherboard and I stopped there. Because I noticed a few more things had to come out before I could get to the fan housing. Still helpful so thank you.
A job well done.
Professional 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks man.
I am glad that there are still people that care about the ps4
The most complicated cleaning process for an air purifier
Buddy what
@@hana-sp1xk I love that the comment shows (edited). That means that somewhere out there in the ether is a version of this comment which makes even 𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 sense.
Neat.
The playstation is basically acting as an air purifier with how much dust there is. The comment made perfect sense, I don't understand the confusion.
Kinda funny that some small time repair shops actually fixes the consoles than the actual authorized shops. Watched a video of someone with PS5 deemed unfixable but the guy managed to fix it.
Looks like their repair crews needs training...
Or they're trained to say it can't be repaired so customers will be forced to buy a new one?
@@akiv33401 meh, probably, Apple does it all the time with their producrs
Asmr version of this please… great job.
Good job 👍🏼
I needed this video so bad
DK Oldies taking notes 👀
Took deep clean to a whole over level 💀
I would of used an air compressor at all steps and washed the plastic parts except for the fan. Overall good job.
Can electronic components be washed in water?
@@Sulto_ no
air compressors doesnt always get rid of clogged dust bruh
@@wack3095 i was asking the genius named Faizan. XD
I do this on a regular basis piss easy to deep clean consoles especially a ps4 just got to be careful with the blue ray wiring and remember where all the screws go
Hope their becomes PS4 and PS5 versions of MX vs ATV unleashed. That game is amazing
Use small brush vacuum, easier and more hygienic
what type of screwdriver we need to do that at home, T8 or T9?
Good video!
Just finished my first week of work at a computer recycling place. I haven't seen dust like that, even on much older devices
Thank you
Hopefully one day the console will be equipped with an air filter feature
that is easy to disassemble and clean.
because PS5 and Xbox currently have the same problem
I'm using your video, I was here a week ago, and had to order the special bits for the screws💞💞
Where is this guy located cause I need mine cleaned asap! So satisfying 😊
South Houston, Tx 🫡
Ok. So the metal plate on top of the fan got bent and i put it back together without it in. Will my ps4 slim explode?
The part I struggle with is the mother board but almost every other thing is easy to take out
I wish you were in my area. I would bring my ps4 to you
Thank you for making this video,
I have never had to maintain or clean a console until the ps5 and the series x. Those need cleaned every few months.😊
I have a question, how do your organize the screws during disassembly and reassembly? Is there any good system or workflow?
From left to right newb
from my experience, i simply separate screws by its characteristic. I may have at least two small containers for 1. big-black-long (hmm everything reminds me of him) and 2. small-short-white/silver. Then map screw position in 3D space. Instead disassemble it quickly, examine and understand how and why part are joint together. 'does long screw a part that have cavity.?' does bigger screws are meant to support structure'. Colored screw also have purpose such as for match the cover or design.
@@Crouchy232323 my left or your left? What about the screws that don't follow that order? Apparently you were born knowing these things because you're disparaging others. Do share your knowledge please.
A friend of mine organizes everything by literally placing the screws on a magnetic plate in the same location (if there are three screws that go in the top left corner he places them in that same way on his plates) that they'd be on whatever component you're working on. I tried it and it works for me.
@@ChristianCabralGDL yes, my left
Dont over compliment things you idoit
Man I would be wearing gloves at all times while cleaning this ps4
You should have been more specific on what cables to remove and how to do so. I had to use another tutorial to access and remove the motherboard.
This unit was filthy!
Can you give any advice I'm having a problem with the bottom plate
I’m about to dissect my 9yo og ps4 i got in 2014. I dunno if it’ll look like this but I wouldn’t be surprised. I feel like I’m about to go on a dusty adventure. Wish me luck!
Me, watching this while cleaning my keyboard (turning it upside down and smacking it on my desk a few times before shaking it violently for a minute): fascinating.
little tips for you so next time you do a console you can put the parts who don't have electronic, in water to clean them but be very careful before putting together make sure that he do not have water left.
I watch people clean so I feel accomplished
Unfortunately I cannot disconnect the PSU from the motherboard, the plug sits too damn tight. I’ve really pulled hard, if I pull harder I‘m afraid that either the cables rip or the entire plug comes off from the motherboard
Is it ok to use a blow dryer to clean ( on cold mode ofc cause hot mode may damage the console)
Really need this , my ps4 sounds like its ready for takeoff
Really hope you replaced all those torn thermal pads, otherwise it’s gonna overheat just as bad if not worse. Thanks for the video!
Weed residue is what attracted that dust
When he said, "And now we can get to the more detailed part of the cleaning," I was like 😮
I clean all of my game consoles my self and they all work excellent I hate dust
Super cool 👀👀
Nice little business you've got there!
If you let your console get that dirty I can only imagine what your house/place looks like
Dobra robota super
I sneezed just looking at this. But thank you for video.
How are you not creating static with the brushes and tweezers?
Agree
maybe with grounding systems (e.g. wrist or heel straps that are continuously connected to common point ground)
I noticed twice that when cleaning the blades of the heat sink you went against the grain. Is it not better to go with so you can go deeper ( in between the blades) and won't accidentally bend or dent the blades.
Those blades are thick. You'd need to apply serious force to warp them
You made it look easy taking the top of the ps4 off
Did you replaced the thermopads too ???
This is so relaxing! If you don’t have a CZcams channel you should DEFINITELY make one! I’d be subscribed immediately 😊
This i believe would be asmr.
Buy a brush and vacuumcleaner to clean dust from details. That will be faster and much better cleaning
I'd hate to think what mine looks like because I've had it since the day the ps4 came out and never cleaned it 😂
Still work fine without lags in games ?
@kamal akioud Some consoles can actually be pretty clean even owner have not never opened them. I have not never open mine but i have used vacuum cleaner and canned air together to try to suck any dust out of there.
Like wise, I've had mine since about a month-ish after Bloodborne (early 2014) came out, I've not cleaned the inside of it and honestly I'm scared to take it apart.
Same here, I just clean out the vents on the outside from time to time. Dont want to know what the inside looks like. @@3DTyrant
it runs so much quieter now =D
What kind of screw driver did you use to remove the back screws
Very informative. I wonder why you didn't just do it all outside?
It broke, can I use a sawter tool to try and fix, my connection to the battery broke off, wondering if I could sawter it back on🤔
Did they buy this from DKoldies?
You should use a dry ice sprayer to clean it
Wow! 😮If it was so dirty, how dirty is the room where it is used?!
ok so i've done this thoroughly about 3 times in one year and my fan still takes off when i play games like fortnite. Ive tried different thermal paste like MX4 to MX6. ive changed out the thermal pads and hasn't gotten any better. Any thoughts? I also did upgrade to an SSD harddrive but those come incased and are supposed to run better and cooler
