I'm kissing the Feiyutech WG2X GOODBYE!?

  • In my latest video I discuss the reasons why I'm ditching the WG2X for the Karma Grip. From it's occasional wandering eye to the dreaded "Crotch Shot" I'm hoping the Karma Grip reduces the amount of lost shots I have on a ride.

    How did you go about using the Karma Grip as a replacement?
    The Karma Grip seems to be handheld and we need something more compact with a flat interface to be mounted on something...
    Cool vid 👍

      So there's actually an adapter that mounts at the center of the grip. It allows the gimbal to be mounted to a chest harness. BKXC and a lot of other CZcamsrs were using it for just that. If you can't find it let me know. It won't work with the newer GoPro's however. I know the Hero 7 worked. But definitely not the Hero 9.

    Hi. very informative video. I have same setup wg2x with stuntman chest mount. i have problem when i pedaling heavily camera start shaking from side to side. can you help me which settings i need to change in gimbal motors to eliminate this "side to side shaking"

      @CaliradoKid  Před 3 lety

      Oh man. I never really had to play around with the motors. I was pretty methodical about balancing the gimbal and didn't really notice too many problems after that.

    The WG2X is an awesome gimbal if you don't mount it backwards, as you are doing in this video. On the base of the unit, the rounded end is the front. Mount it properly and you won't get the crotch shots. Unlike the Karma Grip, with the WG2X you don't have something the size of a fish bat strapped to your chest, which is uncomfortable when on a bike. And to reduce gimbal noise, leave a space of about the thickness of a dime between the gimbal motor and the camera; makes a big difference.

      Yea I definitely made a few mistakes with the thing early on. I kinda wish I would have done a follow up to this video but I never got around to it. The Karma Grip did NOT work out. It ruined the audio of the camera. So I went back to the WG2X and that thing was a workhorse for me for months and months. Up until only recently when I made the switch to the GoPro Hero 9.

    So you find that the stabilization of the 7 is not enough? I kinda like how mine has a bit "shake" to it and not having extra robot bits on my chest lol

      @CaliradoKid  Před 4 lety +1

      Nerds on Dirt MTB Yea. To me there was still just too much vibration in the shot. I feel like I found the perfect balance with the gimbal. In a perfect world I can turn stabilization OFF on the GoPro and just rely on the gimbal. That’s what I’m hoping the Karma Grip will help me do.

      @@CaliradoKid Have you tried an 8 yet? hyper smooth 2.0 is supposed to be really good. Kinda waiting till I see less people complaining about bugs before pulling the trigger on one.

      I haven't! I'm curious to check it out! I've been watching reviews and comparison's on it. They also had a deal where if you trade in an old gopro you get $100 off. I still have an old Hero 3 laying around I could do that with. But we'll see. The $1 million I've made off this channel so far has all gone to R&D. 😂

    Now I know! I never knew there was a term for that... "crotch cam". My last several (3) rides were ruined because it just decided to flip 180 and point at my crotch or chest. I was hoping you had a solution..... :(

    • @CaliradoKid
      @CaliradoKid  Před 3 lety

      HAHA! The dreaded Crotch Cam. Yea surprisingly it kind of stopped doing it after a while. But I've since switched over to the Hero 9 and it's working pretty damned good without a gimbal which is nice because it's one less battery to charge!

    • @MTBr-of-SoCal
      @MTBr-of-SoCal Před 3 lety

      @@CaliradoKid But then what do you keep the cam vertically leveled? That is, keeping it focused in one spot.

    • @CaliradoKid
      @CaliradoKid  Před 3 lety

      @@MTBr-of-SoCal So the Hero 9 has a feature called "horizon lock." With the Max Lens Mod attached you can basically rotate the camera 360 degrees and the camera will NOT tilt. It's pretty damned cool. You can check out some videos on the ol' CZcams I'm sure. A lot of mountain bike CZcamsrs have migrated that way. Including BKXC.

    I don't seem to see anyone else having this 'mind of its own' problem..

    • @CaliradoKid
      @CaliradoKid  Před 4 lety

      I think the problem comes from riding into berms or hitting jumps. The gimbal seems to lose track of where it’s at and angle in weird directions until it retains its orientation. Hard to explain I suppose but I’ve learned to deal with it.
