  • King Frederik X has taken the throne, following the formal abdication of his mother, Queen Margrethe II.
    Margrethe II has just signed the instrument of abdication, passing the crown to her son.
    There will be no formal crowning ceremony for Crown Prince Frederik.
    He will become King of Denmark and head of state in the country as well as in Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
    On the first day of their reign, Mary and Frederik and the entire royal family will participate in the Danish Parliament’s formal celebration of the succession of the throne.
    The new King and Queen will also be marked spiritually in a celebratory church service at Aarhus Cathedral on Sunday.

    I have had a fondness for Denmark and the Danish people from the time I began learning about Danish counted cross-stitch in the 1970s. I carried that interest forward in the 1980s when I wrote about the Danelaw in English legal history for one of my law school classes.
    I believe there's a possbility that the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 caused her cousin Queen Margrethe II to decide that she'd take a different path and not reign unto death. I hope that she has many more years in which to advise her son King Frederik X and her grandson Crown Prince Christian. Blessings to the Danish Royal Family and the Danish people on this new day.

    I love the Denmark RF. A modest clan. Mary is my fave EUR royal. Unlike Me-gain Ragland, Mary never plotted to marry a prince or to defraud the world and the line of succession by fake moonbump pregnancies. She never chased $$$ or fame. She is not a serial liar or embezzler. She is a genuinely decent human being who demonstrates respect for families, elders, and the Queen. Her speeches are poetic and lyrical. Her unrivaled curtsies are legendary. Mary is not only a crown jewel in and of herself - she is Denmark’s secret weapon. Charles needs to follow the wise example of Margarethe and remove titles or abdicate so that William can remove titles of the Toxic Treasonous Twosome.

    Why did she leave the room before her son signed the papers?

    • @syvogtres
      @syvogtres Před 6 měsíci +8

      Hi @mb5612
      Actually, she didn't. Her signing the papers was it! He automatically became king, once she signed her abdication statement. He basically had no say in this. If he really did not want to be the king, he would have to actively sign his own abdication statement.
      Once the Queen had left the room, the King presided his first government consultation as a monarch. She, not being a monarch anylonger, was formally required to leave the room.

      Queen Consort, because she's married to a King.

    • @AlexxJ.
      @AlexxJ. Před 5 měsíci

      She is Queen-consort, but queens-consorts (wives) are called "queens", while husbands are always only called "princes". She is not reigning but is there together with her husband. If he dies before her, this son, Christian, will be King, and she will be Queen-mother.
      HRM Margrette 2 is still the Queen.

      @kimberlytyrcha5930 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Queen Margrethe didn't abdicate to "save her son's marriage." That's just stupid. How would her abdicating save his marriage? Oh, Mary demanded to become queen or she'd divorce Frederik? Mary is in no position to demand anything. Mary gets her royal status from Frederik. Without him, she'd still be plain old Mary Donaldson. Constitutionally, she's irrelevant. Frederik would ascend the throne with or without her.
