Don't understand, is this the same as ASUS ROG Strix G531? As no where am I seeing scar 3 on sites selling ROG Strix G531... Is the Scar 3 different to ROG?
Probably.
My G531GU (Strix Hero III) came with a 1660ti instead, and a 4-zone RGB keyboard. My friend's G531GW (Scar III) matches the specs in this video, and he has per key RGB. Both screens seem identical as well as the overall build

Thank you for the in depth review. I managed to get 17.3 inch model of Scar III similar specs shown in this video on a very good price. I am loving this laptop it is beautiful, thin and light for my taste. It is just perfect.

This is a very thorough review! Thank you and bravo! I was wondering, did you try to repaste the CPU? I have just bought and waiting for the 17'' version. I'm going to use some Kryonat and pads to repaste everything. How difficult was to achieve the -0.13 undervolting? Could the 17'' model perform better due to somewhat better heat dispersion?
Cheers! Unfortunately I am not able to repaste review units, otherwise the next reviewer will not be aware of the change and report incorrect data due to what I've done without knowing. The undervolt was very easy, generally I go for -0.15v and that is almost always fine, just wasn't in my unit, specific values vary by CPU though so you just have to experiment. I have heard the 17" has an extra heatpipe, so may run cooler, you can compare the insides of yours vs the insides of mine in the video to confirm.

@@JarrodsTech Hi! The 17.3'' laptop doesn't have an extra heat pipe, I checked it but I haven't done much else. I got it yesterday and I am sending it to the service. It is a retail version without OS. I installed the win10 pro 3 times and countless drivers following chatty reps troubleshooting steps but still the touchpad works erratically or it doesn't work at all. I am disappointed.

Thanks for the great review Jarrod! Some of my experience after using the G531GW Scar III for a week.
1. The keystone is a white elephant, and often not recognized if docked during reboots. (I suspect it has something to do with the Armoury Crate.)
2. The Armoury Crate is a poor control panel beta, buggy and incomplete functions to support newer ROG notebooks.
3. Also, it is unlikely not to hit the Numlock function on the touchpad by accident during normal usage.

based on your videos, scar 3 is more loud than 2?
You can check yourself by referring to the results in this video and my recent Scar II review if you want to hear it, but yeah the Scar II was a tiny bit quieter in balanced mode, then a tiny bit louder in turbo mode at max speed, but within 1 decibel of each other so not too big of a difference.
I want all gaming laptop that will be release this year should be review by you. 😄

Don‘t be to hard about the Scar 3 . My Scar 3 runs with an undervolt of 0,190 v and the Temps of the cpupacking is at 79 average.
No thermalthrottling or powerthrottling with the undervolt. Maybe you got a bad unit or im Lucky in the Siliconlottery. All good things for you and your Channel. Best and detailed specs you can find on CZcams.

Is there an option to buy a cheaper version with a 144Hz screen?
Also if I were after primarily an RTX 2070, 9750H/8750H, 144Hz, 15'6 in laptop.

Yes 144Hz is an option if I recall. Sounds pretty decent in terms of AUD.

I honestly don't mind the 144 Hz of the Scar ii but is the display of the scar iii better in terms of colour reproduction and viewing angles ?

@@trs5730 Thanks but could you be more specific ? From a performance standpoint the two are technically identical. So my main concerns are cooling, keyboard and trackpad quality and display between the two.
I am not sure as I haven ot actually tested them both with the same specs. Build quality was pretty similar.

Yes, once I am able to get hold of a 3550H laptop, just don't have any at the moment.
Ryzen 5 3500H is far weaker than i5 8300H as far as I’m aware.

sir, I am going to buy this but some friends are suggesting to go for hp as they told asus laptops donot serve for 7/8 years. Is it true?
I've never had a chance to test HP laptops so I cannot fairly compare them. Any laptop should last a long time as long as you treat it well.
hp omen might not provide that much spec for this price point..its i9 9th gen..4 5 years would be ample,as new spec would be available at that time.Happy Future gaming bro.

Is ‘IPS level panel’ just marketing bs for a decent TN panel?
Basically I think IPS is trademarked by LG, so when AUO makes something similar they can't call it IPS. In all cases they've looked about the same to my untrained eye.

No! I would never ever buy a tn panel. It look horrible. I always to for ips panel. Alittle more expensive yes but it is worth it for me. The contrast/colours are so much better, and i dont like washed out picture. Move ur head slightly to the side/up or sown with a tn panel and u will se the colours be washed out. Is just comes down to how picky u are. I gladly pay 500$ extra to get a good ips panel.

The y540 looks sleek af. I don't like lenovo due to my history with their laptops but the legion y540 does look sleek and performs really well.

Hey Jarrod, I highly recommend checking out the coolermaster u3 plus cooling pad. It has had a hugely positive effect on my asus scar gl703vm with full 1060 and 7700hq mainly due to manual placement of 3 80mm fans. Great product at a great price!
I'll keep it in mind, I want to do a video comparing a bunch of different cooling pads soon.

Hey, great video, i think you should include "gaming - silent mode" as well, I used zephyrus M older one in this mode and I found it rather great, I lost like 10-40fps but machine was nearly silent and you can use internal speakers easily, I think some people would appreciate that . Cheers
same, on my gx701 I only used balanced mode, with gsync on and Witcher 3 still runs at over 90fps. The difference between balanced and turbo was only about 1-2% and not worth the almost doubling in noise from the fans.

Ure so correct, with every point u make, I love it, could u say what programs do u use to undervolt, and can u recommend some tutorials ? I have him for 8 months, and i have alot problems with heat, i have cooler but it seems the little openings on the bottom are just to small and to small in numbers to cooler pad to make any significant impacnt. Because I am new to this i just went in power settings and on balance battery mode i put processor to max 99% this kills off turbo boost and i get better temps(proc goes only to 2500mhz), but sumotimes it impacts fps and fps stability, i didnt make real tests how much diference i get but I saw it its sometimes quite lower. Also I would like to add self cleaning ventilators still need to be cleaned, alot! My guess every month or 2 month open it and clean
I think asus right is the worst offender when it comes to expensive laptops that look gaudy as hell. They really need to drop this 'edgy' and RGB cancer
You're right, enough of RGB, just add more feature like Thunderbolt 3, wth buying 2k$+ laptop with no Thunderbolt, they must focus on usefull things, not a f*cking RGB
In reality these Asus laptops are pretty understated. You can turn the lighting off and it doesn't look far off a business laptop. Bit bigger maybe but the mostly metal / carbon look construction has good design aesthetic.
Im not buying a gaming laptop with no webcam!!!... Said no gamer ever

Hey ! Thank you for your videos ! At 5:10, we see the disk bracket. Is it possible to use 15mm HDD ? What is the max height ?
Honestly I was not aware there were different thickness of drives for 2.5" bays, thought they were all pretty much the same, so can't confirm sorry. The laptop was sent back to ASUS a few weeks ago so I can't measure or check it.
