It would have been nice to have function keys on the keyboard. This pretty much rules it out for me as a dev machine. Otherwise, the machine looks good. Thanks for the review.
I don’t think you guys realize what function keys are. The “FN” key is not a function key, it’s a modifier key. Function keys are F1, F2, F3, etc., usually up to F12. Having these available without a modifier key speeds up programming workflows. Lots of editors and debug tools use function keys for, well, functionality.
Josh Martin It’s still a compromise. If you want to see a counter-example, look at the keyboard layout for a Thinkpad X1 Extreme. You’ll see that it has a dedicated row of keys for F1-F12 in addition to the media keys. This speeds up the time it takes to use development tools. Think of it like using a multitool versus separate screwdrivers; having dedicated tools is always faster, but it takes up more space.
I agree. Who even likes those """gamer"""" aesthetics? I wish Razer would let us Europeans get our hands on their Mercury White computers, so that we can get rid of that glowing logo.
Just want to add some of my input to this model/s. I have an Asus Strix G531GD Specs Intel i5 9300H 120hz Screen GTX 1050 1T NVMe PCI + SSD 1T (upgraded it) 32G RAM (upgraded it) Pros 1. Good Price and VERY POWERFUL 2. It is freakishly fast with i5 9300H + Turbo mode ON 3. It is GOOD for gaming (CSGO,COD,OVERWATCH, etc) for it's model 4. Photo editing (Photoshop) 5 Rendering (Sketchup, Blender, etc) 6. Multitasking with 2 more screens ( I have total of 3 screens 1 via HDMI + USB) 7. RGB lights look so awesome (neck turning feature by the way) Cons 1. The laptop sometimes go as much as 90-93 DEG when GAMING. Other application 50-70 DEG. 2. 45 watts Battery Overall This is an entry level laptop that packs a powerful punch. Less expensive and reliable (had it 9 months and counting). Simply upgrade your RAM and SSD( I wouldn't recommend internal HDD, just buy external instead for this for storage) and you are good to go. Though the heat may vary depending on your location when using it for GAMING but for other application it truly OK and you can just use a laptop cooler for better cooling. The 45Watts isn't that bad at all(silent mode in Armory Crate + low settings) up to 4-5 hrs when using it for watching movies or typing and NOT gaming. So simply plug it to a power supply(DUH!). I don't like webcams so good it doesn't have one. Hope this helps :)

It would have been nice to have function keys on the keyboard. This pretty much rules it out for me as a dev machine. Otherwise, the machine looks good. Thanks for the review.
It has the FN key. What do you exactly?
There's actually 2 FN key if one isn't enough for you 🤣
I don’t think you guys realize what function keys are.

Big fan man. Should do a best gaming laptop under 3000 dollar now. Its the best time as they are new deals
Just want to add some of my input to this model/s.
I have an Asus Strix G531GD
Specs
Intel i5 9300H
120hz Screen
GTX 1050
1T NVMe PCI + SSD 1T (upgraded it)
32G RAM (upgraded it)
Pros
1. Good Price and VERY POWERFUL
2. It is freakishly fast with i5 9300H + Turbo mode ON
3. It is GOOD for gaming (CSGO,COD,OVERWATCH, etc) for it's model
4. Photo editing (Photoshop)
5 Rendering (Sketchup, Blender, etc)
6. Multitasking with 2 more screens ( I have total of 3 screens 1 via HDMI + USB)
7. RGB lights look so awesome (neck turning feature by the way)
Cons
1. The laptop sometimes go as much as 90-93 DEG when GAMING. Other application 50-70 DEG.
2. 45 watts Battery
Overall
This is an entry level laptop that packs a powerful punch.
I'm planning to get this model with i7, 1tb ssd, 16gb ram and rtx 2070. Can i add more sdd or hdd storage into it? And for ram memory slot. Is it only single or dual channel?
I just paid 3500 USD for a Razer 240hz blade 15; with a 2080 max-q and 16gb of ram. It's expensive because I bought it while traveling in UK. ASUS is making incredibly priced product!
Chaos Black try finding good prices LIVING in the UK
I feel the price is over amazing for what you get.
Razer could charge over a $1000 more for the same sppecs
Apple would charge $10000 more
Ibrahim Adeosun nah, apple would charge a new born baby for this.
It's pretty damn close to what you'd have to pay for a desktop similarly kitted out actually. I remember something like $2000 for my mini itx 1080 8600k build a while back. (all told with monitor and keyboard etc). This is a killer deal.

It seems too good to be true because it is. If you click the links in the description, you won't even find this model listed; the ones available are i7's with up to 16GB of RAM, and that's even the ones that are more than $2,400 (and that's in USD on top of all that). This obsession of Linus with webcams on Laptops needs to cease!!!! Nobody buys a laptop for their webcam. If anyone really really needs one for their laptop they just buy a high quality full hd with 60fps and all that from logitech anyways.
Why should they have to? Just cause you don't use one doesn't mean everyone else is like you. These laptops aren't cheap and Laptop manufacturers should at least make an attempt to provide a decent camera.

It's a bummer that ASUS doesn't put G-SYNC on this laptop.
Now,
GX531 has small battery, up to RTX2080 but no GSYNC, 9750H, shifted-down keyboard
GX502 has 76wh battery, has GSYNC/Optimus switch a normal keyboard,i7-9750H,but only up to RTX2070.
GL531/GL731/G531/G731 has 66wh battery, no Gsync normal keyboard layout, up to RTX2070, but an I9-9880H
So if you want G-SYNC/optimus as well as 76wh battery, RTX2080, the only option is GX701GX, however, GX701GX doesn't have an i9 option. Up tp i7-9750H, which only has 100Mhz higher 6-core turbo than last year's i7-8750H.
I also want to warn everyone who has seen this comments that ASUS is bad at QC, the unit on Linus' review table is probably "specially picked" if you know what I mean. I have one GM501GS and GX701GX(returned), the bezels on the right bottom are not adhere(bezel popping out) to the screen properly out-of-the-box on BOTH my gm501gs and GX701GX, a real bummer for a laptop this expensive.
