  • Yes we know that it's the Lancia Delta but it's been brought into Ireland as the Chrysler Delta so we let Bob loose with it over Christmas. See what he thought of it here.

Fantastic review, I am Italian and I got goosebumps listening to your very positive words about Italian car making industry. You are what any reviewer should be sincere and also emotional, because as you say a car is not only an object, it has abit of a soul which accompanies you everywhere, some more some less but they all remind you of something everytime you drive them.

Quick update, after almost 4 years with my baby Delta ( btw I have the 1.8 turbo petrol) I freakin love it, every sec of it, looking at it, driving it....pure joy, there aren't too many if at all Delta's here so I get looks all the time... some people sometimes don't even know what it is 😄
I tuned it a bit, chip tune, lower stiff suspension (eibach) wheel spacers (not too wide) with Michelin cup tyres, oh God the car drives like a train on rails
    Few more things to come...
    I love this car...
    My dream is to:
    1. Convert it to manual
    2. Make it a 2 doors rather than 4 (well 5)...somehow extend the front doors, seal the rear doors and make a coupe hatchback out of it...make it 1 of a kind....who knows
    Cheers everyone

hi Bob, just wanted to let you know that I bought a lancia delta 1.8t because of this review that you've made.
I was always an Italian petrol head, had an Alfa sprint, the a 33 then a Lancia kappa....but since I've "matured" and then kids.... well...you know the ladies....I had to put my passion for Lancia aside....but then I was looking for a car...and came across this video...and you've reminded me of the sparkles dust....I had to get one...and I did.... and have been loving every moment behind the wheel of this car since...I laugh if I see an A3, Golf....ect....they don't even come remotely close to the joy of driving the Lancia
    thanks
    from Israel

Thanks for this great review Bob. I have a Fiat Bravo on which the Delta is based and am thinking of replacing it. I too can't decide between the Giulietta and Delta. Good to see somebody who undertands Italian cars, They just feel right.

I love the Delta, its a shame it got the wrong badge but its good to see it in Ireland. I've owned 11 Italian cars, 1 Lancia, 5 Fiat & 5 Alfa, and not one of them has ever caused me any bother, my Punto did 40k miles/year with no trouble, pity that some people seem to have out-dated views of Italian cars!

9 years later.. but a great review. It is still a handsome looking car. maybe the inside is now dated (no modern built in sat natv etc..) but wow what a looker. It was typically Fiat Group stupidity to sell it as a bloody Chrysler in Ireland and the UK. Maybe too late now, as the few second hand ones on sale seem to have big mileage, but I still wish I'd bought one and somehow fitted the pre-facelift Lancia grille.

Very happy with my 2012 SR Nav even today it being 9 years old people still have comments on it! Still a massive head turner when I’m driving it? Some people often call it a Chevrolet by accident though 🙄🙄🙄

Even though I'm late to the party by about 2 years, thanks for this review Bob - I've found one of these locally, and based on your review, I'm test driving it tomorrow - this could be a real find - it's a straight shootout between the Delta and the Peugeot 3008 at the moment.

We bought a Lancia Delta 1,4 TB 150hp yesterday! I did have Lancia Dedra in 90's and I've never missed any car afterwards like that one. I cannot say why because it was basically a normal sedan (based on Fiat Tempra) - it just had that something... Since then I've owned many much more expensive cars, Japanese, French, but I know now that it must be an Italian! Regarding to your delta -test, you really do understand what I mean! Thanks for enjoyable tests, you've got a new fan in Finland! :)

I'm glad you're enjoying the reviews in Israel, it's a country I've always wanted to visit but never had the chance. Maybe there'll be a car launch there that I can go too.
I have a test of the Ypsilon coming up as soon as I can find space to make a video of it it will. Fiat have changed in every way, the old tags are long gone. I'm not sure where the cars you get in Israel are assembled though, check that. The engines won't give any trouble these days, no fear. I've driven it and it seems good

Love this car... we bought an AlfaGiulietta last year, and we love its performance and soul, and yes, we have given it a name! But if this car was around when we bought the Alfa, and came with the 1.4multi air 170bhp, or the 1.7 cloverleaf engine, I reckon we may have gone for this, because its gorgeous, and is HUGE for its class. Great reviews by the way, love them all, mainly because I share EXACTLY the same views about all the cars you review! Great job :)

I am from Portugal and we have had this car available for 3 years and still looks as revolutionary as when it came out. Problem is, FIAT/Lancia cars have a bad reputation here and people prefer the Giulieta or the German and Korean rivals.

I just wish there was a brief moment where you would show the inside of the car aside from the drivers seat. I've been searching for video reviews of the lancia delta where I can get a glimpse of the interior (passanger seat, back seats and boot) and so far haven't found one. I was very happy with the brief view of the rear seats at 1.14 though. Just show me the boot please :)

In my opinion people seem to decided what car they want to buy, by looking at what others drive and then they lust for that car. I can't see how these Delta's will initially find buyers in the first place with that price tag. Most won't be able to afford one until it's over 3 years old, and being an Italian car, is that such a good proposition second hand, especially as there aren't many Chrysler dealers in the UK or Ireland? This may be a flop (A Renault Avantime moment as I like to call it).

Ne'rtheless their managment has no idea whatsoever what "brand value" is... I'd rather have Lancia dead all the way than having to sell out the ageing Delta (which in itself denies ANY of the sporting heritage of its predecessors) as a budget Chrysler or - even worse - being offered a cheapo Chrysler saloon as the new Thema (which used to be a very sleek, dynamic and modern type of car in the 80s).
