I was hesitant to watch this because of the negative title, but I was pleasantly surprised by the lighthearted banter. And your opinions often didn't align, so there was a good cop/bad cop vibe goin'. Fun to watch!

@@PunchboardParty I was excited to watch because of the negative title. Many many people out there enjoy the opportunity to see something genuine and raw. Not everything needs to be water down with pleasantries. Get frustrated get mad, be real, tell the world what games you hate and why! It’s so refreshing. Everyone knows you guys aren’t haters but your still allowed to hate something someone else may love haha!

I think the key thing about Candyland is that it's actually very good for what it is, but what it is is not so much a game as a way to teach kids HOW to play games.
There's no strategy, so it's fine for kids who are very young, but it involves taking turns, following rules, and some people losing. All those things are critical for kids to learn to move on to real games. It was entertaining to listen your stories revolving around all those games.

I think your totally right! And my three year old is always asking for it! BUT just this weekend we finally got to playing Jurassic Snack and Mosquito show with the boys! And they are having a really good time with those AND the same lessons are being learned. The only downside is that I could beat them every time if I wanted to :(

@@PunchboardParty Sticking to the Bruno theme in these games, I'd suggest Dragomino for your 3yr old. She'll want to play the "Baby dragons!" game over Candyland.😁How old are the boys? My dauhgter is 7 and is loving playing Carcassone and Machi Koro with my wife and I.

I don't tend to select videos of worst games, but I knew your banter and the unique games you'd discuss would be entertaining. I was not disappointed. I laughed out loud several times. Also, Sarah bringing the real truth 🤣 I haven't played many of these games, but I've wanted to play Tales of the Arabian Nights. I enjoy Hive, but don't love it. I started Legacy of Dragonholt, but played a couple storylines and it fizzled for me (although I keep thinking about going back to it to finish the overarching story). Great video!

I played seven wonders duel twice and I just gave up on it…. I can’t bring myself to play it again, yet hear so many people saying how great it is. Each to his own🙂. I'm going to defend Myrmes though. I'll say it's one of those games that takes a couple of plays to get into the rhythm of the mechanics.... which I found great. I didn't end my first couple of games feeling like I knew everything about it. I'm wondering if you weren't maximizing your turns, since you weren't able to accomplish much? I truly think if you were to give this one another try, you'll see all of it's potential. 😎

I agree with the gentleman who dislikes cooperative games. With some rare exceptions there is simply not enough game in them for me. I would much rather play a simple competitive card game than a Behemoth of a coop where my options are extremely limited and worse still I do not have any independence as a player. Looking at you Eldritch Horror and Robinson Crusoe.

I'm not a big fan of euro games usually but I definitely enjoy Keyflower because of the player interaction. But it's hardly mean. Carcassonne is meaner than that. You managed to win the game anyway because there are many sources of VPs. How many VPs you really lost because of that tile? Maybe another winter tile gave you almost the same amount of points anyway.

    • @PunchboardParty
      @PunchboardParty  Před rokem

Dunkin on Candyland!? we have a problem (kidding of course)
Modern Games I do not like:
Betrayal at House on the Hill: Way too swingy, and sometimes the person who becomes the betrayer already has an item you need to win...
Disney Sidekicks: Game is too difficult for being a kids game, and the rules are terrible, and it can end super fast (which I suppose is a good thing, because it sucks)
7th Continent: Brutally hard, and the save system sucks. Feels aimless, and the skill check system is unintuitive. Plus when you die, having to start the whole thing over... no thanks!
Photosynthesis: this is probably fine at 2 players, but do not play with 4 especially with someone who has Analysis Paralysis... game advertises it takes 45 minutes... took a group I played with 2.5 HOURS!
Bites: Cute but mediocre at best, game felt fast but with no real strategy to it.

Uh, so should I just awkwardly bring up that Keyflower is my second favourite game? And were you guys putting every winter tile you had in to the bidding in the winter round? Because you can choose not to put tiles in. It was hard for me to tell from the way you described it.
Look, Keyflower is amazing in large part because it is so cutthroat. The game is all about the tension of “is this enough”, because with the hidden supply of meeples, the fact is that you simply don’t know. You can take things away from other players, but your ability to hate bid is limited, because you need to look after your own interests too, and you don’t have enough to do everything. You can protect your interests, but a lot depends on how you manage your interests.
I don’t see the calming art as deceptive. It’s why they have landscapes in dentist offices, they know they need to calm your agitated soul. Take a deep breath, look at the calming art, and then take something away from another player. I would encourage you to give it another shot. The game is phenomenal.

Man...great list! Candyland is not a game. The 'game' is predetermined with where the cards are and the player order and so I hate it too. I mostly agreed with your list and some of them really hit that "Yeah". Particularly Hive and KeyFlower. I love abstract strategy games. I think they are a great quick shot of great decisions, short gameplay and easy rules. I have owned Hive like 3 times and I currently have it. I have no desire to play it. The dude that powertripped on you Daniel: that sucks. I hate people that do that. I feel like saying: Go arm wrestle a three year old if you need to 'win' so badly, there guy! And Father Greg: Keyflower looked to me to be the perfect game when I set it up and read the rules: auctions with cool ways to do it...making a town that gave powers you could use and the whole thing. The art style is very charming as well. After playing it, I wanted to punch a wall! To me, it's like finding out Richard Scarry, the charming child book author and illustrator was a nazi or something (he's not, just using as a juxtaposition to describe my feelings toward this game...haha). Great list you guys!
