    This fight was a testament to the true greatness of one Floyd Mayweather Jr. He moved up a weight class and fought the #1 guy in the division and thoroughly outboxed him for the MAJORITY of the fight, with a TORN ROTATOR CUFF. The same type of injury that made Vitali Klitchsko QUIT when he fought Chris Byrd.
    Truly inspirational performance by the greatest boxer of our generation.

    @joshvn715 Beautifully put! Couldn't have said it better. It's truly the evolution of Floyd Mayweather. His technical brilliance is under-looked by most. Great analysis!

    7-4 going into the 12th round for Floyd Mayweather. Castillo was already winning round 10. The point deduction just solidified it. Round 11 was the best round but Mayweather threw and landed more combinations.

  • @joshvn715
    @joshvn715 Před 12 lety +1

    @Mikelovision Yes. Instead of dancing along the outside and using feints to cover the distance. Floyd became grounded in and rolling his artful defense into the heart of Castillo loosened stance which was just loosened and opened enough to have Floyd become May. And he seized it, Castillo was helpless in 10 and May learned that they were too desperate to beat him- so bring it right to them :)
    Round 10 was where hope became perfection, one of May most intuitive and technical rounds.

    I am a fan...of boxing. What I find even more humorous is the fact that even if you think Castillo won this fight, Floyd took the 2nd fight imediately afterwards. No in between fights. He clearly won the 2nd fight but no one talks about it. Have you ever asked yourself that? Why is that? It's almost as if the 2nd fight never took place. That's because some people refuse to give the man the credit he deserves. Floyd is not my favorite fighter..never was, but I acknowledge his greatness.

  • @Tusc9969

    Nobody talks about the second Floyd vs Castillo fight because the outcome was the CORRECT one.Nobody disputes Floyd won in that bout. But in their first bout, Castillo won that bout and the wrong guy was awarded the decision and that's why everybody talks about their first controversial bout instead of the second one.

    @Mikelovision Yes. Round 10 was Mayweather's! Round 10 was introduction of Mayweather into the Modern May. Round 10 was the Memory Gospel like it was in the movie Ali versus Liston.
    Instead of using that Mayweather stance along the out with fist and arm across the diaphragm into the raised clenched elbow- tightly weaving combos and stunning blows
    - he went into Castillo shoulders. Despite Jose' tight form he keeps his arms loose to feed a steady diet stiff shots and counters.

    @bustlee What rounds did he take, because he lost 1-5 and got a point deducted in 8 so that's 6 rounds out of a 12 round fight so even if he takes every other round the best he could hope for is a draw...

  • @blacktee31
    @blacktee31 Před 12 lety

    What people need to understand is that all those low blows that Castillo was throwing may not be illegal because they're belt line and not below the belt, but if Castillo is throwing all of those waistline shots, it's harder for the judges to see if they aren't facing that side, so if he had jabbed more like Floyd did he may have had a better shot. That's why Floyd won because he was landing more jabs and not swinging so wildly.

  • @Armando316

    Ive been telling you how Castillo beat Mayweather. Mayweather retreated for most of the fight and rarely let his hands go after the fourth. Castillo was working the body pretty good and landing hard left hooks from time to time on Mayweathers face. Castillo was the effective aggressor in the fight, not Mayweather. Mayweather may of blocked a lot of punches but Castillo was still landing and out working him in the close rounds. Castillo effectiveness in his attack won 8 rounds on my card.

  • @Kedbuka
    @Kedbuka Před 14 lety

    @spinika7: Tell me precisely when it was that Castillo "backed off" because I looked for it and didn't see it. Perhaps you can cite the five-second period that Mayweather did go forward . Otherwise, it was Castillo making the fight and Mayweather, to paraphrase Marvelous Marvin Hagler, running around "like a little girl." Okay, maybe not that bad but he wasn't scoring too effectively while slipping and moving.

    @TSFCEntertainment Yeah, I'm excited for the Cotto fight; before Pac everyone wanted this fight. But I'm kind of thinking Mayweather's banking on the fact that Cotto might be a little mentally different with some losses under his belt but I'm still excited. But I think he moves less not due specifically to his age but he fights heavier now and also I think he's honed his game a lot to less jabs, less outer movement (except with Hatton), and even tighter D with more lead rights and hooks.

    Huge 11th round for Floyd, Staying inside and picking his shots brilliantly, beautiful to watch. Harold Letterman was right about Floyd fighting Castillo's fight but Floyd out fought him in that eleventh round. Floyd won this fight, it was tough and competitive but Floyd won. Jose Luis Castillo did a great job keeping Floyd in one spot for a while but Floyd adjusted. 6 months later in the same calender year Floyd dominated him in the rematch.

    Agreed they are seperate fights. However particular fans bring up the 1st Castillo fight. They typically bring it up as a style that if applied can produce a win. They ignore the fact that Floyd's performance may have been hampered by a shoulder injury. So if they're agrument is Castillo's style presents problems for Floyd, it is best not to mention the rematch. That is the particular angle at which "most" fans who don't like Floyd approach the Castillo fights.

    @spinika7: I agree w/all your points here, although I had Castillo winning it. Very close fight though. Regarding your remark about how Castillo "backed off," even if he did step back for a few seconds as you indicated, that's not exactly a moment of triumph for FMJ, who did some business in there, sure, but it wasn't all that convincing to me. I give him credit though, he stepped up in weight and fought a tough, hard-hitting quality fighter. Made for an interesting fight...and a good one.

  • @Tusc9969
    @Tusc9969 Před 12 lety

    IMO, In regards to the type of style you need to beat Floyd..I agree that Aggressiveness alone like in the Castillo bout won't do the job. You need more than just aggressiveness. You also need speed aswell as mental focus. A combination of those things with a good jab is essential. Two things you don't do is try to out box floyd or stand in front of him letting him get into his rhythm...so aggression,speed,timing and mental focus to last the 12 rounds.

  • @shiest13
    @shiest13 Před 13 lety +1

    Floyd was tearing his ass up on the inside in round 11. With a torn rotator cuff I clearly had Floyd winning this fight. He won the first 5 rounds and Castillo possibly won 5 rounds for the entire fight. Aggression don't mean shit if you aren't landing anything effective and Castillo wasn't landing effective blows.

    non-boxers should quit the terrible commentary. i'm a boxer and floyd definitely won this. he slipped and rolled so many punches he was absolutely dominating castillo in technique. floyd is a defensive boxer so what looks to you like him running away is him keeping the ideal distance to slip, roll, counter and weave the wild powerful swings castillo throws. not to mention castillo got totally outboxed! like seriously what fight are people watching???

  • @MichaelMurrayMUFC

  • @dlogan1616
    @dlogan1616 Před 11 lety

    I feel, Floyd pretty much boxed the same way in both fights. I felt Floyd was actually landing harder punches on Castillo in the 1st fight. You can almost compare that between the two fights, a lot of the same rounds were won and lost. Majority of the press row had FMJ winnining, including the Associated Press, which had Mayweather winning, 115-111, and the New York Daily News scorecard also had Mayweather winning, 116-112. At the time ESPN’s Max Kellerman disputed Lederman's scoring.

    @Lotus-Son Před 12 lety

    @TSFCEntertainment But, yes he is older and u still have a point with his age and his mobility, but I love his style now even more than his earlier fights. He seems even more accurate and better at timing than ever. But that could be because he fights really who he chooses more than ever. I just hope he fights Pac before age does catch up more evidently to the point where we can safely say their age is showing.

    the problem with judges as well as fans is that alot of factors come into play when your scoring a fight that doesnt get acknowledged or recognized properly: punch accuracy, punch power, defense, movement, pressure and ring general-ship!/ you dont score a fight based on popularity or whos style looks better/

    I think this fight should have been rule a draw. But, Floyd learned some lessons in this fight: 1. He needed to develop his inside fighting skills more. 2. He cant use his legs at much @ higher weight classes, he'll get walked down. 3. Use the pull-counter more to keep the fight in the center and get the points up (power shots). 4. Never go into a fight less than 100% again

  • @blacktee31
    @blacktee31 Před 12 lety

    Exactly. No one seems to pay attention to the fact that the referee wasnt letting Mayweather do what he does, that holding off and creating space with his elbow isnt illegal as long as he doesnt throw a punch while holding or push Castillo off balance. He let Castillo punch Floyd along the back, which is illegal, and alot of other stuff on top of Floyd struggling with that damaged rotator cuff. I think the judges scored the fight against Castillo due to the referee and Castillo's dirty fighting.

  • @spankybighead

    In regards to who won. I have no problem with saying Castillo won. The point is it was a close fight and I don't have a problem with Floyd getting the win...there have been way worse decisions. That's ONE reason but the main reason is because Floyd won..and won convincingly. The whole "ignoring" the 2nd fight is to do just that...ignore it. It's also ignored because it lends credence to the fact Floyd had a damaged shoulder the 1st fight. No excuses but Floyd fought that fight injured and pulled out a victory. They ignored the injury and he himself wanted a clear victory and took the 2nd fight imediately. No one gives him credit for that...so they ignore the 2nd fight.

    Bias feelings and emotions aside, I don't have a problem stating that Castillo won the first bout because he did..lets be honest. Castillo was the aggressor and Floyd didn't have control of the fight in the second half of the bout. His shoulder injury had a hand in it but Castillo's style was also giving him fits. This is not about Floyd...CounterPunchers always have trouble with aggressive,pressure,volume fighters.The only problem w/Castillo is that he's a slow fighter.

      I don’t like Floyd but I did notice that he got a point tooken do it should have been 9 to 9 like they did when Castillo got a point tooken I still think Castillo won because he’s the champ and it was a very close fight and the champ gets the benefit of the doubt

    @username7212345 dude ur siding with a guy who says liston and patterson werent great and that ali only knocked out one good champ (Foreman) and that ali and robinson were both dinosaurs and floyd is better than both ali and robinson.. ur really gonna side with that guy?

    A point should've been taken at the end of the 9th. Had Castillo stood in the center of the ring for an extra second, the ref would've taken it.

    At 2:59 Floyd lands a powerful left hook and the commentators say nothing. This is why ppl have a favorable perception for Castillo. Merchant Foreman and lamply are talkin commentin more on Castillo activity.
