"Punch & move, doesn't move me." -Larry Merchant He doesn't even understand the most basic concept of boxing... to hit the other guy w/o letting him hit you.
Why do Larry think Floyd should be fighting for him. That's why Floyd SNAPPED on him about not knowing boxing. Merchant never appreciate what he's watching and that's greatness. Anybody who can box when they need to and brawl when they need to and sometimes do both and still win, That's greatness. I really hope Larry don't do the Mayweather/Cotto fight. I hope Max work the fight. I mean Floyd hit him with 5 straight rights at the end and Larry still couldn't appreciate! WOW!
yea Merchant is very vocal about preferring fights with more action, but I don't think he "hates" Floyd either. He never attacks floyds skills, always congratulates him on a win, and will ask him questions like "did you hurt your hand?" I do think Mercant holds a responsibility to his own profession to ask floyd questions like "Do you think your fights are exicting with people booing and leaving before the fight is over?" or "why haven't you stepped in the ring the best?"
im filipino so im pretty much a paquiao fan by default but I am also a floyd fan and I'm probably one of the very few filipinos who would say I wouldn't be suprised if floyd won i just wished floyd fought more big names but i hope hell put on a show at least if hes gonna win.
@cysince86 I too have been watching boxing since around 87 since i was a kid. But maybe I was spoiled (along with alot of fight fans) by watching the greats like Leonard, Hagler, Chavez, Tyson, Holyfield, etc etc.. These guys would go out and give it there all in the ring. And these guys could box when they wanted to. And you should be in agreement that Winky or Hopkins didn't make a career by going backwards. They would actually stand their ground in the center of the ring.
and before anyone says that only "casual" fans want knockouts, keep in mind that "casual" fans only watch the BIG EVENTS like De La Hoya-Mayweather. If any of you watched THIS fight live or again on youtube then you're far from a "casual" fan.
LMAO!!! Um Merchant to answer that dumb as question about, would people want to pay too see Mayweather fight... Becoming the highest paid athlete in the "World" just simply speaks for itself....
@Limekiln71 That's not bullshit, that's a fact. Even Ali's cornerment admited that Ali was done fighting after the 14th round of their third fight, and simply couldn't continue. But luckily for Ali, Frazier's corner stoped the fight before Ali's corner. Watch the documentary called "Thrilla in Manilla", and you'll see that one of Ali's cornerman, and an author of Ali's biography said that Ali was going to quit after the 14th round in the third fight.
@gonchito1 Merchant loves boxing, he just wants entertainment. He's been around long enough to see that fighters can have a combination of great boxing skills, and perfect entertainment value. From Ali, to Ray Leonard, and Thomas Hearns.
Larry Merchant has the right to complain. He prefers more action packed fighters. That's what he grew up on. Personally, I love Mayweather's boxing style, and I think it's entertaining. Mayweather is not just a boxer, he's an artist. And art is usually subjective, and polarizing.
Mayweather landed some sweet, sweet shots in round 10 and the commentators didn't comment on any of them. Yet everytime Castillo throws a punch at mayweathers elbow they jump all over it
"aren't most here to see the Heavyweight fight Larry ?" - "Yep and that answers the question" -- fast forward to 2.44 million buys and a trashed HW division, lol. + "the smaller guys" fast forward 3 more division major titles.
@Limekiln71 I have to say Jake La Motta has the greatest chin in boxing history. In his 106 fights he was never even knocked down. He was stopped by Robinson but he never went down. Of course heavyweights are bigger punchers than middleweights but still..
Only the first sentence was in response to what you said. I just didn't feel like making 2 separate post when I could just put it all in one. Know what I mean.
All fighters owe there career to TV exposure. De La Hoya's whole career has been made off HBO expsosure. Floyd to be fair had more fanfare going into his career than Winky or Forrest due to his family history and Olympic pedigree. I actually remember seeing him at the Olympics in '96 and they were touting him back then as the next big thing.
Merchant; "Mayweather is not standing and delivering, it's all quick shots, move on..." That, Larry, is called boxing. The art of hit and don't get hit. If you want to see two brawlers go at it maybe go watch some MMA or get yourself outside a kebab shop on a sat night
Merchant doesnt like boxing, he likes fighting with big exchanges. So in essence he will never like floyd. Its a shame doe, instead of commentating on the skill floyd displays in the ring he says, "punch and move, doesnt move me but wins fights". In one of floyd recent interviews he was asked the question do you think that when you are older you get in more competitive fights. Floyd replied, "So what you're really saying is get beat up and get some black eyes and then get your hand raised".
@EdwardianWords I couldnt agree with you more but the sad thing is 'rocky balboa' was inducted in the boxing hall of fame lol its just hate floyd is a blessing to the boxing world and he will be a great commentator as well when he retires
its a shame most people didnt like muhammad ali until he went to jail and got knocked down in his first fight with frazier.. if he had the same legs he had before being incarcerated that first fight wouldnt have even been close. floyd patterson had a very similar style. I believe trained by the same trainer and was easily annihilated. .
I agree Lederman is not as bad, but he scored some rounds wrong. Half the time these guys are so busy focusing on what the opponent is doing that they seem to turn a blind side to what Floyd is doing. Floyd blocks a lot of shots they feel were landed punches. As a Boxing fan, I analyze great defense and counter punching. I love knockouts but I appreciate a great boxing lesson. It's amazing to see a fighter out think a guy and consistently dictate when a punch is coming. That's skills!!!
@Limekiln71 But my talk of luck, is definitely not for the birds. Ali was going to quit against Frazier in the third fight, but Frazier's trainer told the ref to stop it, even though Frazier was willing to fight to the very end. I guess Frazier was just the better warrior then Ali. Or maybe Ali was smart in wanting to quit, since he knew that they were both going to die, if the fight had gone the full distance.
@Antrizzle2009 C'mon you and I both know that De la Hoya would have been a star no matter what channel he fought on HBO, Showtime, ESPN and even USA's Tuesday night fights. And I agree that Floyd had a fanbase with high expectations but as a whole Mayweather, for the majority of his career has had trouble putting fans in the seat and exposure on HBO was forced by contracts.
being bias would mean giving Castillo 10 rounds because Floyd failed to make a fight out of it. Larry Merchant actually had Mayweather winning a dull boxing match in which Floyd retreated backwards for twelve rounds slap boxing for the majority of the fight. Can't blame Larry for calling out floyd on not giving the majority of the fans what they want.
@cysince86 That becomes a matter of abilty don't you think Winky is a stationary target with long arms great for defense they cover his body well he isin't mobile at all. B-hop not a great mover either funny how nobody calls Roy jones a runner it's because he is a fan favorite
Not to mention that Larry said the DLH fight was a good fight. He justs points out that the 2 mil plus ppv buyers expected fireworks and didn't get it, He also says dumb shit too, I remember during one DLH fight, during his ring entrance he had Mariachis in the ring waiving mexican flags and larry said "you know Jim looking at all this one thing comes to mind, THIS SUCKS!" I have to believe that if Merchant was that vocal against fighters coming in to Hip-Hop music, he would probably get fired!
@Limekiln71 Frazier didn't quit against Ali, his corner stopped the fight. Pay attention to the facts. Frazier was basically kicking Ali's ass after the 5th round. Then Ali managed to close up his good eye, and was able to win the later rounds. But that fight could of been a draw. And I agree that Ali had a better career then Frazier, but neither fighter were the same after that fight. To this day, many of Ali's supporters feel that he should of retired after that third fight against Frazier.
@Antrizzle2009 hey when you can't sell tickets you can't sell tickets. No one can force a fighter to be exciting. Floyd actually owes his career to HBO exposure. Without them, he would have been just like Winky Wright and Vernon Forrest fighting the majority of his career without any real national exposure.
These guys wanted Floyd to lose so bad it's not even funny nowadays Larry Merchant likes Floyd a little bit more but here he hated him, Larry and that other guy wanted Floyd to lose. Floyd outclassed and boxed this guy superiorly both fight
@Limekiln71 Ali got owned in the first fight, and he was about to quit on his stool in the third fight. But luckily for him, Frazier's corner threw in the towl, before Ali called it quits. So yeah, Frazier knew how to beat Ali's ass. And Ali knew how to beat Frazier's ass as well. They brought the best and the worst out of each other. But the fact is that Frazier, and Norton had Ali's number, and they knew exactly how to beat him.
@Limekiln71 And I'm not trying to change history, I'm telling you the facts. Frazier didn't want to quit against Ali, and you can see that he wanted to continue. Even one of his cornerman quoted Frazier saying, "Don't stop this fucking fight! Don't you stop this fucking fight!" Frazier wanted to keep on fighting, while Ali was going to give up. But Frazier's trainer was smart, and stoped the fight for everybody's sake. The facts are facts, and Frazier ruined Ali's career in that third fight.
@cysince86 Larry Merchant felt Whitaker beat De La Hoya and Chavez (the ultimate brawler). When he did criticize Jones it was for the same reason he criticized mayweather. When you're vastly superior in skills and handspeed against most of your opponents, you owe it to the majority of boxing fans to at least make an attempt to get the KO and not drag it out 12 rounds of snorefest.
@Limekiln71 My arguement is actually backed up by facts. Ali got his ass kicked in the first fight. Every boxing expert, and any boxing fan could see that, when they watch that fight. Yeah, Ali put up a great fight, but Frazier got to him, and tore him up in the later rounds. And the reason he easily beat Frazier in the rematch, is because the ref allowed Ali to hold Frazier behind the head, which put him in a disadvantage. And Frazier never quit in the third fight, but Ali was about to quit.
Man, stop telling that crap about biased thoughts, ok? I don`t deny the fact that FM`s got talent... But concerning this fight I can`t say that it helped him much! Maybe I`m wrong... It`s just MY opinion!
Boy when yo ass in there getting hit it’s different Larry. Castillo could hit like a WW you never know u can’t be like it’s hit and move slap slap. They both are men but ones so much better the other guy has to hold and hit but you think they are scoring cuz he has to hold and hit.
Merchant and most ignorant casual fans only wanna see Gatti vs Ward every fight they watch. We saw what happened to Gatti when he faced a talented boxer with intelligence and ring generalship. He got beat from pillar to post. RIP but those "great fights" where it's all about will and no skill lead to Parkinsons and slurred speech. I loved Gatt v Ward too but you cant make a living and be an all time gr8 fighting like that.
Very close fight... I don`t think FM won that fight because of outboxing Castillo.... he won it because he was the champion in that fight and that`s why he had his scores... Castiillo hadn`t done enough to win...
lol its so funny listening to the opponents corner the fighter is always second guessing himself and knowing floyd is too much and they are just praying he doesnt step on the gas. The trainer is always trying to tell them he is a bum lol
why everybody thinks mayweather is invincible, its undeniable that he lost the first castillo fight and a draw against de la hoya or maybe lose that fight.. perhaps is there are people who hate floyd its because he made him self hatefull with his little child attitude to the media and to others boxers.
Despite, the hate and biases of Larry Merchant, I must say I won't fire him at all. I have to admit, he gives a spice to the commentary and as long as he don't really come with some racist remarks I say it's good for business and he could live without the fear of somebody trying to kill him! LOL
@cysince86 this is a comment that is bias toward mayweather b/c if you actually watched any fight that didn't involve mayweather then you would know that Larry Merchant was a big fan of Roy Jones and Pernell Whitaker
The objective is to hit and not get hit. Lederman is a fucking joke. This fight is nowhere near as close as he thinks it is. Floyd out boxed Castillo damn near every round in this fight. A lot of Castillo's shots were either picked off or dodged. He's giving Castillo rounds off his aggressive style because Castillo keeps pressure on Floyd.
This fight woesnt even close...HOW DID THEY LEDERMAN GIVE THE 9TH ROUND TO CASTILLO? Wtf are these idiots watching? I dont think Lederman or Larry Merchant Know anything about boxing...Floyd already told them that anyways.
@maravaluz Mayweather is a BOXER not a FIGHTER! I hope you know the difference. if his style is not for you then why would you put yourself thru a Mayweather fight? Watch Pac Man or those others FIGHTERS that by the end of their career will be diagosed with Parkinson's Diease. & Castillo is triggering all the holding, so that he is able to land a shot. if he wanted a brawler he shouldn't have fought Mayweather!!!!
@TheOneAnachronist I was thinking the same thing when he said, "the ol punch and move style doesn't move me..blah blah blah" I'm like, stfu dude and enjoy a stellar boxing performance. Not every fight's gonna be Gatti/Ward.
I not a big Floyd fan but omg Merchant you just Hate good elusive fighters. Boxing is not about trading shots that's fighting. But it's about hitting and not getting hit. And I believe that for somebody who really didn't have a basic defense Roy Jones displayed this best in hit PRIME. And Larry hated Roy but he was so good he had to give props.Floyd at this time was fighting a welter w8 not a light weight it would be dumb to stand in front of a bigger stronger man. Great Hating Larry ;)
Ali use to trade punches with people sometimes. Larry Merchant loves fighters, and boxers who can fight. He doesn't like fighters who can play it safe. But personally, Mayweather took a risk in this rematch, and he dominated the fight.
Oh I can't stand the HBO replacement crew of Bob Papas, Kellerman, and Lennox Lewis. They are extremely dry and lack enthusiasm. HAHA Teddy Atlas wouldn't pull any punches with Floyd. Then what's floyd gonna do, claim the Atlas doesn't know anything about boxing. Atlas pulled a gun on Mike Tyson so I doubt Floyd would intimidate him or take the mic from his hand. The fact is Floyd resorts to temper tantrums to avoid answering legit tough questions.
@Limekiln71 Why do you continue to post when you have nothing to say. I presented you with the facts, and you go on to claim that I was making it up, when I wasn't. Yeah, Ali beat Frazier in the third fight. But that fight clearly showed that Frazier had his number. Ali was getting his ass kicked after the first 5 rounds, and wasn't able to get the upper hand until the 11th or 12th round. And he was not going to come out for the 15th round.
@touchtone101 I've watched all of the 'controversial' 1st fight and took no heed to what the judges or compubox numbers said.It wasnt pretty probably cause Mayweather wasnt 100%,but Mayweather did actually win that fight.Even though Floyd has a big mouth and the comentry team dont like him they should always be unbiased, which they werent in both fights.
Yeah, I just don't really see Mayweather losing, until he fights Austin Trout or Sergio Martinez. I think Canelo would be an easy fight, because Canelo doesn't know how to move his head. He has the size advantage, and he's very aggressive, but he doesn't fight for a full 3 minutes. Which only works in Mayweather's favor.
Beautiful footwork by Floyd
"Punch & move, doesn't move me." -Larry Merchant
He doesn't even understand the most basic concept of boxing...
to hit the other guy w/o letting him hit you.
respect man, most pacquiao and mayweather fans are so biased it makes me sick
Kinda hard to believe Floyd at this point in his career was fighting on undercards.
That commentator was hating so hard on mayweAther , his punch 🤛 line hit harder than both fighters.
"Punch and move doesn't move me."
Isn't that the backbone of boxing? Damn Larry.
That's crazy talk.
this guy merchant is a true fan of boxing
Why do Larry think Floyd should be fighting for him. That's why Floyd SNAPPED on him about not knowing boxing. Merchant never appreciate what he's watching and that's greatness. @EdwardianWords I think this is one of Floyd's best fights. Easily top 5. :)
@jatpattat Actually he is an expert, and knows the sport of boxing better then most boxers.
Lol at Larry Merchant, nothing to say almost for the whole 11th round......when Floyd was taking Castillo to school
I wish floyd would throw combinations..
Chicken boy floyd has a combination of chiken and fries.
@Limekiln71 That's not bullshit, that's a fact. Even Ali's cornerment admited that Ali was done fighting after the 14th round of their third fight, and simply couldn't continue. Exactly..he favors holding and hitting on the hips and asks why Castillo doesn't get credit for it. That's why your not a judge Larry..thank God.
Larry Merchant has the right to complain. He prefers more action packed fighters. That's what he grew up on. Personally, I love Mayweather's boxing style, and I think it's entertaining. Mayweather is not just a boxer, he's an artist. And art is usually subjective, and polarizing.

no le pude econtrar el estilo al guey, that says it all floyd dominated

Floyd the best ever by far
the best at running.
@@D33Lux go cry
look at the energy and speed mayweather still has even in the 11th. thats conditioning
@EdwardianWords I couldnt agree with you more but the sad thing is 'rocky balboa' was inducted in the boxing hall of fame lol its just hate floyd is a blessing to the boxing world and he will be a great commentator as well when he retires

why the hell is Merchant mad ?!?! wtf ?
Because mayweather runs more than a marathoner, most people came for a fight, not a dance.

perhaps is there are people who hate floyd its because he made him self hatefull with his little child attitude to the media and to others boxers.
lol george said mickey ward didnt complain about that lol. floyd would kill his self if he woke up as mickey ward.
Yeah, that shit sickening and very frausting. I'm a fan of both, why can't people have civil conservations on they're opinions. It's crazy!
Despite, the hate and biases of Larry Merchant, I must say I won't fire him at all. I have to admit, he gives a spice to the commentary and as long as he don't really come with some racist remarks I say it's good for business and he could live without the fear of somebody trying to kill him! LOL

FLOYD STILL FOUGHT WELL THOUGH.........OUTPOINTING CASTILLO ALL THE WAY HERE...........NOTHING LIKE THE FIRST FIGHT!!!
So what was this fight? Clearly won by FM? Don`t think so, man!
at least Lampley and Foreman are unbiased commentators. Merchant is just a clear hater..
@xpect420 He also claims Whitaker is his favorite fighter. What would Whitaker say about that?
@gonchito1 I think Joe Frazier would of still been able to beat a prime Ali. Frazier just had his number. Same thing with Ken Norton.
LARRY MERCHANT IS A TOOL!!!..........LOL
He's a scared little man
"punch and move doesn't move me but it can win the fight". The objective of the game is to hit and NOT get hit. Larry Merchant is/was full of shit.
This fight woesnt even close...HOW DID THEY LEDERMAN GIVE THE 9TH ROUND TO CASTILLO? Wtf are these idiots watching? I dont think Lederman or Larry Merchant Know anything about boxing...Floyd already told them that anyways.
@Limekiln71 The fact is that I'm telling you the facts, and you're simply ignoring them.
@gonchito1 And Floyd Patterson was not even close to being as skilled, nor as powerful as Joe Frazier.
@bucks25slugga yeah he hates great fighters lol
floyd won this fight 117-110
try watching it again and remove all biased thoughts
i hate larry merchant, he hates FMW so much. He is absurd.
"When I want to see the Tour De France, I'll go to France
Except Mayweather is still fighting. And he's taking a big risk, against Guerrero. That's gonna be a great fight. :)
L. "The Hatter" Merchant its not about you! SM=- So Much Hate...
floyd lost the 1st fight its like manny vs marquez 3 and all under bob arum hmmmmmmm i see a pattern bob fixer the 2nd fight mayweather fucked him doe
@yashar254 hopefully soon lool
