    I just picked up a pack of 4 of these(2 black, a red, & a blue one) for around $6.00 at my local Wal Mart.

    Wow I didn't know this was even happening. To be honest I've never been a big fan of the 207, however the 307 is one of my favorite pens ever. I find the ink so much richer and smoother. Hopefully the 307 sticks around. I know its really easy to find or popular but I do love it.
    Edit: seems like the 207 has Super Ink Technology and the 207plus+ and 307 BOTH have the Super Ink + Technology which is "Nano Ink" and writes on glossy paper. I imagine Uni is rebranding the 307's ink into 207 to make it appeal more to people who know the 207? Honestly I don't care what they call it as long as they keep selling that Nano Ink I love it so much

      I've a a feeling your are absolutely correct here. As a southpaw, I have a hard time with 207 ink as it doesn't dry fast enough and it then smears, especially if you are drawing lines very fast. The 307, although not as dark, dries much faster, especially on treated paper. I think the 207 remained more popular because its colors are far darker and look luxurious, the 307 less so, as well as the lack of several sizes. I use the 307 routinely but use the 207 BOLD when I need a bold accent.
      Because the 307 really never caught on, I think, like you, they rebranded it to the 207 moniker to make it more recognizable, but I think the 207 plus and the 307 have exactly the same ink. And I don't care about the barrel because I slip the ink refill into a Pilot barrel which feels more comfortable to the grip.
      The only problem I have with the 307 is that the ink supply is dispensed at different rates as the supply is being used. At the beginning, it flows out voluminously, about a quarter down, it sort of dries up and the ink is dispensed with much less volume, and then another quarter of the way, the volume increases to somewhere in-between feast and famine and stays that way until all is used up. This has happened with every single 307 pen I've purchased.

      @@DrSFG which pilot barrel do you use?
      How do the inks of 207, 307 & 207++ perform when it comes to bleeding through thin or old paper?.
      Is the 307 0.5 mm as thin as the 207 0.5mm?
      Thanks in advance

    • @DrSFG

      @@therealb888 I use the Pilot G-2 barrel.
      From the bleeds that I've had in my cotton dress shirts, the 207 bleeds more than the 307 or 207 Plus+.
      I don't think the 307 or the 207 Plus+ comes in a 0.5mm version, only a 0.7 version. I wish they would come in a 1.0mm version!

    • @therealb888
      @therealb888 Před 2 lety +1

      @@DrSFG Thanks for replying. I'll test the G2 barrel with these refills. I had seen a listing for UMR-85E cartridge. The 5 in 85 refers to 0.5mm & E is for the superink plus+ (307/207 Plus+) if I'm not wrong. I believe when 207 plus+ was first released it had a different ink than the 307 but these days both are advertised as having "super ink plus+ technology"..
      Am right in saying both the 207 plus + & 307 use the same cartridge nowadays?

    • @DrSFG
      @DrSFG Před 2 lety +3

      @@therealb888 I'm not so sure of that. One of the problems I continually had with the 307 was that the ink did not flow uniformly as it was used. At the beginning it would come out voluminous and thick. Then when about one third of the barrel ink was spent it would suddenly put on the breaks and the ink would come out sparsely and writing was more difficult. Then about 60% used, the ink would flow more naturally again, not in gushes like originally. This was happening with every single pen I used. This is not happening with the 207plus+. The ink flows out more uniform now. Not perfect, but much better.

      @@kurtsell8376 Thanks for answering. You're right, the UMR 87E is the same refill for 207/307. They're definitely the same ink, gel & tip wise.
      Locally I bought 207++ pens with refills 2-3yrs old & have been having issues with the ink flow skipping. Wonder how old the US stock you get at staples & such. Have you had any such issues?. The date of the refill manufacturing is either on the refill body or the refill pack.
      On a side note, while uni superink is marketed as archival grade I couldn't find any independent certifications that it adheres to. In europe, aerospace documents mandate the use of ISO 27668-2 pens. This ISO standard defines are the waterproof & fraud proof minimums for gel ink ball pens.

    Excited to try the 207 plus+ after this video. BIG disappointment. Feather light weight did not help with controlling my writing. The grip was not a grip, smooth grip was not stable with the clip constantly rotating into the craw of my hand. Ink bled through paper in my journal on i's and t crosses. And for an aggressive writer like me, this was way too slippery with little feedback and friction. Probably best suited to more delicate writers. I am sure some may like it. Going back to my unexciting ball points.
