- This is the Škoda Octavia. If you've ever been to the Czech Republic, you're surely familiar with it, because they are absolutely everywhere. In fact, the Škoda Octavia tops the best selling cars list almost every year in this country.
Especially after 1996, the Octavia has become the quintissential family vehicle in the Czech Republic.
In this video, we'll explore the history and future of this storied car model, how it came to be, and why it is so popular.

My city's police fleet is mostly 4th-gen Škoda Octavias. These cars look really good. The Czech must be really proud of this machine
It's pretty great, not gonna lie
I go to school with a Škoda too.
It's a Škoda 471 CityElefant multiple electic unit and sometimes the Škoda 15T Kotasova Obluda (formaly ForCity Alfa) or 14T Porschetta (formaly Elektra) tram...
based and transitpilled
@@TheTramly Well, my family did use to have a "Oktávka" as well... (Not like it was sold in 2016 or anything)
And tbh, the 15T is ok, to me, it doesn't feel as "speedy" as the T3PV/RP/RPLF, though that's probably caused by the fact it goes nice and smooth instead of the "funky" pedal regulated movement of the T3, and generally the T3 is just nosier, so the speed really stands out / can be felt, unlike in the 15T, which, at the same speed, offers a quieter ride... But in my introvert opinion, it could use not having the double seating arrangement (The seats are annoying, especially when i sit by the window, and one stop before I'm getting off, someone sits down next to me, and i have to make my way out like an idiot in time to exit the tram at the next stop, but I'm not forced to sit I guess...).
And the 14T is ok as well... Just, at least when fully crammed, a bit too narrow...
You have a really good presentation style and cadence. Even though I haven’t been as far as Central Europe yet, your videos are very enjoyable
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the video
Great car! Octavia is also very popular here in Poland as well as Fabia.
The Octavia and the Fabia are both great cars!
I actually went with my brother few days ago into the city and drove around just to try driving the 4th gen Octavia. We did it this way also to just try Toyota Corolla, Yaris, Škoda Superb LK 4x4 and Audi A4. Octavia was the best xd
haha, that's great to hear!
I've personally never driven an Octavia, but I have driven a Scala, and a Fabia
From what I have seen on the internet... Škoda is apart from Czechia, Slovakia, Poland and those countries also one of the most popular brands in Finland, Estonia and even Iceland.
It's true, Škoda is very popular in Europe as a whole
Great video as always Tramly!
Thank you!
Aaa, beloved Škodovka
Felicia
Škodovka supremacy💪😤
It also tops the list in several other countries regularly, e.g. Switzerland.
I would find it more useful if the conversion from Czech crowns was made into Euro, not USD. Why not take the currency of your neighbours instead of one that is a continent away?
That's true, I probably should've used EUR, instead of USD
even in romania, those who don't have dacias have octavias 😂😂😂
hahaha, it's truly the people's car!
@@TheTramly Indeed!
Design from around 2013 when Rapid was introcuced was the best by my opinion. I hate modern asian-like organic design, I want back our european technical functionalist degign and around 2012, it looked like Škoda can be only one (maybe together with some VW cars) which will go against main stream and brings european design back, but it didn't last for long and today Škoda cars look totaly asian to me.
I agree that all cars look the same nowadays, it's quite a shame
Not Asian but rather Korean, Japanese cars usually have a very good design both inside and out. I think one bottleneck in the Skoda design is the "waterfall" grille and maybe I'm wrong, but it appears that the entire care is designed around it. I think if that could be somehow changed, Škoda designers would probably be able to add much more fluid lines to the overall design. I find some features on Škodas today a bit too angular and jagged, such as head- and taillights. Otherwise Octavias are decent workhorses, very good for company fleets, with average to good reliability.
