How Public Transport Makes Sporting Events Better - IIHF 2024

- If you’re watching this video around the date of release, the 2024 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship is underway. This iteration of the tournament is hosted in my home country of Czech Republic, in the capital city of Prague, and in the eastern city of Ostrava.
Tens of thousands of tourists, from Czechia and from abroad, are descending onto the 2 cities, ready to experience the largest hockey event of the year, and definitely not to get drunk while they’re here.
Thankfully, both cities have made extensive preparations to ensure the smooth handling of the massive demand. In this video, we’ll take a look at the transport implications of the massive tournament, the improvements that have been made just in time for the event, and how, in my opinion, the cities are ideal for handling the massive influx of tourists.

I don't understand how any city could allow for a venue to be constructed without access to high-capacity transit. Just the amount of drunk-driving must be absolute madness.
Absolutely..
Same with the US requiring parking at bars
The only bad thing about this is, because i live not too far away from the o2 arena, theres drunk people everywhere
That tends to happen when you’re in a pub
Ostrava arena looks really nice.
It does!
Thank you, sir!
You're welcome!
Timing means that NHL cities can’t host the tournament , but Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Montreal, Toronto, Minnesota, Seattle, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Seattle, Denver, and yes Los Angeles could give World Championship attendees the same visitor experience that Prague and Ostrava can give.
Another great video! ❤
Thank you!

And finally this time (but I guess it's because of championship again) they also increased metro capacity for Rammstein concerts. In previous years, it was like zombie apocalypse when you left some big concert in Letňany, but I guess that 2x60 000 people are already that much that they can't ignore it like they always do, because in this country, they care only about stupid football and ice hockey, but when you have 60 000 people at concert, nobody cares that they also want to get out of there.
Yeah..
I haven't been to the Rammstein concert in Letňany, but I can imagine the absolute pandemonium that happened there are it ends..
it's a damn shame that there's no train connection to Letňany, like there is to Eden (Slavia Praha fans definitely appreciate that) that would be really, really helpful
@@TheTramly I've been to Letňany for Metallica in 2022 and we gave up when we saw enterance to the metro and we just walked to some bus more far from metro station. After Rammstein, metro was going every one minute and there were even info persons from DPP, so that was good. I still didn't see new train stop next to Eden, the last time I was there was for Iron Maiden concert and that was in like 2015 or 2016. Honestly, I don't like these modern football stadiums for concerts, but what really surprised me (in a possitive way) was national statium in Katowice, Poland, that was very well managed and each sector has it's own food/beer stands and high capacity toilets, it was really comfortable, we live in middle ages here.
In my experience for football matches they dont increase public transport capacity either
Well, there is only one thing left to say:
-"ukončete prosím výstuo a nástup, dveře se zavírají!"
-*metro door makes its sound an slaps closed*
-*81-71M starts making a high pitched noise and departs*
-"příští stanice, Českomoravská"
Or two things, I suppose:
-*T3R.P of the 8 line stops rather roughly and the old school door squeaks open*
-"Nádraží Libeň, příští zastávka Aréna Libeň jih"
I actually commute pretty close to the O2 arena, passing, onboard a class 471 double decker suburban EMU of line S2, through the Praha-Vysočany station every day...
Edit:
The fc* is going on again. I just saw a politician from Motoristé sobě saying global warming is hoax... (It's no hoax if somebody here doesn't know)
"Konečná zastávka, prosíme vystupte"
and about motoristé sobě, well..
wouldn't expect anything better from them
In Antwerpen we have the "Sportpaleis", which ironically has nothing to do with sports. But it has a dedicated prémetro station and barely has any parking.
Reminds me of the Prague metro station "Invalidovna", meaning roughly "housing for disabled people"
*the station isn't wheelchair accessible*
@@TheTramlydamn that sucks
Antwerpen is the city, and the rest of flanders is parking zeker?
Another banger as always! If you ever need transit footage from the East Coast, hmu.
Thank you!
And thank you for the generous offer as well!
if you'd like to film some footage of transit on the east coast, please e-mail me at thetramly@gmail.com
just know that currently, the most I'll be able to offer is crediting your work in the video, the channel really doesn't make money..
Sporting events and events in general are a huge motivator for projects to be made. The only reason an airport-rail link exists here in Bucharest is because of some football matches.
That's good to hear!
