    Savage needs to get it’s collective act together. They need to perform at least basic quality control on their products. I bought one of the beautiful to look at .17 WSM B mag rifles. It is stainless and mounted in a beautiful Boyd’s thumb hole stock.
    First Oops I discovered was the scope mounting blocks were not mounted aligned and squarely on the receiver.. I mounted my scope anyway ( high quality scope 6x24). I took it to shoot . I do initial sight-in at 25 yards. I could not get groups better than bad 100 yard ones would be. Inch to inch and a half. Even those not consistent. Took it to good gunsmith that I trust. He tore into it and found where the barrel was screwed into receiver it was head spaced by not screwing the barrel to the machined shoulder on the barrel and with no jamb nut to tighten when positioned properly it is very hincky to us. Then there was the discovery of the receiver and barrel threads were full of the glass beads used when they put surface finish on stainless metal of the gun.
    Savage has to do whatever to their pricing to permit them to make certain a gun that otherwise is pleasing to look at and when celestial bodies align properly is highly accurate. I cannot understand why they want to screw around with their reputation like this. The fitment and finish is from Fred Flintstone. But I will hone and polish the moving parts. The trigger is a POS also. I love the look of the gun though. Does anybody make an after market trigger assembly for this rifle? I tried to save money by buying an inexpensive rifle. By the time I get it to shoot I could have bought a good one to begin with. It has now become a quest for me. I have heard of some people getting a shooter, if they can be believed. I bought a model 700 Remington brand new one time back when they were known to be good and it shot as badly as this Savage. So ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances. A riffle that isn’t accurate holds no interest to me as shooting little groups is what I do. I don’t hunt. I am not against it, in fact I support it, I just have no stomach for it anymore.

    I haven't done it to mine because this was the first I've heard of it and I'm not going. To do it because mine works just fine. I think this is why this gun has started dying out I love mine and think it's a great round .yes the stock isn't made by bell and Carlsen but it's just a little weak in the forearm . But hell I got mine for under 200 bucks and it was a easy fix

    The problem of the firing pin only cocking when the bolt is cycled with the safety off is still an issue. Has this safety and first shot reliability issue been fixed?

    • @cavedweller1959
      @cavedweller1959  Před 8 lety +1

      I think a lot of folks will find fault with this issue, Myself, I could not care less. If you are - Walking Hunting - Say, hunting rabbits, Pop in a loaded mag, close the bolt, engage safety, Big deal. For me, this is only a bench rifle. I only load when ready to fire. Since installing the factory supplied parts for the recall, I can't say I have ever used the safety.

    Hate how difficult reloading the magazine is. Is there an after market magazine that has this problem solved? Is there available a high capacity magazine for .17 WSW available for this rifle?

      +Rolland Lynch Im with you. I lie the look of the look of the angled original cap on the back. I know the new one has mure clearance but I never had a problem getting to the safety. I just ordered mine. I'll try it. I cant see why it wouldn't be able to go back on.

    • @cavedweller1959
      @cavedweller1959  Před 8 lety

      +kuffs06 Just going from memory, I would say it will still fit. What was dragging over the safety was the collar on the bolt handle .

    • @kuffs06
      @kuffs06 Před 8 lety

      So I got my kit and change it out. I tried the original angled cap. It does fit however it's round. The replacement handle and cap are tapered on one side. If you put the angled cap back on, it doesn't look too good as the handle is thinner. I ended up using the new one.
      Just use everything they give you in the kit. Very easy to do.
      Cheers

      @cavedweller1959  Před 4 lety

      With the B-Mag, I firmly believe so. If not for a ridged stock, I would have parted with this rifle long ago. Every so often someone will comment they have the plastic version and it shoots as well as this one. For the first couple years after I did this video, no one had posted one of a plastic model shooting good groups. That may have changed,I haven't searched for it for a long time

    I am extremely upset with Boyds right now. I have ordered a gunstock for my BMag. I have no issues with the stock itself but there is no magazine catch. I waited intially about 4-6 weeks for the gunstock, no problem. I then called about the issue and they sent me another trigger guard about a month later. Again, I gave them another call, explained the issue in detail, waited another 3 weeks only to find out they sent me another trigger guard. Did your Boyd stock come with a magazine catch for your B-Mag? The plastic one that comes on the Savage will not just drop on. There has to be a solution.

    • @39mace
      @39mace Před 8 lety

      I only ask because it looks like a Boyds Gunstock from the video.

    • @cavedweller1959
      @cavedweller1959  Před 8 lety +2

      You got me scratching my head on this one!! On my B-MAG the mag catch is attached to the barreled action by the threaded lug the front action bolt screws into, you should never have to remove it from the action. I also have a video about glass bedding this rifle and the mag catch is the reason I did not glass the lug area.

    • @39mace
      @39mace Před 8 lety

      I appreciate your reply. I have just been too busy with work to take a better look at the issue. You were correct about the mag catch being attached to the barrel action by the threaded lug. After looking at why it was not catching, I realized the mag was not going forward enough to engage the catch. I will need to file the inside (front part of the compartment) the stock ever so slightly so that the mag is able to tilt into the stock enough to latch. I will let you know how it turns out. It should be an easy fix. Thanks
