- Bote rover going through the surf to fish the oil rigs for kingfish. Finally had some decent weather this year so we had to go out for some kingfish. Catch and cook just have to power through the mercury poisoning.

smoothg33 - I was thinking the same thing, he won’t wear it saying it gets in the way. We rescued a friend on cold fresh water when he dumped out if his 11 foot zodiac type boat. The boat was going in circles and he had to keep dodging being hit by it and had a gash in his calf from the prop when he tried to catch the side ropes and pull himself in. We caught everything, he lived fare a big infection and several weeks of rehab. He wears his safety cable now. It took almost dying to convince him.
Absolutely best advice especially when by yourself. I was in a 15' scout center console fishing off the beach when I hit a big swell going full throttle and the motor kicked sideways throwing me to the side. I managed to grab the bar going around my windshield with one hand and my entire body off the side of the boat. Didn't have the kill switch on. Was able to pull myself back in and throttle down. I promise you I wore it from then on! I couldn't imagine what would have happened if I got thrown out. About 5 miles off shore too. Praise God for sparing my life!

That is pretty cool to see you wearing a Rockport shirt I used to live in Rockport Texas in fact I used to work for a ACB Marine right in Rockport I was the first mate on there 65-foot boat were they did Salvage but I left back in 19 86 been a long time ago I really miss Texas the fishing was always excellent.

Hey Guy, that King Fish looked legit.. I know you like to catch and cook up flounder quite a bit as well.
I have a quick recipe for ya, which you might dig. Growing up in Alaska we ate a lot of halibut and still do. Flounder is very similar to Halibut and as such, this recipe should work well for it also.
Halibut or Flounder Olympia.
You need 2 flounder fillets.
12 to 16 oz of sour cream
8 to 12 oz of mayonnaise
Shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 of a sweet onion
Salt
Pepper
Garlic - granulated
Cayenne - a pinch or two
And Olive oil...
Take 1/2 onion slice into 1/4 in. Rings and lay on bottom of casserole pan. Drizzle olive oil over onions and bottom of pan liberally.
Next, lay first flounder fillet over onions.
Mix sour cream and mayo together in bowl, add salt, pepper, gran garlic, and a pinch or two of cayenne. Mix well, until very smooth and no lumps.
Spread 1/2 of mixture over fillet, don’t worry about it running over the sides of fillet.
Next, lay 2nd fillet over it.
Spread the rest of mixture over this fillet, smooth it out and top with any seasonings you think would be good...
Next thick layer of cheese over the entree, use as much or as little as you wish.
Over in foil, place in preheated oven at 350 degrees.
Should be done in 30 to 45 min. Once fish is flakey and white, it is done.
Serve with white rice and veggie of choice. I like frozen peas with it, but to each their own.
Fattening dish, but very good now and then as a comfort food.

In the business of Pro fishing we call that hook-up a foul hook. It happens when the fish turns on the bait hitting it with the side of the body. The skin is smooth and very thin on a king mackerel so the treble-hook grabs on. I am a retired Pro Saltwater fisherman. Pro meaning I made a living at it. Of coarse we are on expensive boats but you just proved it can be done without one. I've been in many TV shows, tournaments and magazines fishing out of Perdido Pass Alabama. Was doing shows on Gary Finch back in 2001. Your video right here is AMAZING!! It captures the moment perfectly of the "HOOK-UP"! Great job! Come see me sometime and we'll go over some reel pro tips on how to hook the biggest of the bunch. When they get a little bigger we call them "Smokers" because they can make the drag on the reel smoke!
