Every facet of his game has surpassed the label âworld classâ. Vision, creativity, passing, dribbling & finishing. In each of those categories you have players that strive to be on the level with Messi in just 1 of those categories.
Every once in a while you get a world class player that has a couple of those attributes, like Iniesta (My favorite player along with ScholesâŠI was a midfielder, so sue me.), DeBruyne, CR7, etc.

All that plus 4 goals and 1 assist. He absolutely decimated not just anyone on his team, but the entire competition in that tournament on an individual basis, and it is an absolute outrage that he only had 1 ASSIST, despite being the literal most creative player in that tournament, and generating so much xG for his team.
His individual contributions, analyzed by Opta were extremely close to Maradona's in 1986 while being far more tightly marked

Opta analysis, showed Messi having to drop so deep to play as a ball progressor, and go forward and be the chance creator, and still be the main goalscorer. He barely got any chances inside the box, against Belgium on the counter was the only game I can remember him being through.
Mascherano was NOWHERE near Messi's level in that tournament, nor where Muller or Robben as individuals. James might have been the only one with a shout, but he was out in the quarters.
