Here's a quick video on how to clean your CPAP Machine. You just need a bit of hot soapy water. Easy!
Although this example was with a ResMed AirSense 11. The same method can be used with any cpap brand.
Daily Clean - Just empty the water chamber, give it a quick wipe on the heater plate and then wipe down the mask cushion to remove oil and sweat with a cpap wipe
Weekly Clean - Hot, Soapy water, let the gear sit in it for 5 minutes and then rinse off with fresh water and leave to dry.
Every month put in a new filter. Easy!

Man this dude trusts the cleanliness of his bathroom sink. I bet 60% of people have a bathroom sink like I do. Im going to get a new Rubbermaid container and ONLY use it to clean CPAP supplies rather than risk unleashing some new biological entity into my CPAP. But thanks for showing me the brush and wipes!
This is the way
Agreed. That’s absolutely disgusting.
Thank you!!! I have ADHD and my executive dysfunction complicates matters. I felt so overwhelmed by previous videos (two years ago) with the vinegar and distilled water cleaning instructions that I just stopped using it. My health has deteriorated. Thank you!!! I’m cleaning my machine now!!! Here’s to better health & self care!!! Much gratitude!!! ♥️💫♥️
Thank you for this informative tutorial. As a new CPAP user it takes the guess work and stress out of my new routine. True of all your honest and simple videos and guides. Thank you from the US.👍🏼
Learned so much from this and it was only 6 minutes. Thanks for caring about people's sleep health when it seems often over looked by most
You know I've spent all morning until I finally saw your video and after watching your video I got my machine clean and now I'm ready to move on to my next mission for the day. Thanks you really helped me stop overthinking this and getting in done efficiently and thoroughly.
Excellent. Thank you. Just got an Airsense 11, wow, slept 8.5 hrs first night. Haven't slept that good in many years. Now I know how to clean everything. Best info. Thank you.
This is fantastic. I am at my first week in on my CPAP trial and had read and seen so many things on cleaning. You kept this simple and to the point. After watching many of your videos, I looked specifically for you today for cleaning. Was not disappointed and I have now subscribed to your channel. Thanks a bunch!
Thank You! So many articles and videos go into depth on the mask & tubes, but rarely ever mention the inside of the machine.
Exactly what I was looking for. Super helpful friend. Thank you very much for your fine video.
Thank you mate!! First month with the Cpap machine!
Hi Nick, thanks again as always. I am waiting for my 11 machine to show up, using an 8 now and so looking forward to the new machine, I am watching all your videos to get up to speed & of course thumbing up & sharing!
This was an excellent “ how to clean a cpap” tutorial. You were Straightforward❣️
Just discovered your videos today. Super helpful!!
Love the video, mate! To the point with a hint of humor that isn't invasive...Right on!
Awesome video! I just got an Airsense 11 and have been dreading the cleaning process because, I thought it would be hard, but it’s not!!! So helpful, thank you!
Fantastic! Thank you so much. Best CPAP videos bar none.
Awesome mate, glad you enjoyed it
Great video Nicko!
Excellent reminder mate! Just used the Purdoux CPAP soap this morning to clean my Bleep tube. Good stuff. Cheers Nicko!
Soooo pumped for the new Eclipse mate! All the best ya bloody legend
@@CPAPReviews I’m excited about the Eclipse and looking forward to one of your legendary reviews mate.
Great video .... I did not know that the humidifier came apart at the hinges for easier cleaning. I've read all my Redsmed manuals backward & forward. Nothing is written about that. Also the mask wipes, hypoallergenic filters and tube brush where all new to me also. Thanks so much for the good work and good evening from Roanoke, Virginia USA.
Nice one Garrett, glad you picked up a few new tricks. All the best. Nicko
I had no idea the mask snapped apart into components. You legend. Thanks
Found out myself, from Nick's videos :)
Wow, great information! I will do cleaning right. Thanks.
Very helpful! Thanks for the info!
Thank you this is super clear and very helpful
You Are The Best Nicko .... !!!!!!!
Well that’s very nice of you to say! 🫶
Brilliant! thx a lot, m8. Just got my machine and clueless on how to clean and maintain it
Thank you! Very helpful!
Great channel. When I thought I spilled water inside my machine, you had a video showing how to completely take it apart. I did so with ease and everything was dry but later I was having respiratory problems. I'm religious about keeping my machine clean so I took it apart again and found dust and debris on the sponges inside which indicated a leakage some place. I cleaned everything real well and let the sponges dry completely. After re-assembly, it had an audible leak and I had to take it apart and re-assemble to solve that problem! I heard there was a pill that could replace the CPAP machine but who wants to pump that through their bodies? (Actually, you do a video about that too! Bravo for staying on top of things!)
EXACTLY what I needed and was looking for! You even have the mask I use, so everything was there that I needed… no need to watch multiple videos. Now, just need to find those hypoallergenic filters. THANKS1
Glad I could help! Best wishes my friend
What mask is that?
Oooo that's a grand idea on the as10 hypo filter cut for the as11! I'll do that. Finally found a seller with the heated tube in stock, it'll be here just in time for spring. Haha.
haha, nice one mate! Glad you found one All the best legend
I'm in the opposite boat, I guess. I can only find AS11 HEPA/hypoallergenic filters and not any for the AS10.
Where do you source your supplies?
I wash the same way. Weekly a good wash. I have sponge filter I wash it with cold water, let it air dry. Every few months take it completely apart and give it a good wipe down with a CPAP cleaning wipes.
I want to say thank you so much for your informative videos mate. I had gotten Covid twice and that second time around my tonsils became extremely enlarged and I developed severe obstructive sleep apnea. I want to leave this comment saying thank you for all the time you spend informing us and also just making people comfortable with the whole process of sleeping with a mask every night. I greatly appreciate all the content you put out there brotha
You didn't covid you were just told you had it...
@@apostle6100 -1 faith in humanity
Consider getting your tonsils out?
Sounds like tonsillitis to me
Well done!
Want to save some money, cut the mask wipe in half. Or just run the mask under soapy water and let it air dry. I have been soaking mine in just soap and water for the last 6 years every 2 weeks and air dry. Life moves on and I was still on all my original hoses and tanks. I assume if it was wrong, I would of had issues during that time. Like the video shows, simple just works.
Thanks for sharing your great suggestions and experience. All the best. Nick
I haven't been cleaning my CPAP as I should be. As a warning for my fellow lazy people, I have been getting sick with sinus infections about once a month which have been leading to ear infections. Only recently did I tie it to not cleaning my CPAP. I will definitely start a cleaning regimen.
I like to add vinegar in the soapy water. Easy peasy my same routine. Great minds think alike. I agree with once a month filter change.
Filter change every two weeks.
Hurricane dryer! Highly recommend.
I asked my Dr about cleaning, he really simplified it for me. I just take the airframe , mask and the water tank into the shower. Makes it quick and easy. He said once a week a deep cleaning is all that’s necessary.
I do the long tubewire with the showerhead in 2 seconds.
@@BE-bs8oe
So it’s ok to surmerge in water the end of the tube with the connectors to machine ? TYIA.
@@gigiontubeyes it is. My hubby is an electrician and he said it was fine. So I soak my tube in the water. Never had a problem
Just make sure it is totally dry. I have 2, so I swap to the other one on wash day
Everyone. Please make sure your sink is super clean if your going to fill it up.
Helpful video! (Don’t forget to put the seat down!)
Thank you!!
Thanks for the video. I wash the mask with soap once a day. Once a week I put my mask and tubing and soak it in vinegar for at least 15 minutes. I usually soak it in vinegar for an hour. Vinegar usually kills everything. Hope this helps. I have used my CPAP machine for many years.
Thank you
Welcome Norma
Thanks!
Very kind of you!! 🥳
I didn't know about the machine filter or that I needed to clean the internal part. Thanks!
It’s a shame they didn’t tell you this when you got your machine. Poor customer service
Thanks 😊
Great instructions. I just cleaned my AirSense 10. One thing I discovered, however, that in order to pull that doohickey off the back of the machine I have to rotate a circular ring in order to get it off. I never noticed that before, and I wonder if that wasn't causing me problems because I noticed it wasn't totally locked in when I removed it. I'm very grateful for these videos cause I'm discovering things I never knew before. Thanks Mate!
Glad you enjoyed it mate. Cheers for the support. Nicko
Great!
Great info! Thank you! I've been wondering if you could cut down the AS10 filters.
Thank you once again for showing the native New Yorker how to do something different with this machine! I thought that water chamber should come apart. I have not heard of the mask wipes, but was told could use baby wipes. EZ PEESY!
Nice one donna. A big hello from Melbourne
According to manufacter only use plain soap, I guess Castille soap kind. Wipes and other stuff might contain crème like or antibacterial composants we don't want you the breathe in.
I can't thank you enough for all these videos, I've been on cpap therapy for the last 6 days, and already have noticed a change. Your videos have been a godsend on just how to use it comfortably.. I'm honestly not sure how I'd be if I hadn't stumbled upon your videos. I do have one question- I have the f20 mask with the memory foam- I've been using the wipes and kind of squeezing the foam with the wipes to hopefully get the face oils out of there. Then I spray everything with cpap sanitizer.
Is there a better way to do it? Also I've seen mixed info about whether or not I should submerge the mask because of the foam- in fact the tech who came over to fit me and show me how to use the machine has the same mask and he told me he doesn't soak it- he just surface cleans the entire mask with wipe. What do you suggest? I'm about to embark on my first "weekly" thorough cleaning, and not sure what to do about the mask.
I almost did not click on this one... lol But exactly what I do except I do all that in the shower. And I change my hypo-filter once a month, but I use the regular filter in addition which gets changed every week. Regular filter fist and hepafilter second. Good vid. Thank you for not getting naked.
Nice one Andy, i have considered that myself and wrote to ResMed about it (didn't get a reply as per usual). I'm worried that if there's too much filter restriction it could potentially cause the turbine to overheat as it's hard to bring in the air. Playing it safe for the time being especially with the smaller turbine in the AS11. Cheers
Cheers!
I use baby wipes from amazon. They work great and are the same thing as cpap wipes without the crazy price
Hello, Thank you for all the amazing advice and tips, very much appreciated. I have ResMed AirCurve 10, does the little inner tube come out of mine. I can't figure out how to get it out. Thank you for your time.
When it comes to the filter, I've been following the advice the breathing unit nurse gave me long ago: I take it out once every two weeks and flick it a couple of times with my finger to knock out most of the dust (easily visible when doing it in front of a lamp), and then make sure to put it back in with the dusty side facing out. Then I replace it once every 6 months, just as ResMed suggests.
Note that this is with the regular filter type, I'm not sure if it's possible to knock out dust all that well with the hypoallergenic filter type.
wonder if vacumming on the dirty side would be ok?
@@Avlikesoreoandsunny I don't see why not, and it should reasonably be more effective as well. Personally I like the simple flicking procedure so I'll stick with the nurse's advice. 🙂
The ResMed channel says not to leave it in direct sunlight as it can damage the plastic. 😊
Exactly, no direct sunlight.
thank you
You're welcome
I cleaned my CPAP exactly like this. Even rocking the hose back and forth with soapy water. I used cheap baby shampoo.
Great video Nicko, thank you. Great to be reminded of how simple cleaning is. I’m a bit paranoid about creepy crawlies climbing into my tubing when I hang it up daily to air so I wrap socks tightly round the ends to stop this. I should imagine in Oz you have far more nasties than in UK ie spiders and fire ants both nasty little critters, does this bother you or am I being super paranoid, just don’t fancy breathing them in 🤗
Great video is a mind of information . Thank you
So glad I'm not the only person who thinks about this. I run my machine for a few minutes before putting the mask on in the hopes that if there's a creepy crawly it'll get blown out lol
Oh shit I never thought of that!
@@icerose27 😂Good idea.
Great & simple video explanation. If I can ask is there anywhere in Australia that I can get hypoallergenic filter as you mentioned in the video for my resmed 11? Thank you
I'm new to the cpap life and this is exactly everything I do so I must be doing something right. Except I change my filter every 2 weeks because That's what I was told to do. Great video
I was told to change the filter every two weeks, also.
Same. Just got my Air Sense 11 a week ago and was told to change every two weeks but the refills mentioned d not needing the filter if you are using the humidifier.
Hey mate !
Just because of all the standard uses of the bathroom basin, yanno' shaving, brushing your teeth, hair brushing and all kinds of. "other daily hygiene activities; I wouldn't consider it the best place to cleanse my Cpap equipment. To each his own though.. It seems to me you could be inviting more things IN than washing them 0UT. Even with meticulous housekeeping you're still connected to a sewer drain.
As I understood it you should always cleans in a vessel dedicated 0NLY to your Cpap equipment. Maybe I'm wrong .
Just do it with your showerhead and keep a clean towel ready to put all items to dry. You're right.
I have a washbasin that is only used for CPAP cleaning. The sink is one of the dirtiest places!
@@connieliles : Absolutely ... !
Might as well utilize the Crapper.
The tech that issued me the cpap said to just take the tubing, basin and some hypoallergenic baby shampoo/wash in the shower with me and clean them that way.
How you doing?
I really appreciate your work giving us very useful advices on how imorove our cpap therapy
I've noticed that after cleaning the headgear it doesn't fasten as much as it should
Would you give advice about it?
I"m sorry if my English is not good
I'm not native speaker
Regards from Uruguay!
Pretty good. What type of liquid soap do you recommend for cleaning? Thanks
Thank you I’m having trouble taking of my mask
For cleaning my mask should I clean every day or every two weeks wear could I buy the wipe cleaner and soap to clean my tube
Thanks for the video Nick. I'm a bit wary about dismantling the water chamber often as I'm abit worried that it will become loose after some time.
Water chambers are generally scheduled for periodic replacement anyway.

hi nick , thx ur videos . I am thinking to upgrade to airsense11 from Dreamstation. my problem is dry mouth, do u think new model Resmed 11 improve this? thx
Hi, which CPAP machine do you best recommend between the Resmed Airsense 11 or the Fisher Paykel Sleepstyle?? Thanks!
I got a question, would a HEPA filter work? I found one on amazon for a pack of 52 for cheap. I know HEPA filters are hypoallergenic filters but I wanted to see what your thoughts are on that?
Cheers
Good video! Thank you. Which mask you have there mate?
Thanks mate, appreciate that. It's the Evora Full by Fisher And Paykel. Cheers
Can you include links for the soap and wipes you are using?
After rinsing the hose, I put one end of the tube on a inflater used for mattresses and let it run for a few minutes to get most of the water still on the hose
Great tip! Appreciate it
great idea, how about just connecting it and let the machine blow some air thru it?
Or you could just run the "mask fit" option to generate artificial air pressure to evaporate all the water from the hose
@@reardelt that's what I was thinking!!
@@phamster18 I do this every night either way for about 30 seconds.
I’ve just started using a CPAP machine about a week ago. Do you still recommend emptying and drying the humidity chamber when I’m only using distilled water?
My resmed 11 was used in a perfumy room and now I smell it even tho I've cleaned my mask and water tank
Hi just need one clarification.... Can we wash down the climetline heated tube with the soapy water and then rinse it with the fresh water.....will it not cause any harm to that small chip at the connection end ot he tube to the cpap machine.....? I use an Airsense 10 autoset machine..... Please reply. Much Thanks.
What’s your advice regarding an Ozone cleaner or UVC sanitizer?
Thank you for the informative video. I just wonder about the inside of the machine though. Like buildup of mildew, etc. Is there a way to see inside it???
Hi Ruth, yes there is - czcams.com/video/vCEFQWR9z5g/video.html
Nicko, just purchased this machine; will be delivered in about a week so thank you for this cleaning tutorial of the AirSense 11. Appreciate your videos. Question: Is it ok to use Phillips products e.g. masks, cushions, tubing, filters, etc. with ResMed AirSense 11? A company that AirSense 11 was purchased from has been sending Phillips products for AirSense "For Her" cpap machine, and I just noticed this? Is this okay, Nicko?
Hi Jade, mask and cushions should be fine but i don't think filters / tubing will work (unless it's standard non heated tubing). Best wishes
How long do you submerge the mask and other components in the soapy water for?
Do I need wash mask & tube when New, before using ??
Nick great video mate. Is that Evora mask available in Canada yet ? Can’t seem to find one to try 😩
Hey mate, nah couple of months i think mate. I can get you one if you like. Probably be around $250 Cad though from Melbourne for the Fit Pack. Cheers
@@CPAPReviews thanks Nick. I will definitely keep that in mind. Best place to get a hold of you ? I just started cpap therapy and using a resmed F20. In order for me to breath through my nose I have to keep it further up the bridge of my nose. So I thought the Evora might work better ?
What about the rest of the machine ? And how often should you replace the mask and tube cause my supplier is calling me nonstop about it every month or so
I use the hypo-allergenic filters in my airsense 10. Always have, 1.5 yrs. But they are getting harder to get for some reason
This may be a dumb question, but I used cheer laundry detergent to clean my CPAP mask and hose. Now I am wondering will it be toxic to breathe in?
I didn’t know to take out the part on the inside! No one ever told me! It was gross 😂😂
It looks like you are using an Amara View mask. Does the little white hose cause rainout since its not heated? I am having a lot of rainout using this mask.
G'day, this is an Evora Full by F&P but similar to the Amara View. I haven't experienced any rainout with it because it's summer but if you want to fix your rainout you need to either 1. Increase the tube air temp so that the air can hold more water as vapour or 2. Decrease the humidity
Keeping the machine lower than your bed also seems to help
Best wishes
Nicko
👍🏾
Do i have to do that every single day?
What are your thoughts on SoClean?
I use vinegar water. Does that work
Great video as always! I use distilled water in the chamber and empty out everyday and just air dry. I don't do too much more cleaning than that because I never see anything happening.
Do you really need to wash the tubing? It is filtered air going through and only your germs are on it.
G'day Jeff, yeah i would certainly wash the tube mate. The reason being is that it has all these little ridges that provide a great spot for mould and bacteria to grow. Only takes a few seconds. Take it in the shower if you like haha. Cheers
PLEASE Never ever use distilled water, so says the guide, please ask manufacter!!!
Please, never use distilled water for the night, the manufacter s manuel says not to!
I agree with you on this one. Your germs and that is it. Many CPAP users never clean the hose.
There's the problem of the moisture from cleaning not drying, too.
My wife's hose gets changed every six months so I think that helps.
@@BE-bs8oe Why is that? I was told by a technician to use distilled, not tap water.
What about heated tubing? Does it hurt the electronics to get wet?
Hi Jake, no it's fine to get wet. Cheers
when does this come into australia as i have been hangout for one
G'day, i'm thinking late 2022 or early 2023 at this stage. They're still struggling to keep up with demand in the U.S and until then we won't see it down under. Cheers
I didn't know that the HEPA existed. Wished the filters fit more snug in the case. And I have small fingers and it always looks like my toddler put it in uggh
I don't feel comfortable yet. I am on my third night. The ramp is too slow, and I guess I'm supposed to inhale and exhale with my mouth closed? It feels hard for my lungs to push against the air flow. Still had 8.6 events last night with 6.8 hours of use. Have turned the temp way down. Not going well so far.
what sort of soap should you use? Is face wash liquid good enough or you need something more heavy duty?
Hi Jay, yeah that would be fine. I lot of people will just use dish soap :)
Baby shampoo or clear ad free dish soap or ivory dish soap
I have black mould inside my roof space that periodically shows its head so im really paranoid about where i Cant See.
I wipe down my mask daily, filter monthly and hose once every 2 weeks same as the water res but i still worry about the guts of the machine. I can imagine what the fan would be like after 100+ hours
I had no idea I was supposed to be cleaning a part on the inside of the unit that snaps out with a tab/button. I don’t remember reading about that part in the manual.
Does the hot water deform the silicone or any plastic components?
Not at all
