7 months later and Spotify still doesn't have lossless, Apple did a great job, if you have a good DAC and a good pair of headphones you will be good to go. Also good taste of music.
Spotify messed up when they decided to charge extra for their lossless. When Apple’s came free of charge, Spotify went silent.
Taste is personal. If you have a nice dac and a good pair of cans, youre good. Who cares if its metal or jazz or classical
Should I use wired headphones for lossless music?
@kabokasajmer9696 from what I've researched, yes. Wired connection gives better data latency and better overall connection. Also be aware of your headphone/earbud impedence rating for compatibility between devices.
@@kabokasajmer9696not only recommended, but required. Bluetooth isn’t capable of transmitting the lossless codec to wireless headphones. Only AAC which is a lossy format. If you want lossless on headphones, you will NEED a usb c Dac with wired phones attached.
this is a huge step for the entire music industry , the industry is gonna have a lot more power and influence once this fully rolls out to spotify and everything
Excellent video, for audiophiles is a great step in the right direction, even if there are some glitches in the MAC OS, you still can use the IPhone or IPad to get Hi-Res audio. Congratulations Apple.
Excellent tutorial!!!! Wish I'd found this video before having to figure all this out the hard way, myself.
great video as always from my new favourite channel, keep up the amazing work!

@@bassandtrebleclef yeah, i just use the internal storage🤷♂️
Really good demo, nicely illustrated with the DAC
Very educative video, thanks 😊👍
Thanks, that answers everything. 👍
What a palaver! I just bought a new hi res sony music player after selling my ipod and currently redownloading all my music. 101% happy to be reconnected with how music is supposed to sound once again without having to faff about with apple rules and shortcomings! Flacs all the way for me now no more nasty compressed files😎👍🏾👍🏾
Just get a new Samsung android phone .

Oh sweet lord I've been doing this all wrong. Thanks for the video!
Great video and explanation. Super helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank god I found this video, it worked on my mac finally!
Thanks for the how to! I have been wondering how to turn it on. I needed to go into the Audio Quality setting, that is what I missed the first few times haha, once more thanks. :) I'm no audiophile (even thought I REALLY wish I was) but I like to have the best audio quality I can get my hands on. lol
This is helpful, thank you. I think one of the reasons things are different with Mac OSX is that Macs are often used not just for playback but recording and for this, one always sets the sample rate on the external DAC, which then instructs the DAW. This is because it's by no means a given that one wants to record at the highest possible sample rate.
The only video that delves into the Mac OS problems. Thank you.
Hi! Firstly, love your videos. Super clear and helpful. I was wondering if that exact process/setup would work using Amazon Music HD instead of Apple Music? I plan on purchasing the BTR5 with a usb-c to lightning cable. Thanks a lot, cheers!
Thank you much, very helpful.
You are very welcome 😀
Thank you so much for this video. I see that samsung has a usbc to 3.5mm dongle which support up to 24bit/192kHz, does it mean i can use it with the lossless Hi-res directly?
Thanks! Wondering if a song is lossless and also Dolby Atmos , which sign should I see under this song header, lossless or Dolby Atmos?
I’m using the M2 pro iPad and I don’t see the ‘audio quality’ menu under music. Has something changed in the latest update?
thank you so much❤❤
Thanks for the video!
Between ipad mini 6, ipad 10 or iphone 14, which one do you recommend for listening to hi-res music via wired headphone? Thanks
Hi, I am a happy Apple Music user, with a good pair of IEM (Thieaudio Monarch MKII) and a couple of decent DAC/AMPs (Hidizs S9 Pro, Fiio Q3).
I am very happy of my setup, but I am considering another possibility: a DAP capable to play lossless Apple Music (possibly including hi-res), with a good sound quality (possibly even better than my current dac/amps).
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you
Can Fiio BTR5, that is connected to the iPad, be directly connected to the Iphone 12 Pro Max through Lightning-USB C or do you need an additional adapter
to have the quality 24-bit/192kHz (highlossless)
?
I don’t see the audio quality option under playback tab inspire of updating to latest version of Mac OS ..any idea if I’m missing anything?
If I connect the apple 3.5 to audio cable to my Air Pods Max and connect it directly to the jack on my Mac book would I hear the same quality as I would if I connected a proper wired pair of headphones ?
I’m trying to find out if it’s worth be buying a wired pair just for use in my house and keep my AP Max’s for outside.
Thanks for share. In my iMac with audio setup the max is 48khz 24 bit... with my Macbook Air I have more options. Why?
Hi, I am asking for advice on what is the best format to import my music that is mostly on CDs back into iTunes. In my recent effort to update my iTunes Music folder by organizing all my music by artist, I didn't realize that the song metadata that wasn't consistent in iTunes completely disorganized my efforts when I clicked on both "Consolidate" and "Reorganize" my files. In reviewing my Apple Music folder with all my songs on it, I realized that I had most of my files either in "MP3 audio" some in "AIFF-C audio" and others in "Apple MPEG-4 audio" and even some as "QuickTime movie" files (which I can't figure out how these got in their as audio files).
My goal is to get every audio file newly entered into iTunes under the best possible resolution so that (1) my audio collection is including 100% of all my available audio files, (2) these audio files are organized in the best way that suits my need (by artist or author), and (3) it has best possible audio quality that can run on both my mid-2015 MacBook Pro running Mojave (running 10.14.6) and an iPhone 6S (running iOS 15.4.1). I don't plan to upgrade either for the immediate future. I do not have any other Apple devices like an iPad.
As I stated above, I recently started updating my iTunes music and did not realize that when I was in iTunes and clicked on "Library" --> "Organize Library" that I was presented with 2 choices ("Consolidate files" and Reorganize files in the folder 'iTunes Music'." In my effort to organize my music on my MacBook Pro in the folder structure by "Artist", I didn't realize that iTunes doesn't organize the folders in reverse. In other words, the only way to structure the music in my iTunes "Music" folder is directly through iTunes and clicking on both "Album Info" and "Song Info". Modifications to the iTunes database including deleting an album and/or a song from the iTunes library (and also from the iTunes "Music" folder" into the Trash) are therefore as best I can tell are one-way only, and that being only through iTunes. If I'm the last to realize this, I am not surprised.
Before I import close to 4000 songs on several hundred CDs and other sources into my iTunes, I would like to start from the beginning so that when I next synchronize my iPhone 6S with my Macbook Pro that the library will be correct across both and that the sound files on my iPhone 6S will be at their best playable level. Thanks for your help.
thanks for the great content, where can I get such device to convert from digital to analog for Hi Res lossless?
Sony xm4’s wired sound better?
I’m using iPhone 11 and I want to buy Sony xm 4. They are wireless so only plays aac codec. If I wire them to my phone will I be able to play Apple Lossless through Apple Music? Or Sony xm4 doesn’t support lossless audio through the wire?
What is that specific dac you using?
Do you have audio problems with your iPad while using the apple usb c to 3.5mm?
Is it possible to use a iPhone 13 Pro Max on Apple Music to use high res ? Is there dacs with lighting adapters?
Random question: when I’m playing music through my MacBook’s speakers, will that audio playing be lossless/ hi-res lossless or the default AAC? Same question for the iPhone.
Does the same procedure apply to the Tidal app on iPhone and using an external dac?
When I look at Apple Music in settings on my iPad 9th gen I do not see all those settings? I am not signed in yet. Do I need to be signed in?
Do you have a video of how to get lossless music from Apple or any other provider source, for that matter, through my Denon AV receiver, which has its own DACs? I would like to utilize some very high quality speakers I recently purchased.
Sir, so what do you suggest to me to download on Apple Music?
Im using Airpods Pro 2nd gen. Os it better to download the AAC files
Thanks for clarify, a new subscriber here
Welcome Ramiro, thanks for watching!
Then we have to set max sample rate in macbook? So it will work in all cases?
This was really helpful information. Can an Earmen Sparrow connect with an iPhone, iPad and/or Mac?
Can you somehow connect that DAC to a 2022 Dolby Atmos soundbar? For example the Samsung HW-Q990B. Really curious on this one.
I also use Apple TV, airplaying onto Auralic Mini… onto my HiFi… I get max 24/48… well at least hope so :-) It is neat to have GUI of aTV on my television…
Can you use one of those amps with a vintage stereo? Like a old Marantz or Pioneer stereo receiver?
A video on your review on Dolby Amos would be nice. Awesome video. Thanks
Atmos released music?
does the earpods with lightning connector can use lossless audio?
What dac are you using in this video? is the dac good?
Does ipad mini have this function? Because I never had ipad mini before. Planning to get one someday
can i stream lossless on windows pc? i cant see any information about bitrate on windows itunes
Hi ! Do you mind sending the link for the playlist that you tested? I just subscribed to Apple Music and I couldn't seem to find one.
nice!
How about headphones? Do we need to have a headphone that ranges above 40khz range in order to hear hi-res?
Help me please ! I listen 2 hours lossless and now it pause from time to time. I guess my ipad mini 4 has not enough cpu or ram to do it properly.
I deleted for leaving enough space, run only apple music, restart. Any advice ?
Thank you all !
which external dac is suitable for iphone?

can you hear losless over wifi? for example with sonos?
I have bluesound soundbar wifi connected to iPad , is this going to be ok
can i play lossless audio by transfering lossless audio file from my laptop? or i just can play from apple music library? as a newbie i hope you will answer❤️
Man I can hug you! I was messing around with my BTR5 and Apple Music trying to
Figure out all this and now I know how. Btw, I also noticed the headphone matters a lot. I used multiple IEM balanced hardly noticed much of a difference, then I tied my master dynamic 40s and wow I got lost in lossless lol
Thank you very much. If not i would be wasting data over hi-res songs that my airpod does not support
Level up to unlimited dude
cel data, T Mobile etc, 10 Gb max a month?
Album is 1 Gb
Would this work with a fiio k5 pro dac/amp to my MacBook Air with Apple Music headphones are wired beyerdynamic dt990 pro 250 ohms
I find that Apple Music under Settings on my iPad does not have audio quality prompt. Other people are experiencing this as well. What am I doing wrong?
Im sort of frustrated because i got the dac and have all the cables and finally figured out my macbook is probably too old (2014) and when i do the music preferences it doesnt give me any sound quality options- its half of the stuff yours does
Thanks but why do you have to keep switching the setting in MIDI setup? Why can't you just leave it on the highest setting? I dont have a DAC for my iMac, but I just leave my audio set to 24 bit 48 and even the songs that are in lower quality still play fine. I dont have to switch it back to 41 or anything. I do get a very different sound with the Atmos on vs off. Cant decide which I like more. Its off for now.
why i dont get the losless text at the bottom of the title song that im currently play, even tho i already turn it on like on this video
can I use sony xm4 earbuds to get this features?
Saw Lucy Dacus on the thumbnail and came straight in!
I’m going to use Apple Music with my Fiio M6 DAP and wired Sony XM4s 👍
I saw Lucy’s Historian record in the thumbnail and now I’m watching. I only use lossless on my Apple TV through a Denon receiver, but it’s limited to ALAC up to 24-bit/48kHz.
Great album 👍🏾
You need to update the Airplay 2 app in the receiver, you can't do Atmos or 192 24b over HDMi that way! SPdiv?
With the Vox Player it's works just fine
I have a USB-C dac capable of 24bit 384khz. Why is the ipad stuck at 48khz?
I've been chrome casting Apple music to my Xiaomi android tv box from my android phone. Magic!!
I like it on hi res audio. I have Sony Mobile ES speakers in my car that takes advantage of it
Hi I have updated ios to 14.6 but I don’t see the audio quality settings was you already a apple music subscriber to see these settings ? that is do I need to subscribe to see these settings I want to do the free trial but only when I can use the settings to get hi res thank you a great video.
Interesting, 24- bit / 44,1 with my Sony wireless. Can that be correct ?
My ipad and iphone ae running ios 14.6. But I dont see the Dolby Atmos or the Lossless Audio options in the settings. A lot of people have complained about this. What can be the reason? Please let me know. A lot of people here think that this is something that Apple have innovated. But it is not so. Dolby Atmos is already running in Samsung phones for a quite some time. My S 20 FE had it ever since it was launched.
Hi, thanks for the great vids! I've seen a lot of vids saying that using a computer as a streamer introduces a lot of noise to the digital out signal, which apparently seriously compromises the sound quality. Do you have any opinions as to which of an iPad, iPhone, iMac or Mac Mini will give the best, cleanest digital signal to an external DAC. I realise that this probably makes little difference when listening through headphones, but I am connecting my DAC to an 80 watt amp to drive floor-standing speakers.
I'm not sure about that. If you are using an external DAC, the computer should simply be streaming the digital data of the song, unadulterated from the servers holding the stored copy of the song, and all the processing happens in the DAC. Noise should only be an issue once the signal switches over to the analogue form, i.e. within the DAC. If you used the computer's built-in internal DAC, THEN noise from the other computer's components can be an issue. Please correct me anyone if I am mistaken in saying this.
I believe what you are referring to is noisy power over the usb port, where noise in the power is affecting the analog output within the dac after converted.
The digital signal between the computer and the dac itself is not affected.
Some usb powered dacs have filtering on the power to clean it up, or isolate it.
If affected, you can also try plugging into a different usb port.
This is a fantastic video. I am a newbie and trying to learn more about Apple Music with my iPhone 13 and sound quality. I mostly use my PowerBeats Pro, which I know are capable of Spatial Audio and I also use the standard Apple Earbuds with the lightning connector.
From what I can tell and correct me if I am wrong, with the standard Earbuds from Apple, the best quality sound I can hear is lossless. If songs are available in hi-res, I still cannot enjoy that sound quality with the earbuds. I think the same goes for the PowerBeats Pro, yes? 🤔
Yes, the earbuds DAC will do up to 24bit/48KHz but the Powerbeats pro will only work via aac code so you are not getting lossless via Bluetooth.
@@AudioFixation Based on this video I went searching for accessories and I found my Belkin 3.5mm iPhone Aux Adapter
Features a DAC so I'll try the AUX port with my Apple earbuds and check out the audio quality.
Thanks for clearing up the Bluetooth situation. Loud n clear-No bluetooth is going to help obtain lossless sound
I think you can do this over Bluetooth with ldac codec on Android. . . .
@@AudioFixation If I connect Apple EarPods (wired) via 3.5mm jack on mac will they give me hi-res lossless or just lossless or Apple EarPods are limited to 48kHz?
If I’m going to listen on my ipad/iphone then I want to output it on an av receiver with the option high-lossless audio, how will I do this? Thanks.
You need a connector, and a hi-res capable DAC such as the BTR5 shown in the video.
Using a set of non apple bluetooth in ear, and loaded both lossless and non-lossless of the same album and it is very noticeable the difference regardless of the fact its not lossless any longer as it comes out of the bluetooth in ear's..... apples been working some magic.... because it's even different when comparing it to TIDAL (apples better) no idea why
How to connect btr5 with iphone, i am uaing apple charging cable but its not working
I switched from deezer to apple music but it seems the audio quality much worse than deezer to me. it sounds muffled and low volume. is it just happens on android? ı have macbook pro too and it sound bit better but not too much. in deezer, it sounds much brighter and clearer but apple lossles is (if its real) says higher quality but sounds muffled and lower volume when ı'm listening music. is there a way to fix that problem or am ı doing something wrong?
Wonder how much money would have made if you had an affiliate marketing link for that external DAC
how can I listen lossless on my hifi system? how do i have to connect my i phone / i pad ??
My Yamaha ATMOS Amp app plays them as Digital Airplay2, unable to find if it's 192k 24?
If it's High Res, Yamaha will play it!
What a bath of cold water and a reality check. Wow! thank you for that , so it s all a lot of marketing jibbers and not so much the real stuff. Could you please do an update on the new updates and IOS 15/ Monterey / situation I bought rather expensive Airpod Max , hope to get Max out of it eventually . ☺️
You can’t out of any AirPods. It’s a technology limitation. You need to go wired.
is anybody know why in my Music setting there is no DOLBY option and others like ij the video?
mine is iphone 11 pro max and have had ios 16.2
nice detail video and info
can you make video on apple music on android same type of video content
I have latest IOS 14.6 on Ipad4 but no lossless option.
Wow thanks. This answer my question, because I am planning to buy the Fiio BTR5 for my IPad pro 2020. It's sad that Apple music on my LG V50 doesn't have lossless and I am not sure when or if they will update it.
Apple TV with Dolby Atmos music played through an Atmos capable sound system is god tier
what did you meant, you need HDMi 2.1 to support it!
Can AptX Support Lossless?
So if I have my external DAC connected to my Mac and set output to e.g., 768 kHz/32 bit on the Audio MIDI setup, can I rest assured that I'll always be getting the best possible output from Apple Music, or do I have to adjust the MIDI setup on a song-by-song basis?
If you do that, it will just upsample everything to that frequency, meaning you won’t be getting bit perfect output.
@@AudioFixation this is not affected by MIDI at all.
Cubase?
Great information! Are you on an Intel or M1 Mac? Just wondering if there would be a difference in the OS builds.
Hardware, no. Just make sure you have the latest Big Sur update.
What is the name of the DAC he uses in this video?
Thanks for the great work!! Will the AudioQuest Dragonfly Cobalt function like the FiiO external DAC you use to upsample from Apple Music?? I'm using a MBP and wondering if Spotify v Tidal v Apple Music for great quality music??
Yes, the mac irritatingly doesn’t switch sample rates automatically regardless of whatever dac you are using
It's on Android now. I've been using it on my S21 ultra with the Sony xm4. Funny thing is I've been having Dolby Atmos before Apple supported it on the music app so the quality difference hasn't been as noticeable as it would be for an apple device.
Spatial audio is a special type of Dolby atmos. Search ''spatial audio CNET'' and ''lewlaterclips spatial audio''
Are you using xm4 connected wired in a dac on your S21U? Because it’ll not support ho res lossless via Bluetooth I suppose. Do tell about your setup. I have the same s21U and xm4 and want to enjoy hi res apple music using BTR5.
With this logic, does that mean if I attach a dongle from my iPhone to an aux chord, then straight into my Edifier speakers, would I get lossless audio? I’m trying to find a way to use those speakers to take advantage of Apple Music’s new upgrades
I think you’ll need a DAC in between the phone and your speakers to get the most out of it.
You always give great audio advice! The thing I dont understand is, they say listening to hi res or even lossless eats up alot of your data. The thing is when im walking I listen to my music offline. So how can lossless or hi res eat up data? Unless you can only stream lossless through wifi? If that makes sense?
It will only use data if you’re streaming from your data plan. No issues if you’re streaming via wifi or listening to local media (downloaded) while offline.
